With what little time I've had to screw around in the shop I was practicing on this. This isn't the nice job the rest of you do, but someday I'll get better. Not seen in the pic is the split down the back of the hat from a hole that was drilled a little off center in the piece of scrap I used. Anyway, the body is a piece of scrap peach and the hat is cherry, both from my supply of "smokker" wood. The nose and ball on the cap are bloodwood...which I found to be an extremely hard wood on the lathe. But the hardest part, and maybe what i did worse, was getting the beard in place...my video didn't talk much about that part. So, here's my first...I hope to do some more.

This one took a while. I have never tried cutting precision angles, gluing, clamping& turning. Angles came out good & I learned alot. Next time I will change dimensions for better sizing. If there is a next time

Okay so I have a MINOR problem. When I origionally went to mount the face plate to the blood wood blank. Welp I ran into a bit of a problem. The screws got stuck the wood is so dense. I had to unscrew three of them using a set of vice grips. Talk about a pain. The problem being one of the screws is still stuck in the blank it decided to break off just below the surface of the blank. I chipped it out a little bit with a hand chisel so I could see the broken screw. Either way I'm going to start on the outsides of the bowl and get it to shape. What I am trying to figure out now is how the heck to get the screw out of there. Any suggestions on marking the spot? Either way I'm not letting this lovely piece of bloodwood go to waste. I've already got it rounded out and tenon cut.

I made a new bowl. I am pretty sure the lighter wood is Maple and the rings are Cedar and Bloodwood. It is around 7 inches in diameter. I sanded it to 800 and finished it with beeswax.
