February 21, 20197 yr Author Popular Post Ok...the good news. Lost my wedding ring last night....found it this morning! Cardio Doctor visit today? Clean bill of health, "see ya in 6 months, no med changes needed""...also was weighed in...and have lost 14 pounds!Sooo, after an Old Fart Power nap....decided to do a little assembly.. Tools needed? Couple of drills. needed a layout block, to show where a pilot hole or two went.. Flip board around, drill the other hole...then the countersink drill.. Then do the same on the other end of the frame. Add a bead of glue to one end, and drive a couple screws... Frames are lined up in their layout lines i made the other day. Driver? With those kickers overhead, there isn't a lot of room. Also, make sure all the kickers are towards to bottom of the case. I worked with the rebate for the back towards me.. As the frames need to be flush with the back.... Like this. Finally got one side assembled... Hmmm, then the fun part. This assembly needed to move off the "work table". The other side needed to take it's place, with the rebate towards me...then a bead of glue was spread onto all the frames, hoist the assembly onto the other side....and line things up, one frame at a time, and screw them down..then add a few clamps to hold things tight.. And let this sit awhile.... Stay tuned..

That is all good news...especially finding your ring otherwise the doctor's report may not have been as good. As for losing 14 pounds, no worries, I found it this morning for you. February 22, 20197 yr Author Popular Post Getting ready to try to cut a panel for the back of the case.....anyone want to stop by and help out..... Might also involved attaching it, and squaring up the case...face frame may wait until tomorrow

February 23, 20197 yr Author Popular Post Ok....After a nice long break after we got home, today...decided to get a little work done... . Clamps removed...had to set this aside...for now...brought a panel to the shop, to trim for the back panel.. Hmmm, had enough trouble getting this down to the shop...can't run it on the tablesaw...Piece needs to be 26" x 40" and leave enough for two drawer bottoms.. So..snapped a chalk line at 26" with the 26" ON the saw... And clamped the panel to the saw....making sure I had some clearance underneath.... Had to track down a e-cord for the saw...then chalked a line at 40" and cut that as well....Ready to install. Got this thing onto the bench... Yep, that is all the support I could get....bead of glue along one edge, and about halfway onto the webframes. 1-1/8" screws to attach just one edge...marked where the webframes are, spun this around, pulled the case into square ( 1/8" out) and finished all the screws, after a bead of glue was added to the second edge..set this thing up... Little clamp because a split showed up...glue and clamped. Wasn't quite done, for the day.. . Hmmm wonder where those are coming from... Must be something going on.... I had the top rail ripped for width...Don't think a router can do this...called a half dovetail...got both ends to fit..finally...And added a few clamps, and some glue.. and let this sit awhile...a look at the outside, minus the clamps? Kind of clean looking? Details? Not too plain, not too fancy? Detail of the dovetail.... Done for to day? Well....had the shop coat and shop apron to stick into the washer ( might be a little "gamey"?) so, I cut 4 corner blocks, and installed those... NOW, I am done for one day. Stay tuned....
February 23, 20197 yr Popular Post Nice work Steve. Just throwing this out there. Ever had or thought about trying a extension cord reel? Even homemade wind up one does wonders. I have one you cannot remove from shop. So you KNOW where the bloody thing is. If you want one I probably have a extra in my supply.
February 23, 20197 yr Author Have one, keep tripping on the dang thing...used the one from the Christmas Inflatables, as it isn't needed out there...maybe 15'....reel has about a 100' on it...

February 23, 20197 yr Author Popular Post Hauled 2 boards to the shop, today, Price tag says they are from New Zealand! Clear, straight PineNeeded to cut them to length, but... Can't even get to the tablesaw, let alone either of the miter saws....corner block? Need to drill a slotted hole in each, to attach the top. Now, about cutting 6' long 1 x 2? A folding, toolbox style mitre box, by GEM...takes about any type of saw... Including a little D8 Panel saw. had to clamp the wider apron stock in place, though.. Needed a trim...when done, it folds back up, and fits in a drawer. Saw goes back on the peg on the til.. All cut to length...next, a dovetail... A dovetail bit to set the angle, bevel gauge to repeat the angle...bandsaw to cut.. These four were the easy ones....that wider one had a few extra cuts... Ok...while looking for a better way to chop all them sockets....happened to find a Plan B.. Open the top all the way out, clean it off.... And we have a Work Mate Joinery Bench..hammer and chisel to do a bit of chopping.. Had to keep moving the clamp, until I got one edge done...rotate this mess around, and start back up the other side Chopping these things as I went... Would rather they stand a bit proud, and sit too low...I can plane/sand them flush. C clamps and glue...at least for some.... Until I ran out out C clamps....will wait for the glue to dry, then glue and clamp the rest.... Stay tuned
February 24, 20197 yr Popular Post When I first looked at the saw, it appeared to be smoking, but it must have been left over from you heating it up.
February 24, 20197 yr Author Popular Post Nah, saw plate is just way too shiny and clean....handy little saw, though. Glue cured, glued down the rest of the rails last night....and ran the cove bit around.. Even the feet.. This morning, all the clamps came off, other than the one holding the case to the Work Mate...had a few that needed attention.. We have ways.....beltsander, junior jack plane, #3c, palm sander... Same rail Feet needed sanded... A little rough? Happen to have a curve sander... Time to set the case onto the floor, clean out the very messy insides... And put the Work Mate away....may try to glue up a top panel for this, after lunch... Then get a start on some drawers? Only 5 of those to build..... So..stay tuned
February 24, 20197 yr Popular Post Awesome work, steve. Emphasis on WORK. Dovetail drawers? Need I ask? That chest is going to be a heirloom, for sure.

February 26, 20197 yr Author Popular Post Top was cut to size, jointed, and glued up last night... Monday, or no Monday, got bored sitting around...so, plan was to just remove the clamps...that WAS the plan.. Even cleared of the bench...Then..set the top back on the bench....and then this appeared on it.. Got it almost centered...installed 4 screws....I also had drilled 4 slotted holes in the corner blocks...Got this back off my bench, somehow.. Trimmed one end for square, then trimmed this edge to match... Front corners got a bit "curvy", beltsander to shape ( back corners got a dime size corner) beltsanded the top flat and almost smooth.. Then ran that cove bit all the way around the top....should have stopped here...that 1 x 6 back there? Thought I could at least find two blanks for 25" wide drawer fronts...other 1 x 6? Nada... Pick of the litter. Even got out a couple handles, to see how they would look.. Not too bad? Well, since the router was still out... Both got a cove, once I figured out which was the best face...then an old plough plane.. Was made back about 1864, or so...had a job for it to do.. Drawers need a groove for the bottom panel to sit in.. Again, could have stopped here...but.. Ends of the fronts need a 1/2" wide rebate...about 3/8" deep...backsaw to make a cut, mallet and chisel to remove the waste ( cove is on the other side of the board, making it look thin) For this to be a 3/4 Overlay drawer....the top edge also needed a rebate...I don't think I can use these tools for that...so.. wards #78. Seemed to work... Even right through a big, old knot. Was about ankle deep.. Decided that was enough for a Monday....swept this mess up, hung up the shop apron...and called it a day... Stay tuned...
