I've been putting the new lathe through its paces. Continuing to work on Christmas bowls. The inside of each is turned and sanded. Now removing the tenon and finishing up the bottom.

 

 

 

 

 

One of the turnings is destined to become a lidded vessel. The maple blank is roughed out and affixed to a glue block using a paper joint. 

 

 

Once it is finished, everything will get a mineral oil/beeswax finish.

 

 

Safe turning

 

Another action packed week.  Once I get done setting up my wife's new laptop I will have some time to go through it all.  

Nice post Lew. After seeing some of those ornaments maybe we should have our own challenge @John Morris . Wish I could get a hold of that much walnut. Maybe soon we found a sawmill connection down the road.

As always, Lew, some really great posts and videos.  The Christmas ornaments kept me spell bound for awhile.  

 

Also, Lew, thanks for the honorable mention on my last minute creation.  I have some modifications to try.  Will let you know how it turns out.  It may be piece of firewood.  

 

Love that new lathe.  Do those large jaws not hold sufficiently?  I saw strapping tape to hold on one bowl.

New lathe is getting a workout.  Your bowls look great.  A lot went on this week.  Guess it is finally cold and time for everyone to move into the warmth of the shop.  Thanks for this weeks recap.  Sure is nice to see what everyone is doing.

@Gerald Thank You! It saddens me to say that too much of the local walnut is used for firewood, around here.

 

@FlGatorwood Thanks! And, thanks for posting your turning for us to see. That particular bowl shape didn't have much contact with the rubber bumpers. The tape is just an additional safety measure.

 

@HandyDan Thank You! It's hard to describe how much nicer it is to use this new lathe compared to the old Delta!
