April 11Apr 11 Author Almost there..Hitting against something on the runners...need to pull out the upper 2 drawers to fix..Lay out work..To attach a pair of hinges..The knob? Instead of using the POS screw that came with it, I drilled it for a 1/8" dowel, and glued it in place..Waiting on a return of the Roto-rooter guy..Until he gets done back there..Project on "Pause" for today..

April 17Apr 17 Author Popular Post Gaposis has been planed away..Clamp? Because both bread board ends were installed..Edge of the top wanted to curl up a bit...so..Nice, when I can use a plane Left-handed..Need to get 2 doors hung up in the case...and see IF I can figure these latches out...Stay tuned..
April 17Apr 17 Author Popular Post Essential Tremors + cordless drill trying to drive 1 screw...while the "good hand" is holding the door in place....lotta fight'n going on..But...Started at the top..1 screw installed...next was at the bottom of the bottom hinge...fine tune the door so it will fit into the opening...with a plane or 2...Tools for today... still need to install the 2 middle screws....too many phone calls going on...still waiting on a Plumber to show up...Stay tuned..
April 18Apr 18 Author Plumbers finally showed up....all the drains in the house now work....free and clear...will need to let the shop floor dry a day...Stay tuned..
April 20Apr 20 Author Popular Post Rest of the 4 screws was installed....then a sliding latch...That needed a small, shallow, short Mortise for the sliding bar to slide into, past a "D" ring like strike plate..Under that sliding bar, are 2 countersunk screw holes...Drawer #3? Still a work in Progress ( if any)..Still hitting something clear in the back about 1/2" from being fully closed up....hmmmStay tuned..
April 23Apr 23 Author Popular Post Alrighty then....this is to be a Bench for the shop...as the Boss wants to keep the original one..so.Did some puttering around, today..Rotated the top 180...so the actual "Front Edge" was where it is supposed to be....then did not like all that overhang....marked a line for the circular saw to try to follow...barely..Excess is now on the saw-dusty floor...Drawer #3? While the top was off standing around, I pulled the top 2 drawers out a bit, to see what was holding #3 out...turned out it was the depth stop being too fat. Mallet and a chisel to slim it back a bit..2 test fits, and a bit more with the chisel....Drawer now shuts all the way like the other 2...Next on the schedule? install the other door, attach the top to the case..and sand everything to 220 grit....then, mix up a fresh batch of Witch's Brew Stain...and see how this things turns out. Stay tuned..
April 23Apr 23 Popular Post That looks great Bandit. Maybe the Mrs. will reconsider after the finish is applied.
April 25Apr 25 I believe I’d find a friend or family member that wants a nice piece of furniture before I’d use it as a work bench. Way to nice for that.
April 29Apr 29 The wood on this is gorgeous. I think that top is going to be screaming nice.Good job, Lefty. 😃Glad you seem to be on the mend.
April 30Apr 30 Author Popular Post 1st task this morning..attach the top to the case, using these..Supposed to go up through the slotted holes in each corner brace.....in theory...first 2 went right in ( Bad Sign?) front one of the next 2 ..needed a hole drilled..twice, first one was too deep...Did not even try for the back one...Figured since there already is a screw in the center of the top..should be enough...With the top "secured", ran an 80 grit belt sander all over the top..Still had a few high spots, here and there..so.."We have ways..." then sanded the entire top to 220.....and mixed the stain up..And wiped it down...This end doesn't look too bad..But, there is this black streak at the other end....Spalted Sap Wood...good thing my 12" planer will be sitting here...Then, since the Left door was basically done fitted..( and the can of stain and the brush were still handy...and another rag)Brush on...wipe off, both faces of the door were stained and wiped down..Need to do a final fit up of the 3 drawers, and get that area stained...and see about the other end, and that door..Stay tuned..
