March 26Mar 26 Author Popular Post Drawer backs are now trimmed to size...Drawer #2?has been dovetailed and adjusted to fit it's opening...Drawer #3?Drawer Front is back in the clamps..getting the cut-off glued back on..Have traced out the tails...And it can wait until after the Hand Doctor looks at me thumb tomorrow morning....Home Health Care Nurse seems to think the thumb has a bit of infection...no more that it did, the last time I saw the Doctors...we'll see...back to soaking the thumb, again..
March 28Mar 28 Author Popular Post Repair work..dug out the cut-off for that beveled edge,,Thought there was enough clamps..Cleaned things up a bit this morning,,,Beltsander and that plane...and since a drawer side was already to cut...Cut out the waste, dry fit with a mallet...circled area? saw kerf, will fill that up when I glue this drawer upNext trip? IF I can sneak past the Boss long enough to hide in the shop ( been banned, apparently?) Is to saw the other side's dovetails, and get set up to cut 3 drawer bottoms to size...Stay tuned...
March 28Mar 28 Author Popular Post Drawer #3 has been dry fitted up...Clipped corners. are to make starting a drawer into the case a bit easier...Set the Tablesaw's rip fence..Need to rip that much off of a plywood sheet....then rest the fence to 13" width...and cut 3 drawer bottoms, but...Sander and the box need to get out of the way...as I need to rotate the tablesaw 90 degrees to the north, to have enough room to move the plywood through..IF I line things up correctly..the off cuts will land on the jaw of the soon to be empty vise...IF I can get the 3 drawer bottoms cut, there just MIGHT be some assembly time coming up?Stay tuned..

March 28Mar 28 Author Popular Post Now, IF the dang internet will just stay connected...The Panel..1st cut is to remove that strip...so...The Set Up...With an almost clear way ahead...behind was another matter...had to move the saw forward about a foot...Safety first?Clamp the fence slider in place, attach the feather board to the slide..sat a 1/4" thick plywood piece to set the height of the featherboard..Got that strip removed...take away the fancy fence, go with a simple guide strip..Run things through a few things, the GRR_Ripper worked quite well shoving the plywood through....Dry Fits...there was a couple of them...1st try..had too much width/length..piece on top would not fully engage the sockets...panel needed about 1/4" or so cut off..Finally...Set #3 drawer's back in place..starting to look just like a drawer, now....decided to call it a morning (thumb did, actually) swept the floor and went back upstairs..Next time? Drawer Assembly 101....stay tuned...
March 28Mar 28 Author Popular Post Build a drawer (or 2)Clean up the dadoshad to add a 1 x 2 between the drawer side and that blue dog...Pilot holes for 3 screws, as I don't rely on just glue alone...Clipped corner? Makes it easier to start a drawer into the case...full or otherwise..Counter sink for the screw heads...repeat for the other drawer side...Glue, clamps are for the dovetails up front..at the back?line of glue in the dado, drive 3 screws..Check the drawer for square....add three 3 screws to hold the back in place...no, it is not glued in place...3 clamps..top corner, bottom corner and one in the middle..Drawer #3 is in the clamps...waiting on glue to dry...Repeat for the Top Drawer..And that was as far as I got...ran out of long clamps...there is always tomorrow,eh.....Stay tuned..

April 5Apr 5 Author Popular Post Ok, drain issues rsolved enough that I can do Laundry detail...and putter around waiting on the washer to get done...Door work..First door...was too narrow...added a strip along the left side ( hinge side?) and, added the knob. A cordless drill?Then a spot of glue and the screw supplied..Next!This one had issues at the corners...Fixed those, door was kept there for a while...Yellow is where I had to knife in a bead of glue...usual luck around here these days...panel had caused a split to open up. Wall of the show side of the groove ( naturally) had a split. Let this sit a spell..then a test fit...Will see how it looks when the hinges are added..may need a strip added...That was Part 1 of yesterday's follies..stay tuned for Part 2..
April 5Apr 5 Author Popular Post Part 2...involved gluing up the third and last drawer...actually the Middle Drawer...Checked the back..was over a 1/4" too long, trimmed that off..Sides? Cupped, of course...we have ways..Fancy jack plane was handy, so I used it to roughly get things flat...then..Then a No. 3 to make it both smooth and flat..Dados were rough..Stanley No. 71-1/2 took things to smooth and flat..pilot holes were drilled, board flipped over, and the holes were counter sunk. Starter Bevels were done at the bandsaw. Time for a bit of assembly..Check for square..add 3 screws between the back and the bottom panel..drill pilot holes, counter sink for the screw heads..dab of glue under the middle screw..3 clamps for the front to sides, 3 screws in each dado joint( with glue)Issue with the drawer front..Knife in some glue, add a clamp..front of the drawer needs to be planed, anyway..of course. Laundry was done, and into the dryer..Just puttering around on Laundry Day..Stay tuned..
April 5Apr 5 Author Popular Post Laundry Detail on a Sunday...drawer is now out of the clamps, and was getting a cleaning up..Needed a way to hold things still while I worked a bit...that split in the front's corner?corner on the left...yes, I added the knobs, after I had smooth things out..Set 5" in from the end, and centered up....dab of glue was added..That door with the Gaposis?Was given a filler strip...then I can scribe it to better fit the opening...Ok..no room to set the case on to it's feet, right now...but....IF I rotate the photo 90 degrees..Showing the top and middle drawers...will be working on the Top drawer and the bottom drawer next..Stay tuned...
April 7Apr 7 Author Popular Post Door work, again...Add on needed planed down to match the rest of the door..Scribbed to the opening,,planed off the excess..test fit?No gaposis, this time around..awaiting hinges and a knob..Top Drawer had "Issues"...lots of issues..Top edge was a hair too tall..lowered that down a bit..Burn marks just have to leave this AO...and..This will need to be feathered out. a bit..Drilled 2 holes for the knobs..this being a Monday....1 knob was no problem..the other one on the right?Just decided to split..had to repair THAT...divot was feathered out a bit...For those that complain about how small a shop they have....well..Welcome to my shop...Have one more drawer to work on, add a knob to the fitted door...and see about adding hinges...Stay tuned...
April 9Apr 9 Author Popular Post Shop Remodel..This needs put away....goal right now for the Sideboard...Is to replace this mess..Saw Til and the saws in it, may wind up over at the Lutheran's Thrift Store.. Might just build a new one...Sideboard...needs to be sat down on it's own 6 feet...so I can better fit up items...Doors still need their hinges installed..Top 2 drawers have been fitted to their new homes...both have "Stops" added..To stop the drawer from going too far backCorner Braces..have 2 done did..Started out notching through that groove, but, that involved all of these..turned out easier just to screw & glue the other brace....still need to install these at the other end. Drawer #3..has a LOT of issues to fix, one being..One being too much "Toe-out" other end was about half of this...so...wound up pulling the 3 screws, counter sinking them a bit deeper..60 grit beltsander to get things close to the scribe lines,, then a hand plane or two the level things out...Test fits along the way...until..Right about here, the right side will bind up..drawer runner issues...still need to work on the drawer front, and add the 2 knobs...Maybe this weekend, I can work on the top?Yes, I am still going to add bread board ends to this plank...more as a way to keep it flat. BTW..those cauls will be used as the ends..Follow up app for the thumb this morning...then see what the Boss wants to do....Landlord IS sending out a Plumber to work on the drains being plugged up, and too slow...Stay tuned..
