the common cubit was indeed elbow to finger tip.  about 18" for most people.  but, the royal cubit was the common cubit PLUS one hand (width of you hand, not including your thumb, about 4" for most people), so that came out to about 22".

 

somewhat analogous to the Guinea in Britain.  it was a pound plus a shilling.  it was a way to quote prices for professional services, and add about 8% (12 shillings to a pound) without having to quote a larger sum in pounds.

So the "common cubit" must have been English or SAE while the Royal cubit, while English was not SAE so must have been the English metric...is that what you're saying?:WonderScratch:
