  • Looks like a sideboard to me. Though usually the antique ones of years past circa 1780 -1880 had mirrors on it and little shelves off the mirrors. Like this:

Afraid the commute is too long! 😉

And I avoid snow as much as possible! Grew up in Michigan near Holland so experienced a lot of lake effect snow. We have snow in SW Missouri but usually does not stick around too long.

No longer have to wear that splint....button is no longer sewn to the thumbnail. down to just a few bandaids, and a list of things for the thumb to try to do...

Stopped at Menard's this afternoon and picked up a performax 8" stack dado blade set..carbide tipped..$60 + tax. The old Craftsman 6" was getting dull, and was just steel teeth...and was very hard to install...we'll see how this set does...

Decided to just take things easy, today...

Some days that's a good idea.

I bought that set a few years back. IIRC it was around $45-$48 then plus the 11% Rebate. Haven't used it a lot but I have been very happy with the results. I've used just one of the blades (1/8" thickness) numerous times to make 1/8" finger (box) joints; works great for that too.

@steven newman This is the Dado set I have. I got it when I worked at Lee Valley. I have never had a better Dado set.

The next time I set up my dado set I'm going to try using magnets on the back side of the blade to hold the set together while I tighten it up, because , yes, dado setups are a PIA.

I screwed up the arbor thread of my saw when I put the stack together the last time I set it up. I was able to find a tap and die set on Amazon to fix it.

I was using the HF set, I've cut 300, 3/4 x 1 dados in 3/4 plywood before even a hint of dulling, and they still cut very well.

Door #1 is in the clamps, and glued up..

MAR 20, drawer parts, door #1 glued up .jpg

Have already raised the panel for #2 Door, needed to trim the rails and stile to length for #2 Door..

MAR 20, drawer parts, door parts .jpg

Need to mill the corner joints, and the 3/8" wide grooves....then these will be assembled with their Raised Panel...

Most of the shoptime was spent cutting and ripping parts for the drawers..

MAR 20, drawer parts, sides, backs, and fronts .jpg

Couple of fronts ripped for width, all the drawer sides(6) cut to sizes needed for each drawer..and 3 backs..not sure IF I keep the back up on top of the stack..tis just a drawer back....however, I do have enough left over 1 x 8 to replace it..

MAR 20, drawer parts, leftover 1 x8 .jpg

1 x 8 x 44" Yes, the shop fan was running, set on high, in fact.

Thumb said it was quitting time, swept the shop floor, and called it a day...Fazoli's for Lunch awaits...

Stay tuned..cowboypistol1

Assembled, and ready for work..

I have a couple Grippers that I've used for many years. For me, the extra time it takes to set them up is worth the safety plus that time is helpful to not allow me to rush with a cut (the old if it feels wrong, find a better way). I also use Bench Dog push blocks for other cuts that are farther from the fence as they give me more control thanks to the pads/grip.

Guess I had better get this caught up...since I am currently cutting dovetails for the 3 drawers...

Changed out the 3/8" dado set-up to a 2 blade..1/4" set up

mar 22, groovy, tip-top .jpg

Easy way to change saw blades, on my tablesaw...

Grooves were needed..

MAR 22, groovy, grooves made .jpg

Both sides of each drawer, and the 3 drawer fronts...

MAR 22, groovy, test fitted .jpg

Grooves are to house the 1/4" plywood drawer bottom panels.

Next, involved a miter gauge, and the fence, with the fence getting adjusted once,,

MAR 22, groovy, 2 more sets .jpg

To mill a dado to house the Drawer's back...

Changed out the tablesaw blades again..to a single 40 toothed blade...had a few bevels to mill..

MAR 24, drawer work, beveled edges .jpg

To match the rest of the beveled fronts...

Then....drag out the Router Table..install a 1/2" dovetail bit in the collet....

MAR 24, drawer work, my work space .jpg

Set the fence a few times, and mark a couple Start/stop lines...first fence setting..

MAR 24, drawer work, table is set up .jpg

Mainly so the bit will align with that groove, and hide it...

MAR 24, drawer work, first dovetail sockets .jpg

I also used the same fence setting for the top sockets...12 cuts, so far..then adjust the fence away from the bit, and work towards the center of each drawer front...

MAR 24, drawer work, sockets done did .jpg

Then, it is a matter of stand the front up, trace around each "pin"..

MAR 25, dovetail work, middle drawer started .jpg

I had changed out the 1/2" Bandsaw blade for a NEW 1/4" blade...and saw on the waste sides of the lines...

MAR 25, dovetail work, 1st setcut .jpg

Do a dry fit..

MAR 25, dovetail work, 2nd dry fit .jpg

Once this fits, do the other end the same way..

MAR 25, dovetail work, 2nd side done .jpg

And also dry fit the back...which turned out to be a bit too wide....need to rip about a 1/4" off one edge.

While starting on Drawer Side #2...there was an issue to try to fix,,

MAR 25, dovetail work, cupped a bit .jpg

We have ways...

MAR 25, dovetail work, needs planed flat .jpg

Been how long since I was even able to USE a hand plane? Had to do both faces, trying to get this flat enough to fit..

MAR 25, dovetail work, back's too wide .jpg

Figure by the time I glue and screw the drawer back in place, it should pull it down to flat...front, where the dovetails are, is already flat.

Stay tuned, have 4 more drawer sides to dovetail...Cheer
