April 28, 20224 yr CC like motel key cards are good, too. Sounds like you may be able to collect a few on your way out here. BTW, where does your EXMO live?

I can drop south anywhere in Kansas, pick up US-60W, and after a mere 925 miles of two-lane bliss, take a Tempe exit 1/2 mile from her home. Probably crossing more northernly this time. Want to drop south through SE Utah for a change. No hotels. We travel in style. With two litter boxes.
April 28, 20224 yr Author Popular Post Hmm, ok...needed to remove the dried glue from the 4 legs...we have ways... Millers Falls No. 14, sold as a Craftsman Jack plane...cleaned off the dried glue with ease...ends of the legs were trimmed square, and all 4 legs are now 19-1/2" long....needed to level the sides a bit... And a few of the rough sawn faces were planed smooth, too.. . Made a lot of thin shavings...soon had all the legs squared up... And since they were all just sitting here...squared a line all around.. 6" down from the (Now) Top of the legs. This is where the tapers will stop at....then set 3 legs aside.. Mark 1" in from the edge (covered by the ruler) and mark a line up to the stop line...Bandsaw time.. Cut one taper..rotate 90 degrees, lay out the other taper..saw that...then back to the No.6c plane.. Clean off the saw marks....by the time both tapers are planed... You will not need to sand anything. Mark the top of the leg with a "T" on each edge there is a taper on....which is where the tenons will be going. Was a bit too tired to sweep up.. Hope nobody minds a few shavings on a shop's floor.... Stay tuned, still have 3 more legs to taper..
April 30, 20224 yr Author Popular Post Legs, Part 2... Lay outs... Cuts.. Plane.. Have to keep track of where the tapers are going.. About 45 minutes of the hour in the shop.. Needed to cut and plane 6 tapers.... The rest of the shoptime? Had a rip saw to rehab. Bandsaw got a new worklight bulb... And...I even swept the floor tonight.. But, still need to haul this up to the firepit.. Getting a might too full... I am soaked, so I am sitting here having an ICE Cold Guinness Draught Stout....I'm bushed. Stay tuned..tomorrow I might work on the table's top

I've got a Stanley, made in England, 14", plastic handle, knob, and wheel. It "appeared" one day but I'm not sure if it is the one I bought in the early 1980s Did you write a Planes 101 at one point? The models and uses of your various planes? Maybe an ongoing Gallery Album resource ... I've struggled with my Handyman, shaping ebony violin fingerboards. Then got the smallest LN "violin maker's plane". A real gem. Then a No. 102, which is smaller than the 60 1/2. But found myself, after all of these years, seeing the value of the 14" plane in leveling.
April 30, 20224 yr Popular Post Somewhere?? At sometime??? I picked up a Stanley 12-101. It's a cute little bugger. I might find a use for it somewhere?? At sometime???
April 30, 20224 yr Author Popular Post I tend to size the plane used to the size of the task I need done.... As for today's shoptime...2 hours of puttering around in the shop.. Clamps came off the panel for the table's top....between this No.6c and a coarse beltsander ( glue lines) spent some time getting both faces leveled....couple of spots I used the M-F # 8 smoother....Then set up to trim this down a bit..24" was a bit too long.. Have to allow for the bread board edges...to still have a square top...Saw is a Skil #520 Home Shop 6"....older than I am.. Next, and old router was put to work.. Took 4 set ups....but.. Used these to lay out the groove in the bread board ends...then finally, spread some glue.. Why is it, that glue on fingers dries faster than glue on wood? Should be enough clamps? On Laundry Detail...may have to head back down there,,,washing to go into the dryer.... I am a sweaty, dusty mess....right now...might try to figure out the 3 apron blanks, next time? Stay tuned...

April 30, 20224 yr Author Popular Post Millers Falls No. 8 is the same size as a Stanley No.3 smoother Comes in handy when hitting just small areas.... My Millers Falls planes stop at the No. 15 size.....as for the Stanley no. 8....the No.8c WAS in use a while back....working as a jointer on those 33" long planks and.. IF there happens to be a high spot....old #8c will find it.....but...10 pounds of plane tires the arms out, real fast.... One of the reasons I switched to the No. 6c.....and, the number 8 was a tad too long...working on boards as long as the plane is..

Just finished flattening a wide chunk with the unmarked 14" Stanley, for the heft of the handle, breadth of the iron. Sitting down. Half the board at a time. Saturday evening planing. Politely called Gentleman Joinery. Could have done it on the table saw when it gets remotorized. Machine oil bath, this wood took. I'll be cutting off a good half inch from all six sides, possibly to no avail. Still, a utilitarian basement shelf, thick sides, dovetailed shelves, is doable.
May 1, 20224 yr Author Popular Post 90 minutes of shop time, today...even with the fan on HIGH...I am still a sweaty mess... Film at 2300 hrs...need to process the photos, first...
May 1, 20224 yr Author Popular Post Had to level things up, once the clamps came off.. Had one pesky corner.. And that edge was trying to raise up....about that Brand? Once the underside was flat, and smooth...I could use the branding iron...about in the center.. BANDIT'S Dungeon WOOD SHOP... This is AFTER it had cooled back down... Vintage saw time.. Then beltsand smooth.... This is what you'll see from the top of the table....flip this over. and locate where the legs will sit.. Something like this.. Back 2 legs....needed to measure how long the aprons and drawer fronts needed to be...16-3/4" allowing for a 1/2" tenon on each end...Then cut 4 blanks.. One will be the drawer front..2 look-alikes for the sides, and one for the back... Mortise and Tenon tasks will be the next time I go to the shop.....we getting there.. Stay tuned
May 1, 20224 yr Popular Post All this talk of Millers Falls reminds me I need to schedule a road trip with the Missus. Mohawk trail west, through Millers Falls, among other towns.
