I'm looking at buying a replacement set of knives for my DW734 planer. Currently, I have DeWalt knifes installed. On the 1st use, I planed hard maple and now I have a few chips. Are the Infinity Replacement knives superior to the OEM knives? OEM are $53.33 @ HD. The Infinity knives are $74.90. Danl .

I bought this combo at a pawn shop. I thought I'd try the plunger out on the poker table. It's difficult to get in the router in the plunger base. Is his normal for his model?

If this thread needs to be relocated by the powers that be, no problemo. I seem to remember Gene having a post on replacing the stock knives, on a DeWalt 735 planer, with the Byrd Shelix/Helix head. I have a 735, it’s never been plugged in. My meager WWing talents are improving to the point where I am considering trying some projects that involve using a planer. My shop is in the basement of our townhouse. The noise from the SS DC, Jet air filter, and router/table saw/whatever tool I’m using has driven the Missus to have to retreat to the upstairs on occasion. From what I’ve read the only negative to the Byrd upgrade is paying for it, a small adjustment to the depth of …

This last summer there was a discusion on another forum of making diamond wheels for the WorkSharp. Bill @Schnewj did a lot of research and cost analysis on making diamond wheels for the WorkSharp Sharpening System. From that discussion I was able to get the sources for the materials thru Bills research. So I set out to make a set of diamond wheels. The idea behind all this was to make some MDF wheels and buy some magnetic sign material 6"discs with PSA backing. Then drill a hole in the discs and peel the cover off and stick them o the MDF wheels. He also found a source in Los Angeles that sold lapidary steel diamond discs for the lapidary trade that were 6" in diame…

I have had three Grizzly tools and have had problems with all of them. Yesterday, I was trying to lower the table on the drill press and the crank handle slipped. No problem, it's held in by a set screw. A metric one, of course because they apparently got a deal on them somewhere. Found the right hex wrench and just started to turn it. Pop. Case broke. Well, it's a plastic lever surrounding a steel (non-metric 1/2" diameter) collar. OK, maybe the steel collar will hold it. Set screw moves in and out just fine, but not when the collar is on the shaft. Apparently, it's stripped inside. I am not going to call Grizzly and get a $14 part and $18 shi…

Did you know that sanders bite? While sanding cutting boards for Christmas sales with my ROS with 220 grit paper on it, the cord got stuck on the edge of my work bench. So I gave it a good tug and it came loose much easier than I anticipated so the sander ended up hitting my left hand cutting it deeply in the soft flesh between my thumb and index finger. Good thing I was using 220 grit instead of 80 grit. So after bleeding all over the garage floor getting to the paper towels, I got the bleeding under control and then wrapped it up and headed to the clinic to get it sewed up and now I got 6 lovely stitches. So I took the rest of the day off from working in the garage and …

Some time back I had asked about a digital protractor to compliment the Wixey. Well, the other day I was at Lowes and happened to see this hanging on the rack. Does anyone have one? Does it work as advertised? The Wixey took my woodworking up a couple of notches. I could see this doing the same...

I came across this promo for the new Nova 18" drill press and I thought you guys might be interested. I don't know anything about the quality or longevity, but it is on par, cost wise, with similar presses and eliminates the need to change pulley belts and guess at the correct speeds.

Video is way too long, but it looks like we can put down all the tools, eliminate the craftsmanship of risk and introduce the craftsmanship of certainty. Sell all your tools, become a programmer, start it up, go have a coffee and donut, come back and do some sanding. http://www.diysmartsaw.com/?tid=main_med_adw_diysmart&gclid=COn4wcf57tECFdcUgQodJgYKCg

Anybody bought one of these kits? If so, would you recommend it, and how much technology would I need to get it into operation? Thanks!

I don't know if this should be here in Tools, Research, etc., so please move it if there's a better spot. In making the guitar bridges I use my spindle sander to sand the wings on each end of the bridge. But all I have are 80 and 100 grit sleeves so I was all set to order some finer grit sleeves when it crossed my mind that I should just make some. I didn't check to see if there are dozens of 'how-to' videos on this but rather decided to just use what I had on hand and go for it. Here are the completed sleeves yet to be unwrapped - And here's the full video on making these - Enjoy! David

I have a DJ-20 that has damage due to my brainless action. I need to replace the table lid or machine it flat again but is is out of stock every place I check. It got bent up when a hard object got ejected. If the lid is bent up I hope I can just machine it flat. But how is the best way to go about this? Remove it from the Jointer or try to file then sand in place? Does anyone have a DJ20 with the Table lid that is now a parts pile. Any and all help wold be appreciated. 1330102 Table Lid Substituted - 20004998 - B&D Macao-KINGCRAFT MACH $31.92 Out of Stock

I have a TP but had to have all the knives removed and sharpened. I went to insert the knives and had no idea how high above the spindle that it sits in it should be. The proper tool was never given to me. So I ordered it. The proper tool has metal to metal contact. Which is not good and the user Utube mentioned to be very careful not to chip the new knife. She showed the springs have to be controlled thru their entire travel. I am wondering if I put a piece of tape on the tool would the tape thickness change the height by too much? But the tape would cushion the metal. Also the cylinder has both jack screws and springs?? I am thinking of …

OK, if you are a roofer or plumber working in obscure places without power, sure. But does the world's DIYer really need all these cordless tools -- routers, table saws, chain saws, jig saws, recip saws? What does a new 32V battery replacement cost? And what happens when it gives out two cuts before you are done? I have a drill-driver because I'm often working in someone's home and don't want to have to string extension cords all over the place. And most of the time I'm driving screws that don't work all that well with a corded drill. But in the shop, I'm rarely more than 6' from an outlet. A number of years ago, there was a trim carpenter …
