Lumber Run, today....1 x 8s and 1 x 4s...about 20' each...cut down to fit into the Chevy's trunk ( barely)  and all planed down to 3/4" thickness....to be parts for Door #3 and Door #4....

 

Otherwise, being it is a monday......shop will be closed for today....I am plumb tuckered out...

New lumber, stashed and waiting..

And..the 20" that didn't fit off of that LONG plank...

3/4" x 8" x 20".....either a top or a bottom rail...we'll see..

Two doors...

Just a 1/4" under 43" tall....and each door is 19" wide...Will start the clean up and Witch's Brew tomorrow...

 

Then start on Door #3  ...

 

Boss was out get a price idea on paint for the walls....look out...Hinges have been bought, with a Matte Black finish..

Needed a serious "Can Opener"...

For the "Olde School Types" out there, this even has a screwdriver end...The ARCO Company..

Door #2 was first..stood it up and varnish the "inside" face first, then rotated to do the show face..

Dark streak is Sap Wood...aka ..SPONGE...will give it a second coat later...

Knees did NOT like all that bending over..so, if I can't go to the Mountain...

I can do things this way...later, after this inside face has dried enough...I can flip it over, and do the Show face..

 

Have Laundry Detail after a while....will see how they look then...

Working on a MONDAY?

Start here..

3 out of 4 needed to be resawn on the tablesaw, set to 3/4" between the fence and the blade...then pick one..

Yes, that IS a screw there...one at the other end as well....Stanley No.8c to flatten things down...

The reason I am not worried about those screw holes?

Is that they are in the area that will be mitered off..

First bead, and..

2 beads done..only 6 more to go..

Speed bump?

8 beads are done..

Decided to sweep the mess up..

Was a very messy morning....

Monday Update...the blanks for the top/bottom Rails needed a wee bit of work..BEFORE they even saw the Stanley 45..

Cupped, bowed, and about everything else...These 2 planes, plus a couple of 80 grit sanders...to BOTH faces...takes a while...

Jig needed adjusted...Best looking face gets the beads...

Got 2 rails done on Monday...before the back and legs said it was Quitting Time...

 

So, this morning....Finish up the other 2 rails...hauled that big pile of shavings upstairs to the Fire Pit..

Then hauled a few 1 x 8s to the shop....out of the 3, I could only use 2....the 3rd one?

Imagine an entire 1 x 8 looking like this....the other 2 weren't too hateful...

Found enough "good wood" for the 2 center stiles, and..

The 2 Lock Rails...and that was it for this morning....everything is clamped up to allow things to season a bit, hopefully stay flat....Tomorrow?    Either mill more beads, or...start some joinery....

Lower Back has decided...no beads to be run, today....so..

Laid out a few miter cuts, instead

 

First pair..laid in the wrong direction...and barely nicked those counter sunk screw holes...

Adjust the cut lines back enough, to remove them...cut was made on the bandsaw Then a No. 3 plane was used to remove the saw marks...laid out all 4 stiles..trying to make them all match each other..

At BOTH ends..

So far, so good?   But, these also need to be half laps...Marking gauge to lay out the cuts needed...Mitersaw to make the 90 degree cut down to the lay out lines...

But, there was 2 choices on how the waste was to be removed....either with a handsaw....

Not feeling quite up to doing 8 like this...so..the next 3 were done at the bandsaw...

And, as long as I took my time, and kept the stile perfectly vertical in the cut....wasn't all the much different ...

From the one done with the handsaw...

 

Back and between the shoulder blades were saying it was quitting time...about 90 minutes of shop time, today.

 

So...try again tomorrow?...

OK...had 4 Tasks to do, this morning...

Task #1:  complete the other 2 stiles...

Done did...Task #2?

Well....Involved the top & bottom rails....Was going to try the half lap with just hand saws..even had the depth-stops on the Mitrebox set up,,

Came time to remove the waste...

No matter which saw I tried, they all wanted to grab.(Grab-astick?)..was taking way too long...so..

Reset the tablesaw to remove the waste..by nibbling it away..

Then needed a plane and chisel..

Until all 4 rails were done...

Task #3...concerned the 2 Lock Rails...

Both needed belt-sanded and planed flat...they both needed trimmed square and to 14-7/8" long...Then set up the jig to mill the beads...

First lock rail done...#2?

Done did...

 

Task #4?  

Was to do the 2 Center Stiles.....Ser Uncle Charles decided to hit my Left Calf, instead....swept the shop, and hobbled up the stairs...there's always tomorrow..

Great progress Bandit. Keep the updates coming. Closest I get to be to a shop for a while. At least you're keeping me busy.

Task #4 this morning...took a bit of time to do...First..they needed planed flat...

Then jigged to the bench..

And then smoothed down, to see which face of each plank looked the best...then add a couple hold downs..

And start running the Stanley #45 to mill a bead...pausing every now and then...

To clear out any jams going on...

Finally..

Last bead is done...and so is Task #4...

 

Task #5 was in 2 parts...

Part #1:  Tenons.   Used the 6" combo square to set depth of cut and the distance between the fence and the saw blade..

about four nibbles to each face, on the 2 Lock Rails, and the 2 Center Stiles...

Part 2

Same Combo square to lay out a couple cut...on the bandsaw..

And each corner gets a miter cut, and the tenon is trimmed down to size

All 4 parts..the 2 lock rails, and the 2 center stiles..

Task #5 is now completed...

 

Task #6?  First, clean up the shop's floor..

This was right at the 90 minute mark in the shop, so..tomorrow..

I drag this thing back out..clear off the top, reset the fence and guide strip...Task #6 will be milling grooves...some are through grooves, some are stopped grooves...

Task #7: will be to do a half lap joint...

Where the Lock Rail crosses over the Center Stile...We'll see how things go...was getting charlie horses in my lower legs, just standing at the Bandsaw, today....

I suppose I had better Up-Date this mess....

Router Table:

New guide strip..and a new "face" to the Fence ( covers up the hole where I buried a bit)

Load, and make a BIG mess...but..

All the parts for 2 Doors now have the grooves they require...which leaves Sunday's antics..

 

Mortise and tenon work...."Wir haben zu arbeiten"

This is how it is supposed to work....Bandsaw cuts away the waste..to fit the tenon...chisel to chop down 1/4" deep to house the tenon...

And hopefully it sits square...this is the Lock Rail into the Stile joint...repeat for the other Stile...

Two done...decided to get one of the 2 doors done and glued up, before working on the last of 4 doors...

Tested out one of the raised panels..

Hmmm, we have work to do ...

 

Came time to work on where the center stile meets the top/bottom rail....Mortise was SUPPOSED to go here..

The edge WITH a groove.....however..

NOT this edge!

Added a patch, waiting on glue to cure, will re-run the Bead, and try to blend things in...This will be the bottom edge of the Bottom door,,,now.

 

 

Raised Panels:   need thinner rebates, so that they will fit IN the grooves, and NOT break out the beaded edges...

We have ways

Craftsman #3720 (Sargent #79)  to remove the excess wood..even across the grain..then flip this over..

Run the #3 plane all over the front of the panel(  this one will be "FUN")  then a dry fit of what I got done

That will be the Top Rail on this door, still needs its Mortise done...Center rail needs a half lap where it crosses the Lock Rail...2 raised panels were fitted..

 

And..NOW I get to work on a MONDAY?
