Getting ready to cut into a nice 8/4 board of heavy Curly Maple to begin another rocker journey. Tonight I'm laying out parts and cutting. With any luck I'll have some slats in the steamer tonight. This photo does no justice to the figure in this board. I'll keep this topic going with this chair build. Thanks for following along! Legs are cut and squared.

April 8, 20179 yr Author Popular Post Thanks for the kudos gents! This morning I have parts roughed out, and ready for planing and smoothing and turning. I book matched the rockers, arms and back slats. The chair rungs are in the middle below the back slats, the legs are laying on the sides.

Herb Herb, I started with a 8/4 x 96" by 9.5" board, and I cut all the parts from it. I have a length about 2 feet left. I am going to try to get a matching foot stool from that section. The seat is weaved fabric tape, no wood is used in the seat.
April 8, 20179 yr Author Popular Post Just got the back slats out of the steam box and into their forms. Here they'll set for a week or more.

You know, they did have access to some beautiful figured maple Dave, actually more so than we do today, I have seen original chairs with gorgeous figure, here is a chair at the New Lebanon Museum in New York. This chair was built in the 1850's. Here is the link to the furniture gallery for the New Lebanon Museum: https://shakerml.org/blogs/furniture
