  • Looks like a sideboard to me. Though usually the antique ones of years past circa 1780 -1880 had mirrors on it and little shelves off the mirrors. Like this:

Thanks for the courage to share the accident Bandit. I could only take a quick glance. Thankful, you survived mostly intact. Prayers you experience a quick and complete recovery. Take care of yourself and please stay away from the shop. You need time to heal properly.

Ouch! I am happy you still have all the digits, but sorry to see that.

As others have said, let them heal up. Hard to do amything when your thumbs ain't working.

Late to the party but I feel your pain. Two years ago I wasn't paying enough attention and shortened the bird on my left hand. Did heal nice but takes time. Hang in there after all it's still winter.

Sorry to hear about your mishap Bandit and hope your recovery is quick.

OK...Reason for the resaw...was to slim down the fat boards..

Sideboard Proj., thicknesser, goal .jpg

Board on the left is 3/4" thick...which is where the one on the right is supposed to be..had already resawn a few parts without any issues..

So, a change of plan...need to decide which face looks the worst...

Sideboard Proj., thicknesser, bad face .jpg

Which way the grain is going..

Sideboard Proj., thicknesser, grain direction .jpg

Something like this..mark a line...

Sideboard Proj., thicknesser, plane to the line .jpg

Then, clamp the part in the end vise on the bench...use this...

Power Planer, logo side.jpg

To remove the excess wood down to that line...then the No. 62 to smooth things out, taking just the line.

Sideboard Proj., door frame, door rails .jpg

need the best 4 out of this pile for the door's top and bottom rails...then..

Sideboard Proj., door frame, door stiles .jpg

these 4 to be the stiles for the 2 doors...have not decided on these 2..

Sideboard Proj., door frame, door panels .jpg

Msy buzz these 2 flat...as they will be the raised panels for the doors...same with the panels to build 3 drawer fronts with..

Sutures come out Monday morning...may get fitted for a brace...and schedule some PT for both thumbs..we'll see..

Need to also mill grooves fro the raised panels to sit in...and, a mitered half lap at each corner...

Stay tuned...might get rather busy...maybe add wood working to the PT schedule?OldManSmiley

Besides a chisel slice here and there, I haven't had a major accident in years. Once when in my early twenties, I had a 12" Maple splinter kick back off a tablesaw and straight into my sternum. Not good. I walked into the house with it sticking out and my mom freaked out. I was in no pain. Weird. Anyways.... I pulled it out, no blood, and went to emergency. After xray they bandaged me and sent me home.

need to move a few things around...that planer can go sit over here..

Re-organized the work area, this evening...

MAR 8, back at it, moved around .jpg

Old tablesaw blade was taken out of the saw, and turned into a Frisbee to sights unknown...

Once the new blade was installed, the tablesaw could be moved here...then..

MAR 8, back at it, new work area .jpg

A plastic trash bag was laid down, then the case was set on it...to protect the wood from any wet floors...and turned so I can work on the front of the Case.

Dug out the 3 drawer fronts, squared one end, then cut the length to final length...2 needed a curved edge rip off...and they were ripped to 6-1/2" width. Tested with the drawer dividers, to see if the "unit" will fit in the required space...

MAR 8, back at it, re-sized .jpg

Right on the money...at 21-1/2"...numbers are backwards...should read 1, 2 , 3 left to right...top drawer is about 1" shallower than the others.

Took the time to sort through the stack of parts....to find all the parts for the 2 doors...and laid them out, for now...

Drawer Dividers...have a dovetail "tail" on each end....means I need to mill a socket for each one...

Lets try this..

MAR 12, router work, drilled jig .jpg

This needed flattened a bit, and a couple more screw holes drilled..

MAR 11, router work, bit installed .jpg

Yes, it does stick out a bit...had to allow for the guide..

MAR 12, router work, two, six, LIFT .jpg

Tied to use the top of the tablesaw...legs were too tall. So, router table was used,,

MAR 12, router work, clamped down .jpg

Added a clamp...burnt socket was from the router bit set too deep, that the shaft was also try to make the cut..

Clamp the guide in place with a c clamp or 2...add the screws..slide the router on to the guide rods..

MAR 12, router work, too deep .jpg

Shove the router to make a cut

MAR 12, router work, clean up .jpg

Clean up the fuzzies with a block plane...that only needs one hand to use...

Took a few trips to the shop...and a couple Laundry Details...to get all 6 sockets milled...might as well get out the glue and clamps..

MAR 13, glue-up, front dividers .jpg

Plan for today...is to remove all them clamps...then we'll see what happens next..

Stay tuned cowboypistol1

Busy Sunday...drawer runners installed, along with the back of the frames. Rotate the case a few times...plywood back is now installed, and a sabre saw to trim that to final size.

Today: Set the case back down onto the shop floor. on one of the ends, with a trash bag underneath. Trip to Lowes on the way back home this afternoon...three 1 x8 x 6' pine planks = $23.10.....will be the backs and sides of three drawers.

Router table has been freed up, and moved aside, for now. Tablesaw is now able to come out to where I can USE it, along with all the new safety gear that has been sent to the shop..
