Do you need a real man's toolbox?

Featured Replies

There are so many quality tools out there. Most people don't even know that they exist(ed) if they aren't serious hand tool users. S&K, Proto, Thoresen, et.al., all good tools, but not generally recognized to the average person like Snap-On, MAC, and yes, Craftsman.

I used to run across odds and ends at garage sales all of the time. Very good to excellent hand tools for stealing prices. I got to the point that I just ignored them...you only need so many 7/16 open end wrenches, or incomplete 1/4" or 3/8" socket sets.

Over the years I've taught several neighborhood kids basic tools skills, that, their fathers were unable or unwilling to teach. When they complain about not having the money to buy needed tools, I used to tell them to hit the neighborhood yard sales. With a little patience and some "milk money" they could put a basic toolbox together. Screw drivers, wrenches, sockets. It may have been a monster mash, but it was a usable collection of tools.
