January 11, 20197 yr Author Todays progress report. I didn't really get anything done on the PC case build today, but have figured a way to use the crystal lamp indicators and the modified lamp finial on the Desk/Cabinet build so they will get used after all. My neighbor with the Antique Mall finally took a look at what I'm building out of all of this stuff, and he said: "This is too cool. It looks like something that belongs in a Jules Verne novel" So that got me to thinking. I might just name this build "The Nautilus"

January 12, 20197 yr Coming along nicely, looking forward to seeing the final product. Took some inspiration from your work here and decided to go with a hammered metal finish for the electrical box and conduit. Still looking for a small gear to put on my handwheel but I have time at the rate of progress thus far.
January 15, 20197 yr Author Todays progress report. Today I started doing some things with the pile of brass I've been accumulating. Being that this is not one of those light up keyboards, I decided the keyboard needs a proper lamp. The cruddy desk lamp to the right of the pile gave up its arms for this project. They are the only parts of the lamp that are solid brass. The rest was brass plated steel that had some rusting. The original lamp shade was a bit big, and rusting so I made a new one that will have LEDs powered by the PC. These are the parts I used to make the new lamp shade. I used two of these assembled onto an all thread lamp pipe. I then drilled a mounting, and wiring hole into the front top edge of the PC case. I drilled two holes for the arms as per the original shade mounting method. Here are a couple of views of the lamp being mounted. And here is a view of the lamp over the keyboard/trackball tray. I still have to drill the light emitting holes, and wire the lamp along with polishing the brass, but I think it looks pretty good. I also did a little work on the Desk/Cabinet, and will post that progress on that Topic/Post. That's all on the PC build for today. Until later. Edited January 15, 20197 yr by Larry Buskirk

January 15, 20197 yr Popular Post That is so awesome!!! I remember that Maximum PC used to have section for reader’s custom builds. This would sure qualify

January 16, 20197 yr Author Popular Post Todays project update. About all I got done on the PC part of the build was to figure out the basic assembly procedure for making up the speakers. I have to find a matching pair of standoffs, but other than that here's a peak at what they will look like. I did get some more done on the Desk/Cabinet build and will shortly be posting that progress in that Topic/Post. Until next time.

January 18, 20197 yr Author Yesterday, and todays progress report. About all I got done on the PC build was to add a pair of USB ports inside the case for the Bluetooth receiver for the keyboard and trackball. Yesterday was our bulk pickup day so I went scrounging, and got some more goodies from that and out of my storage. I'll be posting more in the Desk/Cabinet build Topic. So until later.

February 14, 20197 yr Author Since I'll be using my old (Windows 98 Days) Cambridge SoundWorks Desktop Theatre 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System, I'll need a rear channel output for connecting them to the PC. The MSI B450M PRO-M2 motherboard uses the front panel headphone jack for the rear channel output. I don't want to have a cable constantly sticking out the front of the case. But I do want the availability of the headphone jack. So, I decided to add a rear jack that ties to the front headphone jack. Since these jacks have a switch incorporated into them that signals the motherboard that something is plugged in so the motherboard can decide whether to cut out the speaker system or not, just wiring in another jack just wouldn't do the job. So here's a look at what I came up with. I used a DPST Sub-Mini toggle switch to switch between the jacks. Which will be located in the second hole from the left. Here is a look at the switch wired into the circuit. The rear jack came out of the Compaq donor case, and is mounted to a rear expansion slot plate. I'll be adding more to this slot plate for the LED lighting, etc.. Now I have the availability of both front, and rear jacks that will allow me to leave the rear channel plugged in, and also be able to use the front headphone jack. Today, I'll be working on making up some covers for various components inside the case. I'll be making these out of a piece of Copper sheet, and Copper pipe. So until later.
