And, we have a glue up...:Cheer:

858690785_ComputerDeskHutchfirstassemblyinstalled.JPG.1dc29650a25366d2c1972d5b6d9ea326.JPG

4 clamps to hold the cubby assembly, clamped the top of the Hutch to the top of the tablesaw, was a bit tippy, otherwise

Toys were needed..

949303406_ComputerDeskHutchtools.JPG.3fa914372e792a5b34fb70475ee0fdb4.JPG

Added a few screws to each glue joint ( only snapped one screw ) drill for the pilot holes, another to drive the screws home after the countersink drill..:ChinScratch:

96650911_ComputerDeskHutchscrewsadded.JPG.bbc5a897fbad4aff3b87ec1f21fe4771.JPG

And sanded things smooth( and remove any markings )

Fun part was to rotate this mess around, and glue the rest of the parts in place.   i didn't like the "show edge" of the Monitor shelf, flipped that over...spread some glue, and add a forest of clamps...B)

1083641849_ComputerDeskHutchallgluedup.JPG.82c8c1ea8c85902fdfc41d50067945a8.JPG

Will let this sit a day ( and me too..:OldManSmiley:), and then sand and stain?  :Tapping:

Now, gene has been hollering about the brackets I will be using to attach this hutch to the desk...bought  them this morning, along with those brass screws..

Soooo....:SaluteandRun::SaluteandRun::SaluteandRun:

10615476_ComputerDeskHutchbrackets.JPG.15ee3fc317c733ab1f476e23b51ee4fd.JPG

The Brass "L" shaped ones go around back, one per upright...IF the other brackets look familiar?:WonderScratch:

881625141_computerdeskassemblyassemblystarted.JPG.4e7cb3c2b25cf2d84badbd2253529c27.JPG

I used another set to connect the desk parts together....new ones come with their own screws..B)

2054548884_ComputerDeskHutchscrewchoices.JPG.4ef0663bd3f319aa5eb450ed2078d932.JPG

Them black, round tops.....or, I could just use brass screws....:ChinScratch:

have "homework" to do on the knee....letting the glue dry awhile.....once all them clamps are gone, I can add screws to the top's glue joints...

Stay tuned....:cowboy:

Placed back onto the tablesaw, router did a few stretches of round-overs...front of the shelves got sanded..and set this aside for a bit..B)

1944875730_ComputerDeskHutchoutoftheclamps.JPG.34c4dc34eb85ad1cbb42438e3f21ad59.JPG

While I figured out how to stain everything that showed...finally...:ChinScratch:

2097909673_ComputerDeskHutchcoatofstainapplied.JPG.0cfe338a7de3521eb3c52c170a77e9f5.JPG

Letting the stain dry, right now....no shellac, yet.   besides, I needed to resaw a few parts for a door frame.:ChinScratch:

1446302414_ComputerDeskHutchresawdoorparts.JPG.294f7636b05f004aa1dbe1b0f7229ab4.JPG

Ran enough for a pair of stiles and a pair of rails.   Then  ran a groove in all four  parts, and tenons on the rails..

1230598343_ComputerDeskHutchdoorframe.JPG.89ebf174a894f2ebb08b2690d4ff7c0a.JPG

Used these to mark out what size plywood to cut....out of that fancy grained plywood....then a dry fit..:JawDrop:

1135469602_ComputerDeskHutchdoordryfit.JPG.2fe91d20e9ecb0ba5ba1418021ae2294.JPG

Parts need cleaned up, glued up, sanded and stained...then some hardware.  Will use a paper shim under the door, when installing the brass hinges..B)

So, letting the knee rest a while, today....I also did ONE lap walking around in Wall E World :OldManSmiley:( needed a new brush for the shellac) so kind of tired...may work on that door later this evening, maybe.   :WonderScratch:

stay tuned..:cowboy:

Door is now sitting in the clamps. B) Cleaned the show side of the frame with the #11  Junior jack plane..spread some glue, added some cauls..:Cheer:

1063569606_ComputerDeskDoorinside.JPG.866c9642c105ea87447fc92e26ab4be6.JPG

View of the inside of the door, I used pairs of cauls, to clamp the ends flat. B) Vise is holding a second HF clamp, as a third hand...the outside?

1664154657_ComputerDeskDooroutsideface.JPG.547175fef03b6fba36066bd259b07492.JPG

Trying to decide which way is "up".:WonderScratch:..according to the grain in the panel.   Will let this sit overnight...then clean it up, test fit the results and maybe a coat of stain?:ChinScratch:

Dug up some hardware, too.:ChinScratch:

1661189111_ComputerDeskDoorhardware.JPG.f8cad92e7e5f374dc56b5492ce4b06b9.JPG

Will surface mount the hinges...latch is to keep the door shut...never know WHAT you might find behind that door...:BugEyeSmiley::CoveringEyes::DevilLaughing:

there is and issue...about one of the brackets for the front of the hutch...:BangingHead:

1299793920_ComputerDeskHutchfrontbracketsanddrill.JPG.13f05552347a2823cc6fa98656e4d016.JPG

That one on the right...won't allow the door to open all the way, will move it to just around the corner....like the pilot hole drill?:ChinScratch:

Once the stain on the door is dry, and the door installed....then I'll shellac the entire Hutch a few times...B)

Looking like "Moving Day" may be this coming weekend?  been a LONG month of work..:OldManSmiley:.

stay tuned..:cowboy:

Way to go Steve. Now to get some strong backs to haul it up those stairs.

  • Popular Post

Hello Steve

Your work is excellent! Thanks for sharing!:Cheer:

hat

As Larry said, take it apart to move it up the stairs.  If it were me, I would use a Harbor Freight moving blanket or an old quilt to move it upstairs.  Put the blanket or quilt on the steps, flip it end over end to get the top down on the quilt.  Make sure the quilt stays with the desk and then it is a pretty easy push up the stairs without more damage to the knee.  I am so sorry for the knee pain.  I've heard from others how painful that is.

Steven, thank you for the journey and a beautiful work station.  It looks great.

Desk is ready to move upstairs.   had to shim under the door, was dragging halfway to fully opened. :ArguingSmileys:

Need to schedule a time when enough young bodies are around to move things around....I can move the drawers and the hutch...desk will take two people..and I am not one of them.  Biggest thing will be moving the computer out of it's old home, and into the new one....:OldManSmiley:

Now have a new LED desk light...old one died.  And, it is very BRIGHT...need sunglasses to sit at the computer :JawDrop:

thanks for following along :cowboy:
