The knob? Instead of using the POS screw that came with it, I drilled it for a 1/8" dowel, and glued it in place..

  • Looks like a sideboard to me. Though usually the antique ones of years past circa 1780 -1880 had mirrors on it and little shelves off the mirrors. Like this:

Hinges are on both doors, still need to install them into the case...but, for now..?

Laundry Room, Top Fitting, towel cover .jpg

Towel to try to keep things from falling into the drawer...

This thing..

Laundry Wednesday, top panel waiting .jpg

needs those c clamps removed and the cauls..

Lay the panel down on top of the case...

Laundry Room, Top Fitting, a little wide .jpg

The Cauls?

Laundry Room, Top Fitting, ex-cauls .jpg

Needed cut to length..and...

Laundry Room, Top Fitting, needs ripped .jpg

The splits removed...Tried to decide on which face looked the best..

Laundry Room, top work 2, the underside .jpg

Hmmm...meh. flip over...

Laundry Room, top work 2, the good side .jpg

Hmm, I think I'll go with this one..

Both ends needed trimmed a bit...so..

Laundry Room, top work 2, cutting jig .jpg

Set up to allow the circular saw to do this..

Laundry Room, top work 2, sawn .jpg

Can't do this on my tablesaw...plank was 60" long, BTW

Both ends were done, then the matter of milling a tongue on each end..Still not able to use a hand plane THAT much...so

Laundry Room, top work 2, router set up .jpg

Self-guiding Harbor Freight router bit..set to 1/4" depth, cuts 1/2" wide...

1st cut of 4 needed..

Laundry Room, top work 2, 1st cut .jpg

Do both ends, then flip over, and do the ends again..

Laundry Room, top work 2, 4th cut .jpg

Which means I need to mill a couple of grooves...at least THAT I can do on the Tablesaw ...

Laundry Room, top work 2, grooves milled .jpg

Push stick was required, of course..

Dry fit?

Laundry Room, top work 2, dry fit .jpg

Can fine tune this with a hand plane, later,,

Stay tuned..

Really getting close to the finish line; no pun intended; oh alright, pun intended😜

Clamp? Because both bread board ends were installed..

Laundry Room 16, top work, clamped up .jpg

Edge of the top wanted to curl up a bit...so..

Laundry Room 16, top work, taking the curl off .jpg

Nice, when I can use a plane Left-handed..

Need to get 2 doors hung up in the case...and see IF I can figure these latches out...

Stay tuned..

Looking good! 👍

Essential Tremors + cordless drill trying to drive 1 screw...while the "good hand" is holding the door in place....lotta fight'n going on..

But...

Laundry Room 17, hanging up, Left door done .jpg

Started at the top..1 screw installed...next was at the bottom of the bottom hinge...fine tune the door so it will fit into the opening...with a plane or 2...

Laundry Room 17, hanging up, toys in use .jpg

Tools for today... still need to install the 2 middle screws....too many phone calls going on...still waiting on a Plumber to show up...

Stay tuned..

Plumbers finally showed up....all the drains in the house now work....free and clear...will need to let the shop floor dry a day...

Stay tuned..

Rest of the 4 screws was installed....then a sliding latch...

Laundry Room, APR 19, door latch done .jpg

That needed a small, shallow, short Mortise for the sliding bar to slide into, past a "D" ring like strike plate..

Laundry Room, APR 19, slider installed .jpg

Under that sliding bar, are 2 countersunk screw holes...

Drawer #3? Still a work in Progress ( if any)..

Laundry Room, APR 19, drawer adjustments .jpg

Still hitting something clear in the back about 1/2" from being fully closed up....hmmm

Stay tuned..

Alrighty then....this is to be a Bench for the shop...as the Boss wants to keep the original one..so.

Did some puttering around, today..

Laundry Room, APR 22, too wide .jpg

Rotated the top 180...so the actual "Front Edge" was where it is supposed to be....then did not like all that overhang....marked a line for the circular saw to try to follow...barely..

Laundry Room, APR 22, trimmed top .jpg

Excess is now on the saw-dusty floor...

Drawer #3? While the top was off standing around, I pulled the top 2 drawers out a bit, to see what was holding #3 out...turned out it was the depth stop being too fat. Mallet and a chisel to slim it back a bit..2 test fits, and a bit more with the chisel....

Laundry Room, APR 22, Drawer #3 works .jpg

Drawer now shuts all the way like the other 2...

Next on the schedule? install the other door, attach the top to the case..and sand everything to 220 grit....then, mix up a fresh batch of Witch's Brew Stain...and see how this things turns out.

Stay tuned..

That is a very nice looking piece!

That looks great Bandit. Maybe the Mrs. will reconsider after the finish is applied.

Well done Bandit.

Wow! Nice work!!

I believe I’d find a friend or family member that wants a nice piece of furniture before I’d use it as a work bench. Way to nice for that.

Test of Witch's Brew...

Looks good to me!

The wood on this is gorgeous. I think that top is going to be screaming nice.

Good job, Lefty. 😃

Glad you seem to be on the mend.

1st task this morning..attach the top to the case, using these..

Laundry 29, screws for the top .jpg

Supposed to go up through the slotted holes in each corner brace.....in theory...first 2 went right in ( Bad Sign?) front one of the next 2 ..needed a hole drilled..twice, first one was too deep...Did not even try for the back one...Figured since there already is a screw in the center of the top..should be enough...

With the top "secured", ran an 80 grit belt sander all over the top..

Laundry 29, beltsanded to 80 grit .jpg

Still had a few high spots, here and there..so..

Laundry 29, taking out high spots .jpg

"We have ways..." then sanded the entire top to 220.....and mixed the stain up..

Laundry 29, Stained, top is stained .jpg

And wiped it down...This end doesn't look too bad..

Laundry 29, Stained, left end stained .jpg

But, there is this black streak at the other end....

Laundry 29, Stained, Sap wood .jpg

Spalted Sap Wood...good thing my 12" planer will be sitting here...

Then, since the Left door was basically done fitted..( and the can of stain and the brush were still handy...and another rag)

Laundry 29, Stained, left door stained .jpg

Brush on...wipe off, both faces of the door were stained and wiped down..

Need to do a final fit up of the 3 drawers, and get that area stained...and see about the other end, and that door..

Stay tuned..cowboypistol1
