Posting a little early today before things get busy with company.

Our Patriot Turners-

@HandyDan has started making Christmas presents for the kids at the Akron Children's Hospital.

Dan turns presents every year for the kids there. He is certainly securing his place in heaven! Please check out his post and give him your kudos for his work

@Ron Altier asked us how we store our lathe chuck keys. Several of our turners have chimed in with their methods. I think @Jim from Easy Wood Tools probably spoke for most of us! Check out Ron's post and tell us how you do it!

@Smallpatch posted a really cool picture of the "Russian Dolls". Those hollow dolls that have those progressively smaller versions stacked inside. We also found a video showing how they are manufactured. Lots of interesting tools and processes in the video

Check it out!

A couple of years ago, @Gerald started a thread on sandpaper costs. Recently there has been some activity, on that post, that includes information of interest to turners. @Kevin Beitz commented on a different sanding technique. He also asked a question on scraper sharpening. Check out Kevins comments and question and offer any suggestion you may have-

What’s Coming Up-

For those turners in Florida, mark your calendars for this event-

For The Newbies-

With the holidays fast approaching, here's a spindle type, ornament turning from Mike Peace. This would make a great gift!

Expand Your Horizons-

I do not have the gift of being able to draw anything (other than flies). Many times I would like to be able to see what a turning would look like before commiting a piece of wood. Here is some software that lets you draw a turning, then view it in any position. The software is free and works on Windows PCs.

The software downloaded from-

New Turning Items-

Not sure how long this has been available. I thought it might be something the turners, who do segmented turnings, would find useful.

TiteBond Translucent glue-

"TITEBOND TRANSLUCENT WOOD GLUE

Titebond Translucent Wood Glue is designed for general household and woodworking projects. It provides a virtually invisible glue line and bonds stronger than the wood. A strong tack and fast speed of set helps reduce clamp time. When dry, this wood glue is unaffected by finishes and sands easily. Also ideal for craft projects, Titebond Translucent is easy to use, non-toxic and cleans up with water. It is specifically designed for wood, particleboard, hardboard, leather, cloth and most other porous materials."

Everything Else-

Tim Yoder recently added a cool video where he made a lamp from bowling items. Check out Tim's use of our sponsor- Easy Wood Tools- products!

Mike Peace has a video demonstrating turning a pendant. What's especially cool about this project is that Mike shows us how to create shop made offset adapters for a scroll chuck.

Safe turning

Great post Lew.  Seems everyone is all of a sudden turning bowling balls but I have to say Tim Yoder sure came up with a fun project making that lamp.  Thanks for posting.

Thanks Lew...   really enjoy working with Tim Yoder

Another good one and now more videos to watch

Nice post @lew, another action packed few days to catch up on it all.

I will pass on the bowling ball thingy though.  Pins in my arm and wrist started vibrating the moment I said oh, cool.  :JawDrop:

Sorry, just getting back to here-

@HandyDan Thanks! I can just imagine how much damage one of those bowling balls could cause if they broke loose!

@Jim from Easy Wood Tools Thank You! I'll bet he's a real character!!

@Gerald Thanks!

@Woodbutcherbynight Thank You! At least the thing would start out round but from there...

Just caught this one.  Thanks, Lew.  Got some videos to watch on rainy days.  Can't wait.  Better than housekeeping and cooking, any day.
