I'm in need of a new belt for my Shopsmith sander and headed to Menards tomorrow. I don't know much about these brands other than they have a wide price difference. Any experience or pro/con recommendations, or shop somewhere else? https://www.menards.com/main/search.html?search=6+x+48+sanding+belt

First, hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving. I have been looking for a used dust collector. Have hit several estate sales and garage sales that looked hopeful, so far found one, way to big for my small shop and turned out it was already sold. Our town has this Facebook sight that is for free, just come and get it, kicker being you cannot resale. So, Monday I am checking the sight out and low and behold, a free dust collector, looks like right size. Got to his house and its a general machinery (harbor freight) 2 hp collector, canvas filter but came with 55 gal drum. Got it home, cleaned up a little and it works......Fun comes in fitting into the shop. If I keep…

I wanted to find a tap to directly thread turning blocks onto my lathe. I discovered this company Beall Tools https://www.facebook.com/jjbeallwoodworking/ and bought a 1 1/4- 8 spindle tap through Lee Valley. I have not used it yet however the quality of the tool is superb and well worth the $42.00 that included the tool shipping and tax from Lee Valley. Waiting on a 1 1/8 Forstner bit to bore for the tap. If you are so inclined this tool really is great quality can't wait to use it. calabrese55

Hello All! As I mentioned a little while back, I'm getting ready to move. I've decided to break down as many tools as I can to fit things in the truck. This leads me to my larger jointer. I bought it for $50 knowing it needed some serious restoration work, rust removal mainly. So here are my questions: 1. Should I remove the main body from the stand and leave that as is? The stand will get broken down no matter what. 2. Should I remove the tables from the main body as well? 3. Just how much disassembly is recommended considering the restoration it will need when I arrive at my destination? I've attached the owners manual and parts diagram…

Started off with a fast trip over to Tucson to pick up a camera for the day job. I could delegate that kind of task, but I lived there for so long that I really enjoy trips back even when they are rushed. On the way a friend called back, one I hadn't seen since 2018 or so. He moved his shop just before the pandemic and I kind of lost touch since I didn't know where to just swing by and waste time with him. On this trip it worked out well, I got my stuff done by 3:30 and had a couple hours to go over and visit his new place. Best part is he gave me a 5 hp 230V motor from a large Grizzly jointer that he'd put a 3 phase motor on - his shop is all 3 phase. I …

Ok super sleuths, I need a part for my ancient Delta 34-183 tenoning jig. The tri ball handle that drives the clamp assembly has striped out at the set screw and it won’t stay tight. This happened a couple of years ago and I red riled and tapped the hole on the other side. The shaft hole is probably supposed to be 3/8” but is now .400. I’ve tried McMaster Carr to no avail. Any ideas before I spring for a new one?

Hi everyone I have a Laguna 1.5 HP Dust Cyclone (MCYC1.5MOBMC-110V-0145)dust collector. There’s no number on the filter and the manual doesn’t tell me anything about it either. Laguna doesn’t sell this model anymore. Just trying to find a replacement filter for it. The filter is 23” tall, 15” wide, , has 6” dust hose port on top , and bottom is open for clear collection bag . If anyone has an idea where to locate one I’d appreciate the help. Thanks

I see more and more of these coming on the market. I have a couple of "Clamp & Guides" and some shop-built guides, but wonder how they're all working. Do any of you have one you like (or dislike). I'm thinking we might use one of these at the furniture bank for cutting out melamine sheet goods. There's one size that's too big for the table saw we have. Repeatability of cuts would be a BIG help as we do about 68 table tops at a session but only 3 different sizes. Would be nice not to have to measure each one (measure once, cut 24 times). Fe$tool is probably out of the question due to cost. But we'd need to get a circular saw to go with one of…

I have an old Delta 40-560 scroll saw. The air diaphragm, or bellows, that generates the air flow to keep the cut line free of dust is shot. I can't find a replacement for this part anywhere. I emailed Delta, but they don't have a replacement. They recommended I check with another company that specializes in obsolete and discontinued parts, but I struck out there. So here is my question. You know the flex seal product, where the pitch man sticks a patch on a leaking 5 gal bucket of water, or cuts a boat in half and then fixes it with the tape version of this product? Would that fix the bellows on my scroll saw? I'm thinking of a quick dip in a can of this stuff, o…

I have a morse and taper shaft on my drill press that is constantly falling out. Especially when I need it to cut mortise. Is it misalignment in my mortise attachments that are causing the M&T to slip out? I do not not think so. But then why won't it stay in. I will google it but you gents are my favorites with multiple options.

I'm restoring an old Craftsman lathe and I have a few questions about lubing the motor. It's a Craftsman model # 113.12790 electric motor (see the first picture for details from the spec plate). There are two oil ports, one on each end. I lubed the first one and all seemed fine. I then lubed the second port and discovered oil leaking out. I found a grainy picture of the parts diagram on Sears Parts Direct (second picture). However, I'm not sure what part to replace to stop the leak. Pictures 3 and 4 are of the leaking end. Does anyone know how to prevent this oil leak? I'm at a standstill with this project until I can reassemble the motor.

I'm trying to get all of my machines to connect to my DC system, using fittings I already have. For my router table, I have a fitting that's probably within 1/32" of sliding onto the fence port. The fence port is plenty thick and should give me enough room to shave it down without worry. The question is, how do I shave it down evenly in a consistent manner? The other option is to shave down the inside of the fitting itself. Anyone have any ideas about how to go about doing this? Router table port: Fitting:

Continuing to set up my new small shop. I previously had two table saws with a router extension wings and I always liked the idea. Not wanting to spend $$, I found this plan... https://www.woodworkersjournal.com/make-router-table-extension-table-saw/ I did modify it in a couple of small ways - I had no laminate scraps (you always need whatever you recently discarded), so I used some 1/4" ply with several coats of poly. And I already had the DC set up with a 4" hose, so I just used that size connector (powertec on Amazon.) Anyway, here's the result...

Hello gents. I keep meaning to get back on here and see what's being talked about — found something the other day and thought I'd post it here. (Do tell me if there's a better section/sub-forum here for this sort of thing.) Something I've been hoping to unearth for a long time. Practical demonstration wrapped in pure nostalgia. Hope you guys enjoy watching it as much as I do. Here's the notes I wrote over on YouTube: ... and I can't decide what's cooler — that "DeWalt Custom Cut Lumber" shop coat, or the teardrop RAS automobile trailer at the end. — David

After many years of having power saws, I'm finally getting around to cleaning the blades. To say this was overdue would be the understatement of the year. I looked at many options. Multiple people suggested a 5 gal. bucket lid and a heavy degreaser. Unfortunately, all of the bucket lids I looked at had slots in the sides of the lid. None of them appeared to be able to hold a cleaning solution. I then looked at the giant collapsible rubber cleaning tray by Wood River. It's around $40 once you include shipping. Finally, was the giant collapsible rubber cleaning tray from Sili. Amazon was out of stock, so I did a search to see if it was available anywhere else. Peachtree Woo…

I have a GE motor that was on a Saw Smith RAS built in 1959/1960. I've taken apart the motor housing to clean and service it. What type of grease should I use for the motor shaft bearing and at the other end of the housing? Thanks in advance.
