Still working on backsplashes. Should finish today....hopefully. That'll make Phyl happy. No happier than I, though. 

Patio and porch should be painted sometime this weekend. 20 gal. of paint and all the attendant gear has been waiting on the patio for 2 weeks. Gravel for driveways and other spots due at around 08:00 tomorrow. By late Sunday, all the contracted work should be done. It's only been about three months since the slabs were poured but, it seems like 3 years.

Made a supply run last night.

 

Got a couple brake jobs to do Gunny?  Or just filling up some space vacated by cans of paint?

 

As for myself, time to start thinking about taxes... Supposed to be rainy, so that's an inside project for me.

Yep definitely shoveling the snow off the driveway today.  We got 6 inches of snow in total yesterday.  There is even more on the way later this afternoon and into tonight.  So yea got to shovel the driveway since its too cold to do any sort of wood work outside for long periods of time today.  Oh well.  Besides I've got a perfect piece of Douglas Fir cut to make a wooden egg out of.

 

 

 

I hate snow....have about 5-6" on the porch railings....yuck

 

 

Somehow I lost a day this week....thought today was Thursday

 

Might see about building them cabinet doors.....shop is in the basement of the house, at least.   20 cloudy degrees outside....about 40 degrees too cold.

Something different for me.  Thinking of making some domino trays for friends with oak, maple, hickory and cherry scraps.  I'll try using the 3/8 setting from my box joint cutter set for the dados and play a bit with the angle.  Rather than moving the fence, I'll try moving the pieces by stacking 3/8 strips against the fence as spacers.  

Today is finishing up the laminating for the 120 ceiling tiles. They are stacked everywhere in the shop. This weekend the weather is changing to rain so it will be an indoor weekend. The shop is trashed from all the milling so that is first on the agenda. We will see how far beyond that I get.

I made one of these for cutting strips the same thickness, multiple times

 

Set the "point" of the jig for the strip thickness measured from the LEFT side of the saw blade. After each cut, slid the rip fence left to position the material against the point and do the next cut. I've seen similar jigs with a ball bearing instead of a point- I'm cheap.

 

Going to take the finished cherry bowl to the tree guys who gave me the log-

Wow, you all are very busy! I'll be doing some Honey Do's around the home this weekend, we have a long weekend, Monday off for some President dude. I have every Friday off for our 10/40 work week, so these traditional 3 day weekends become 4 day weekends for me and my mates at work!

Getting ready this morning to head to the derm doc, they gonna cut out some skin cancer and pre cancer spots, take care of them now so they don't become serious later. Working outdoors my entire life here in Southern CA, and as a kid beach bumming during the years sunblock didn't exist unless you were under something, took it's toll and gave me some cruddy skin.

 

My son and I may go shooting tomorrow if the wind doesn't come up out in the desert, then Sunday gotta make mama happy, don't forget folks, Valentines Day! Monday off, between all that I want to get something done with Lignum, if the Lignum gods are kind.

 

At my day job, yesterday we ran levels to the top of bridge, the bridge falsework (support for construction) is almost complete and the iron workers are up there laying steel, the project will run through this summer, oh boy, another wonderful summer full of 115 degree high humidity Salton Sea weather!

I have a Porter-Cable router table.   I didn't ever use it much as I found it hard to use and cumbersome to set up.   A guy in the ww club is downsizing and wanted to get rid of his router table.  I scored on this one.  In addition to just having to buy one, it was assembled, came with two feather boards and he'd put an external power switch on it.   Yippee!  A new toy tool. Looking forward to using it.

 

A tale of Torx.

 

This week, my wife wanted to take a cover off one of her sewing machines do to some lubrication.   She came to me and said the screws were sort of "star shaped" and wondered if I had such a thing.  I said probably and she said, "Is there any tool you don't have?"   I went and got my kit and darn, the smallest in it was a T20.  Looked like it needed a T15.  Back to the tool box to look for the bits that I carry for my drill/driver.  Nope, nothing that small there, either.   I started to look online to see if I could just buy one, then I remembered that I had another drawer of driver bits in the shop.   Brought it up and had both a short and a long T15 that fit in my multi-bit driver.  Hah.  I guess I do have a lot of tools.

Pretty much any size will work. That might be a little overkill

A idler pulley for a Toyota V6 timing belt. Will last forever. You couldn't abuse it enough to require replacement.

Still removing old cracked mortar.  Just as soon as this wind dies down, will point and tuck, hoping that it won't dry out the replaced mortar too quickly.

 

John Morris, Feb. 22 when I was a child was known as George Washington's birthday.  And, we didn't take off for Lincoln's birthday on Feb. 16.  Sometime, in the late 1960's they combined all presidents birthdays into the same day as Washington's birthday.  The first time I knew of Washington's birthday, I got up and dressed, walked to school, 1/4 mile south of my residence (Flint Springs School) and no one was at school.  So, I turned around and looked at the church and cemetery and no one was anywhere.  So, I went home and told my grandmother.  She became angry and went to a neighbor who told her that it was a holiday for George Washington.  Well, I read my reading book and wrote my numbers before going out into the fields to assist with the project at hand.  A brief aside, George was born before the Gregorian calendar was put into American practice.  He was actually born on Feb. 11 of the Julian calendar.  He never accepted the Feb. 22 birthdate.
