I swear one of these days I'm going to use my lathe and turn something. Our Patriot Turners- Thanks to @User74 for posting his cool lidded bowl, on our "Off the Lathe" topic! Ron Brown's latest newsletter may provide some. Turning Wood Is Like An All-You-Can-Eat Buffet There is a seemingly endless variety to choose from. Some you know instantly you want, some quite the opposite. There are others you might want to sample first before digging in. There is something for everyone’s taste in the world of woodturning. General Categories: Dried wood, wet/green wood, branch wood, wood from trees brought down by storms, projects using glued segments, wood suitable for spindles (grain runs parallel to the lathe bed), bowl orientation (grain is perpendicular to the lathe bed), hybrid wood and resin, structural projects (columns, posts, balusters, etc.), furniture parts (legs, stretchers, stool seats, etc.), projects using kits (pens, seam rippers, bottle stoppers, pepper mills, etc.) Within each general category, there are several sub-categories. Most folks never venture beyond 3 or 4; a few will try 5 to 7, then usually return to the category they are most comfortable with and know the most about. Here are a few items for your consideration: Bowls, vases, platters, goblets, pepper mills, candle holders, pens, bottle stoppers, Christmas ornaments, spindles, rolling pins, tool handles, jewelry boxes, decorative eggs, mortar and pestle, egg cups, honey dippers, spurtles, garden dibbers, mushrooms, finials, drawer pulls, bracelets, desk organizers, cake stands, salt cellars, lazy susans, mallets, yo-yos, coasters, napkin rings, birdhouses, chess pieces, plant stands, picture frames, serving spoons, tealight holders, fruit bowls, urns, platters with inlays, sculptures, toys, tea kettles, coffee scoops, trays, jewelry trees, herb grinders, clocks, letter openers, spinning tops, furniture legs, balusters, posts and columns, segmented urns, vases, basket weave illusion plates, vases, and bowls. I know, a day late (and a dollar short). Got volunteered to make a set piece for the local community theater group. Rush job. Our Patriot Turners- @Masonsailor posted a new mallet he made for a friend. The unique design is for a specialized function. I really think this one is too pretty to use!! Paul tells us bout the use and the materials used, in his post- Back in May, @Gerald told us about the guest speaker at their club meeting. Jeff Hornung demonstrated how embellishes his bowls/platters with the Sorby Texturing and Spiraling tool. Gerald posted some of his fantastic examples recently. Can't really come up with any ideas that stir my turning juices. Thought maybe there was a scrap of cherry down behind the garden shed but when I cut into the carpenter ants had converted it into a summer resort. There was a small piece of Chinese elm crotch there. Cut it round and mounted it on the lathe Got the chance to finally use the present I bought myself a month or so ago, I know, it's like a Rolls Royce hood emblem on a Ford, but hey... Started an ogee type shape on the outside Created the mortice- When I re-chucked it, I didn't think the ogee looked so nice and modified it slightly Hollowed it out- I decided to turn this to finish thickness and let it dry/warp Added a clamp around the perimeter to lessen the warping- The clamp fell off over night. Warping has commenced and a crack has opened up where a bark inclusion was located. Safe turning and stay well

When I bought my Record Power lathe a lot of people were wondering how their customer service would be with them being in the UK including myself. I have not had any problems. I love the lathe. I received an email from Highland Woodworking which is who I bought it from. They said they shipped me something. I called because I didn’t order anything. I was told that a few people had trouble with the controller so Record Power is sending a new one to everybody that bought one of those lathes. I thought that was very good. Now I will have a spare controller in case I need one. Sounds like Record Power customer service is nothing to worry about.
