I haven't been around much this week, @steven newman, and just saw the post about your mother. Please accept my condolences.

Soooo, had to bring the glue bottle upstairs, this morning....too cold in the shop, today...-6 outside.

C clamps are removed, how about a PIP?

View from the front....and..

View from the end.  Just glue holding the book rest in place....need to make a bunch of plugs and install them, before the stain goes on..

topper.jpg.21d9415c39a40f12934a1cc6feae9243.jpg

Thinking of adding this "topper" at the back edge....Need to add a strip to the left edges of the lid....

As there is no overhang on this end.....IF the shop warms up...and Tuesday gets here...

I like that idea...flows well with the book rest and interrupts the long back edge. Good classical touch.

Got a little bit done...clamps came off a bit ago...lid now has an overhang on the left side.    Accent piece on the top has been glued in place...came in handy...

dividers.jpg.b96ed43766622d30db66d8ed83182219.jpg

While I made and glued in a couple dividers.   Top one is for between the drawers, bottom to support the middle.   Notebooks  have a place to slide into.

Closed the lid, plugs needed to be installed..

plugs.jpg.c88b1abb684bd1d3e7330b0d414532e8.jpg

And, you can see the add-ons to get the overhang...Pop a plug out with a screwdriver blade, bead of glue on the narrow end..

installed.jpg.0b03b0129bb968b1151f7d3a54fe6bf4.jpg

Hammer to tamp each down tight....then come back and trim flush..

trimmed.jpg.74a08c553f886d6afed95adad316e3db.jpg

And allow to dry.  May go back and start on 2 drawers, after Supper....shop was a bit warm..

Stay tuned...

Better warm than the other way around...trust me on that.

Channels always on...good progress today though.

Drawers have been built....nottin fancy.....

1890620265_drawerstart.jpg.2f9a9b7769b1ea400f55168a98b65333.jpg

Lot of rip and cross cuts, test fits...trying to get the most out of the least..

Drawer fronts...these are 3/4" thick...the rest of the parts are not...

1/4" luann plywood for the bottoms, squares are for the sides, out of Poplar...had to resaw a 3/4" thick plank down to make the back.  Front has a few rebates, for the sides and bottom to nail to....just glue & nails...

Nailing end grain is harder than I thought...:BangingHead:

As long as the spot I was trying to nail was over the bench's leg...seemed to drive better...set the first one aside..

Then worked on the second drawer..

Really not much too these drawers.   Added a handle to each...

handles.jpg.5b532da5a1159675470a03fb7bab3053.jpg

I think that will do....close the lid..

590700862_closedup.jpg.7613fcb4c6cb4a6c764f9061a8d2b203.jpg

I have 4 plugs left to install...:ChinScratch:

914621565_noplugs.jpg.6c8000a7a59b3d98fc840f338a50f58c.jpg

Maybe a final sanding, then it is time for Stain and varnish....might make that weekend deadline, yet:Cheer:

Coming along nicely.  Thinking about making my own computer desk, will be borrowing some of what I have learned and seen done.

Only areas that will show.  Brush on the Minwax Dark Walnut stain....working on a section at a time, then put the brush down, and wipe the excess stain off, then move and repeat.

Trying to figure out which light settings I need...as things are not quite this "red"

1788248972_redlined.jpg.020fe9d587f6185822250474b40dace7.jpg

Still needs a coat or two of Clear Gloss Poly....and a camera expert to do the photo shoot...

Almost done...stay tuned...

That is some kinda nice right there Steven.  Definitely a keeper!

As always nice work  Steve.

Beautiful.  Sets the tone for the rest of the year.  Gonna have to work hard to outdo yourself on next one.:JawDrop:

Be warned..Daughter has a few "little thins" she wants built....by spring....As for this desk...finish is done, awaiting transport to Huber Heights, OH....

1709418716_topviewofadesk.jpg.de3a6f30e562b5e0bbcdca6659459a56.jpg

Somehow, that book just seemed to fit this desk's style...

Could have put a railing along the top edge at the back....except those tend to get broken way too easily... pen/pencil tray seemed to come out about right..

436956056_penciltray.jpg.24ac19ff0faca4bdb805cb5c496c4f06.jpg

Probably see more Sharpies than pencils...

Think I'll call this done.   Vacation from the shop?   maybe a good clean up?   thanks for following along..

Nah, I like the looks of it as is...right proportion to the book ledge yet balances out the top.

I got to say Steven, of all the projects I've watched you build - this is my favorite.  Thank you very much for sharing so much of the build with us.
