March 5Mar 5 Awesome @lew. It sure boggles the mind (mine anyway) seeing those go from the rough stock to such an amazing look. Truly works of art.

Please explain your processI'll do you one better, here's the link to the complete blog on how they are made. Parts #3 & #4 show the slot cutting and the glue up process. I have made some changes to the jigs and a few other things to make the overall process more efficient but the blog is pretty much the same.
March 7Mar 7 Thanks for the link. Your blog is an amazing work, detail should be enough to explain the process to anyone. if you ever need more cutter bits for your duplicator, they are available at Harbor Frgt. in a 5 pack of assorted sizes, they are sold for their mini metal lathe. price is a lot higher than your .25 but what isn't.

I originally started with .25 x .25 inch cutter. They worked well but the finish needed lots of sanding to remove the ridges. I thought I'd try .375 x .375 inch ones. Those worked better and removed a little more material, too. Ordered 1 from Amazon- less than a dollar. Someone at the warehouse couldn't read and they sent me 1 BAG for the same price. If you need one, I have extras
March 21Mar 21 Popular Post With all that Mother Nature dished out to us this week I was able to get in the shop and finish this bowl up. I rough turned it this past summer, finished with Tried and True danish oil.

May 8May 8 Popular Post Kinda long story but hear goes. Had to take down the last big tree in our backyard last fall, big maple, anyway stump needs to go so called in reinforcement, aka stump grinder. During a short break to adjust cutters on grinder talk went to what could be made from wood like what was inside the stump, and of course the woodturner surfaced to show off possibilities, and one thing to another leads to a request for a vase, so being the kind of person I am the inevitable happened and here is the result Needless to say but the cost of stump removal decreased considerably 😁 and i got to enjoy some shop time. Thanks for looking and putting up with my rambling .
May 8May 8 Good on you, @Rusty S for making something for the "tree men". I have also found that those favors a helpful when writing the check! How did you hollow the vase?
May 9May 9 Popular Post Like a lot of people l know I built my own captured system. I have two different boring bars, a 3/4 and 1 1/2 inch diameter. The small one is good for about 10 inches deep and the big one will reach about 20 inches . If. I get to the shop tomorrow I'll take a picture and post it. It's nothing fancy but it works for me.
Saturday at 12:42 AM2 days Popular Post A couple of projects finally getting finished up-This idea was from the April 2026 AAW magazine written by Alan Finn. I seem to have this thing about complicated glue ups. My little Hitachi chop saw was at its limits on cutting depth! Walnut and maple. A little over 4" across and about 2.25" high. Poly finish.A while back, a sawyer friend dropped off some Crabapple limbs. Some of the colors were amazingly bright. Unfortunately they faded during the drying process. This one is a gift to him for the wood. Approx 6" in diameter and 3" tall. Gloss wipe on poly.
Saturday at 11:49 AM2 days wonderful pieces Lew. Now that i see that first bowl finished i think i'm going to have to try one myself, I also have a problem with complicated things🤣
