July 27Jul 27 Popular Post comment_379271 Finished up the salt/pepper grinder. Red oak, maple, cherry, walnut and purple heart. Tiny piece of African blackwood and antelope antler for the black and white identifiers. Multiple applications of wipe on gloss poly. About 12" tall. Made a "holder" for them as they seemed a little top heavy. Turned entirely with Easy Wood Tools products. CrushGrind mechanisms from Woodcraft. Report

I have never made any grinders, but have explored the possibility, the degree of accuracy required is difficult at best and you did a matched pair very well done and i like the idea of using antler for an identifier may have to borrow it sometime. August 11Aug 11 comment_379870 Finally finished a couple of turnings-Elm burl platter picked up at the turning club auction. Several people picked up this gnarly piece but put it back. It kept telling me to make something from it. Call it "Waning Moon". About 11" in diameter and less than an inch thick. Wipe on poly finish. Turned completely with East Wood Tools productsA former student brought me a Locust log. As a thank you, made this little bowl. About 7" in diameter and 3" deep. Also Easy Wood Tools products and finished with Yorkshire grit. Report
August 26Aug 26 Author Popular Post comment_380363 Finished these up yesterday and are heading to SWAT Thursday.This one is pecan with texture and added dry brush acrylic paint.This one has a long story. I was doing a demo on returning a bowl got a catch and the two pieces of the bowl went flying . Looked at the pieces and decided gluing back together was out of the question. SO I turned it upside down on lathe and ripped out the broken area. Then glued in a piece of mahogany . To disguise the repair and take advantage of the grain added the burn and pencil art, Finish on both is lacquer. Report
