That simple, little table has been delivered to a friend of mine's house,today.....time to clear the beck for action..

Haul 4 planks to the shop...

And sort out for the best grain for a table top..

Thinking about the center 2 planks...the one on the left?

Will get used as apron stock/drawer front....Need to cut things down to a more manageable size.   Can't use the tablesaw, and can't use the mitreboxes just yet..

Have to do the saw work here....need enough blanks to make a 24" x 24" table top panel....mark out a line..

And get the saw down and ready to go..

Should do the trick?   A "Cordless" saw.....I just happen to be the "motor"  

 

Waiting til Supper settles, then start some Cardio?

 

Table will have a drawer, this time around...will need wider aprons on 3 sides...

I'm  tuned. Those are some pretty nice looking boards you picked Bandit. Like the grain.

Cardio is done for now....

1st saw cut....nice and easy, full length strokes....

Even when trimming a bit off the ends.  

All from this saw.....Laid out the 4 blanks...

Needs jointed....had a bunch of wavy edges to remove, too...

Right now, it is 21" x 24".....might trim down both to 20"?    depends on the bread board ends....

 

Have used up 2 out of 4 planks...and have a couple pieces from those first 2 boards....to cut up for parts...like legs?

I've spent time near a similar group, the Moravians.  Want to visit Historic Moravian Bethlehem Historic District in Pennsylvania when time allows.

Anyway, Jointer work, today....took about an hour...

As I only do the edges that will get glued together...1st edge.   Tried out a fancy plane as a Jointer..

has a problem...it likes to lean to one side....finally got one joint done...

Each edge I get jointed, I then mark with an "OK"..

Keeping an eye on the squared edges, too.   That metal "yardstick"?    Called a Tinner's Ruler, by Luftkin.   I use it to hunt for high/low spots...and a combo square to check for...square.

Decided to go back to a normal Jointer plane...

As the #62 was having "issues"....this WW2 Veteran did not.   Stanley No. 6c, Type 17..

 

Got the matching edges to..match up, enough for a full dry fit..

About time to clamp and glue?

That far end needed something ...extra..

Like a caul and some clamps....to pull thing flat....will let this sit a spell...

"Clean up !  Aisle #1!"    so ended the entire hour of shoptime...for now.

Do you really believe it will take that long?

hey...maybe I get get it to last until my Birthday?   May 15th?

 

 

Can't do much more, today.....maybe get some blanks for the legs laid out.  

 

Going from Memory...about how Norm Abram built one of these tables....so it won't be an exact copy....lost the workbook plans long ago.

 

 

Need the legs done next....so I can size the front and 2 side aprons....and THEN work on the drawer build....Norm built his in "30 minutes TV Show" time....I might just be a tad slower....maybe?

Got bored just sitting around...so...needed to saw a few blanks for the legs...

2 had split ends...needed these to be 20" long, more or less...decided to cut an extra blank..just in case..

I also moved the table top panel off of my tablesaw....going to need the saw...set up the rip fence,,twice.....

ran the 3 blanks through to get these 9 blanks...one extra might be a bread board end?

Will see if I can showcase that fancy grain on the legs....clamps,  glue, and a roll to spread the glue around..

4 legs...waiting on glue to dry....clean things up, tomorrow?

Decades ago I was instructed glue is "liberally applied to both surfaces. Clamp tightly to squeeze out excess". But it seems like a waste and makes a heck of a mess. Only now am I backing away from such mucilagatry extravagances. Do you apply a minimum, spread, and add if necessary?  Both surfaces? And this roller bit. Not your finger or a stick or small brush?

For really small jobs, my preference Is acid brushes from HF. Cheap enough to be disposable.  Some times the hairs come off into the glue job, though.  

A step up is the glue dish and brush from Rockler. Both items are some sort of soft, pliable plastic. Easily cleaned. Even after it's dried. For larger jobs, a short paint roller does the trick. But, I've not been successful in salvaging them after use. For laminations, a credit card trimmed with pinking shears works. If it's a bigger job, I use a 4"X4" notched plastic drywall mud applicator. At least. I think that's it's intended use.

I aim for minimal squeeze out but, I want some. Bahco makes some excellent glue scrapers. A straight bladed one and, a triangular one. Both carbon steel. Those blades last a long time.

I learned the hard way not to wipe away squeeze out with a wet rag.

I've got a Bahco card scraper; usually (if I'm around) I remove clamps 15-60 minutes out and scrap the excess while it is still softish. The CC / library cards I've used sans pinking shears; when visiting AZ I'll ask EXMO for a pair; she's got tons of sewing stuff (great idea, Gene - I've just messaged her; there is a drawer of 'stuff' she's been putting aside for me; bet the shears are in the drawer before I get to Lewes Delaware!).

 

As in caulking, I've tried to use dry cloths, or dampened and wrung out almost to barely damp. The scraping, that's my favorite. I wondered how usual the roller was, and because Steve's squeeze out seems so minimal.
