Fred, you are so right! Thinking about strategically parking the vehicles. Also, considering a portable toilet for the shop.

Thanks, Cal. It was a cooperative effort. 

I forgot to grab some pix of these.  Needed something to do so I made some "apple crates" AKA "handy crates" for the furniture bank.   They can either use to distribute small stuff or give them out for storage, toting groceries, shoe rack, or "rustic" end tables.  Used my "handy handle jig" to route out the handholes.  Not fine furniture, but kept me busy.

 

Just a follow up here.  I talked with Jess and Bernadette on Monday afternoon.  They had lost power for maybe 6 hours Sunday afternoon but it was restored about midnight.  His water pipes were froze up.  Other than that they were in good spirits...  That was Monday, and I see that he hasn't been back on so it may be that power was lost again.

 

I hope all of you are prepared for this next blast of winter.  And I hope those things beyond your control (like the power grids) hold up.

The Texas power grid, of which windmills play a huge part, wasn't designed for this winter. Have read reports that not only the windmills froze and became inoperable, it got too cold for the Butane and natural gas generators to operate a well below capacity....if at all. 

That's interesting. I watched the stories about the TX power grid and was actually really surprised. My flawed thinking was that the cold weather wouldn't over load it any more than the searing heat in the summer. Shows what I know.

It sounds like the name calling and finger pointing has already begun.  I wonder what the typical, affected, Texan thinks about the former governor's statement - to the effect that most Texans would rather go without power for a few days than be forced to comply with federally mandated standards for the power grid... were I sitting in the cold, dark, no water; I know what I would be thinking.

You know, I just heard on last night's news that the state owned the power grid. That was a big surprise to me, I was unaware of that. I'm sure at some point someone thought it was a genius move, but honestly I seldom see a government agency doing something better than private industry. But you're right, it does look like the blame game and finger pointing has started.
