And it can wait until after the Hand Doctor looks at me thumb tomorrow morning....Home Health Care Nurse seems to think the thumb has a bit of infection...no more that it did, the last time I saw the Doctors...we'll see...back to soaking the thumb, again..

  • Looks like a sideboard to me. Though usually the antique ones of years past circa 1780 -1880 had mirrors on it and little shelves off the mirrors. Like this:

Repair work..dug out the cut-off for that beveled edge,,

MAR 27, drawer 3, repaired .jpg

Thought there was enough clamps..

MAR 27, drawer 3, enough clamps .jpg

Cleaned things up a bit this morning,,,

MAR 27, drawer 3, clean-up the filler .jpg

Beltsander and that plane...and since a drawer side was already to cut...

MAR 27, drawer 3, saw and add side .jpg

Cut out the waste, dry fit with a mallet...circled area? saw kerf, will fill that up when I glue this drawer up

Next trip? IF I can sneak past the Boss long enough to hide in the shop ( been banned, apparently?) Is to saw the other side's dovetails, and get set up to cut 3 drawer bottoms to size...Stay tuned...Devil_Laughing

Drawer #3 has been dry fitted up...

MAR 27, Drawer work 3, starter corner .jpg

Clipped corners. are to make starting a drawer into the case a bit easier...

Set the Tablesaw's rip fence..

MAR 27, Drawer work 3, set for plywood cut .jpg

Need to rip that much off of a plywood sheet....then rest the fence to 13" width...and cut 3 drawer bottoms, but...

MAR 27, Drawer work 3, dry fit .jpg

Sander and the box need to get out of the way...as I need to rotate the tablesaw 90 degrees to the north, to have enough room to move the plywood through..IF I line things up correctly..the off cuts will land on the jaw of the soon to be empty vise...

IF I can get the 3 drawer bottoms cut, there just MIGHT be some assembly time coming up?

Stay tuned..TwoThumbsUp

Now, IF the dang internet will just stay connected...

The Panel..

MAR 28, tablesaw work, the panel .jpg

1st cut is to remove that strip...so...

The Set Up...

MAR 28, tablesaw work, the set up .jpg

With an almost clear way ahead...behind was another matter...had to move the saw forward about a foot...

Safety first?

MAR 28, tablesaw work, safety first .jpg

Clamp the fence slider in place, attach the feather board to the slide..sat a 1/4" thick plywood piece to set the height of the featherboard..

Got that strip removed...take away the fancy fence, go with a simple guide strip..

MAR 28, tablesaw work, a helping hand .jpg

Run things through a few things, the GRR_Ripper worked quite well shoving the plywood through....

Dry Fits...there was a couple of them...

MAR 28, tablesaw work, dry fit panel .jpg

1st try..had too much width/length..piece on top would not fully engage the sockets...panel needed about 1/4" or so cut off..

Finally...

MAR 28, tablesaw work, dry fit with back .jpg

Set #3 drawer's back in place..starting to look just like a drawer, now....decided to call it a morning (thumb did, actually) swept the floor and went back upstairs..

Next time? Drawer Assembly 101....stay tuned...

They are looking good Bandit. Hope the thumb is getting better.

As usual amazing work Steve !

Build a drawer (or 2)

Clean up the dados

MAR 28, Drawer Building, router planed .jpg

had to add a 1 x 2 between the drawer side and that blue dog...

MAR 28, Drawer Building, dado cleaned .jpg

Pilot holes for 3 screws, as I don't rely on just glue alone...Clipped corner? Makes it easier to start a drawer into the case...full or otherwise..

MAR 28, Drawer Building, counter sunk .jpg

Counter sink for the screw heads...repeat for the other drawer side...

Glue, clamps are for the dovetails up front..at the back?

MAR 28, Drawer Building, assembled .jpg

line of glue in the dado, drive 3 screws..Check the drawer for square....

MAR 28, Drawer Building, #3 Drawer glued up .jpg

add three 3 screws to hold the back in place...no, it is not glued in place...3 clamps..top corner, bottom corner and one in the middle..

Drawer #3 is in the clamps...waiting on glue to dry...Repeat for the Top Drawer..

MAR 28, Drawer Building, 2 drawers assembled .jpg

And that was as far as I got...ran out of long clamps...there is always tomorrow,eh.....

Stay tuned..

Ok, drain issues rsolved enough that I can do Laundry detail...and putter around waiting on the washer to get done...

Door work..

Laundry Detail, door work, 1st door .jpg

First door...was too narrow...added a strip along the left side ( hinge side?) and, added the knob. A cordless drill?

Laundry Detail, part 2, Crank side .jpg

Then a spot of glue and the screw supplied..

Next!

Laundry Detail, door work, 2nd door waiting .jpg

This one had issues at the corners...

Laundry Detail, part2, fixed corner .jpg

Fixed those, door was kept there for a while...

Laundry Detail, part 2, repair work .jpg

Yellow is where I had to knife in a bead of glue...usual luck around here these days...panel had caused a split to open up. Wall of the show side of the groove ( naturally) had a split. Let this sit a spell..then a test fit...

Laundry Detail, part 2, dry fit door .jpg

Will see how it looks when the hinges are added..may need a strip added...

That was Part 1 of yesterday's follies..stay tuned for Part 2..

Part 2...involved gluing up the third and last drawer...actually the Middle Drawer...

Checked the back..was over a 1/4" too long, trimmed that off..

Sides? Cupped, of course...we have ways..

Laundry Detail, part 2, Jack plane .jpg

Fancy jack plane was handy, so I used it to roughly get things flat...then..

Laundry Detail, part 2, smooth plane .jpg

Then a No. 3 to make it both smooth and flat..

Dados were rough..Stanley No. 71-1/2 took things to smooth and flat..pilot holes were drilled, board flipped over, and the holes were counter sunk. Starter Bevels were done at the bandsaw.

Time for a bit of assembly..

Laundry Detail, part 2, glued up .jpg

Check for square..add 3 screws between the back and the bottom panel..drill pilot holes, counter sink for the screw heads..dab of glue under the middle screw..

Laundry Detail, part 2, 3 up, 3 down .jpg

3 clamps for the front to sides, 3 screws in each dado joint( with glue)

Issue with the drawer front..

Laundry Detail, part 2, split fixed .jpg

Knife in some glue, add a clamp..front of the drawer needs to be planed, anyway..of course.

Laundry was done, and into the dryer..

Just puttering around on Laundry Day..

Stay tuned..

Laundry Detail, Sunday, split fixed .jpg

corner on the left...yes, I added the knobs, after I had smooth things out..

Laundry Detail, Sunday, added the knobs .jpg

Set 5" in from the end, and centered up....dab of glue was added..

That door with the Gaposis?

Laundry Detail, Sunday, added a filler strip .jpg

Was given a filler strip...then I can scribe it to better fit the opening...

Ok..no room to set the case on to it's feet, right now...but....IF I rotate the photo 90 degrees..

Laundry Detail, Sunday, tilted the camera .jpg

Showing the top and middle drawers...will be working on the Top drawer and the bottom drawer next..

Stay tuned...OldManSmiley

Laundry Detail, fitting up, door fits better .jpg

No gaposis, this time around..awaiting hinges and a knob..

Top Drawer had "Issues"...lots of issues..

Laundry Detail, fitting up, too tall front .jpg

Top edge was a hair too tall..lowered that down a bit..Burn marks just have to leave this AO...and..

Laundry Deatil, fitting up, needs leveled .jpg

This will need to be feathered out. a bit..

Laundry Detail, fitting up, 1 good, 1 not .jpg

Drilled 2 holes for the knobs..this being a Monday....1 knob was no problem..the other one on the right?

Laundry Detail, fitting up, repair a split .jpg

Just decided to split..had to repair THAT...divot was feathered out a bit...

For those that complain about how small a shop they have....well..

Laundry Detail, fitting up, work area .jpg

Sideboard...needs to be sat down on it's own 6 feet...so I can better fit up items...

Laundry Wednesday, moving day .jpg

Doors still need their hinges installed..Top 2 drawers have been fitted to their new homes...both have "Stops" added..

Laundry Wednesday, Drawer stop installed .jpg

To stop the drawer from going too far back

Corner Braces..have 2 done did..

Laundry Wednesday, corner braces .jpg

Started out notching through that groove, but, that involved all of these..

Laundry Wednesday, tool kit .jpg

turned out easier just to screw & glue the other brace....still need to install these at the other end.

Drawer #3..has a LOT of issues to fix, one being..

Laundry Wednesday, out of square corner .jpg

One being too much "Toe-out" other end was about half of this...so...

Laundry Wednesday, working it down .jpg

wound up pulling the 3 screws, counter sinking them a bit deeper..60 grit beltsander to get things close to the scribe lines,, then a hand plane or two the level things out...

Test fits along the way...until..

Laundry Wednesday, test fit, almost there .jpg

Right about here, the right side will bind up..drawer runner issues...still need to work on the drawer front, and add the 2 knobs...

Maybe this weekend, I can work on the top?

Laundry Wednesday, top panel waiting .jpg

Yes, I am still going to add bread board ends to this plank...more as a way to keep it flat. BTW..those cauls will be used as the ends..

Follow up app for the thumb this morning...then see what the Boss wants to do....

Landlord IS sending out a Plumber to work on the drains being plugged up, and too slow...

Stay tuned..

Great news Bandit. Sideboard is really taking shape now.

Looks good, especially for a man with no opposable grip. Just getting caught up on this journey, it’s a good one.
