December 14, 20241 yr Popular Post Started off with a fast trip over to Tucson to pick up a camera for the day job. I could delegate that kind of task, but I lived there for so long that I really enjoy trips back even when they are rushed. On the way a friend called back, one I hadn't seen since 2018 or so. He moved his shop just before the pandemic and I kind of lost touch since I didn't know where to just swing by and waste time with him. On this trip it worked out well, I got my stuff done by 3:30 and had a couple hours to go over and visit his new place. Best part is he gave me a 5 hp 230V motor from a large Grizzly jointer that he'd put a 3 phase motor on - his shop is all 3 phase. I have a PM160 that needs a 3 hp 3 phase motor replaced before I can use it. Don't mind going up in size at all. While a Baldor would have been nice, I'm not going to look a gift import motor in the mouth! The most amusing part of the visit was to see an 18" Powermatic planer stashed on a shelf about 12' off the ground. At a guess, that's about 2500 lb of iron. Nice to have a forklift and stout shelving around! Once I got back home the day job turned super busy and stupid unfortunately. Hoping for a slow week next week before the holidays so I can get some shop time in around that pesky 40 hour chunk dedicated to paying the bills!
December 14, 20241 yr Popular Post Hey John, next time you're planning a trip over this way, give me a holler. we could meet for coffee.
December 14, 20241 yr Author Popular Post I was hoping to do that this time around Gene, but it ended up being a really quick overnight trip. Had to get back over here for the busy and stupid stuff that was starting up. Being on hand to manage receipt and storage of 2 of the 3 large deliveries made things a bit less stupid (the first one I missed because it was far earlier than expected and it was not handled well). I'm going to try to connect with you next time I'm over there, maybe in March or April. I've promised my girlfriend a stay at the Arizona Inn, and that seems like a good time to deliver on the promise.

Glad the trip went well and you were able to reconnect with your friend. As for the day job stuff; necessary life experience but trust me, retirement goes way too fast and has it's fair share of challenges too. Doesn't pay as well either but the donuts sure taste better.
