I get the migraines, lose the vision to the point of not driving. Only get them very infrequently, thank the Lord. I hope a couple of days sees you back in the swing of things.

You are doing great,Steven, I hate to tell you but that middle dovetail is a :ChinScratch:little fat.

Steve, I think your body & your computer are telling you that they need a little rest. Take care of yourself and take a couple days off.

Give this a try...had to lay out some tools, before I worked on the dovetails..

1456949765_toolkit.jpg.60d00f526d8f1403ae4c9b43f8104df5.jpg

Found out why that angle is cut like that on the bevel gauge...is the same angle I use for dovetail pins.   Was going to lay out spacing with the dividers, went a different way.   I came in from each end, and worked to the middle.   Blue knife to make a "knife line/wall".   Nice to stand the part up in the vise, both for lay outs..

1978715435_layoutwork.jpg.aef865a1a3a56a77751b50e7182f4379.jpg

And when it came time to us the "dovetail saw"

1913010925_dovetailsaw.jpg.2cea1c9b1d23d5f3797f90ffc3ee6e2d.jpg

I can drop things down to elbow level, makes sawing a bit easier.

Then a bit of chisel work   chop down about 1/2 way, leave a little for support

1951383854_firstchops.jpg.2254b856e9d7b3cd9d2de115ce3298ab.jpg

So when I flip this board over, and chop from the other side..

2089812748_chopsdone.jpg.a53e63c5cb3650fd15e7fe2250a91edb.jpg

There isn't any tear out going on the other side.   Stand this thing up, onto a desk side, making sure I had the correct side, and use those pins and a pencil, trace around each pin.  then the bandsaw makes a few cuts.....as I can see the cuts being made a lot easier...trying to leave the lines, cutting on the waste side

sawn.jpg.daecd564bf60bf797fcab471da6aae0c.jpg

A few extra cuts don't hurt, easier to get the chunks out...same as before 1/2 way from each face..

tails.jpg.1dbd1385eeb662428d148ddbc5eba0de.jpg

Then that dry fit..336716644_testforfit.jpg.1babff364723cf1e5a47db00a846c17b.jpg

A bit snug.  Can pare if need be...set this aside, while the other tails get chopped...

937214785_setaside.jpg.c6ca53b4c7febb9781c6a0d8dab2ded0.jpg

Since I had the pins already done....then I tried to do the front rail....got the pins done..

1014991062_frontpins.jpg.1439ab5f6da856ca29c3fb85b8962add.jpg

And this is where I had to stop....couldn't see much of what I was working on.   set the part down..

49061415_dryfit2(640x480).jpg.1d52f6b7ed53497eba340b320eb5179a.jpg

And closed the shop....stay tuned

That makes perfect sense now that you have validated it. It might make that bevel gauge even older than guessed. Pretty cool.

Now, take the weekend off and rest up...injuries can & will occur if you're not up to the task.

We'll still be here.

Brain is still working...:WonderScratch: I think.   Somehow, I have to come up with a 30+'' wide lid, about 11-1/2" or so wide...

Board I was going to use, with some fancy grain.....when I look along an edge, has a many waves as Indian Lake:ArguingSmileys: May save that for a top shelf, where the lid will hinge to :ChinScratch:

Will have about..30" left over, depending on the cuts...May split that down the middle, and see about a bread board edge to the lid:ph34r:  have a second plank to use....3/4" x 5-3/4" x 70"

May do the glue up with it...won't be as fancy looking:ChinScratch: but the top shelf and the BB ends should liven things up a bit..maybe

Letting the Single Brain Cell Sketch Up do all the work...other than getting a measurement  as needed.  :OldManSmiley:

We'll see....stay tuned to this Batty Channel, same Bat Time, same Bat Channel:Cheer:

Boredom is setting in..:BangingHead:..need to stay active.....cooped up in the house all day, ain't getting it.  :ArguingSmileys:   Head is a lot better, no longer spinning.  Eyes are back to normal.:BugEyeSmiley:

May SLOWLY finish those dovetails.:ChinScratch:..and go from there.  Have a few small items I can do.   pills have been taken, cough meds, too.   Rearend is tired of just sitting around...

Stay tuned....:DevilLaughing:

PS:  Anyone is welcome to stop by...you may get put to work, though..:o

Good to hear the headache is subsiding and vision is back to normal.

Needed to at least finish the dovetails on the front of the desk.....slowly..

882289362_firstcuts.jpg.e76ebe7b454705a7ba09840d705273be.jpg

Used the pins to lay these two out.  Bandsaw to make the cuts.   Mountain Dew had been left in the shop...thursday, might be a bit nasty:rolleyes:

Chisel and rawhide mallet to do half the chops...then flip this over, and finish the chops

695242141_secondchops.jpg.a8b8525125f484e9df4a69c48bea0950.jpg

Then a dry fit, or three:ChinScratch: until things fit.

1583736503_testfit.jpg.6ae4c5f7001225e01b51982aaeed37e3.jpg

Took a few...then repeat for the other end.   At least I can sit down and do this stuff:TwoThumbsUp:

Got both ends done...dry fit the entire mess..

Oh, you want to see the side? Hmmm

1039370482_sideview.jpg.a246e9c9fd236a06ff29b197e946899d.jpg

Clamped to keep this sitting still, while I marked a few thins for size

799479285_drawerbase.jpg.3466d2a639d2a16df41a817afa9eab1d.jpg

This will be for the drawers to slide on.   Need a dado for it to sit in...as soon as I get the sizes of the drawers.

Drawer parts...had a few 1 x6s, bandsaw to rip those down the middle...

790143740_drawerparts.jpg.3b7f80d7d9c07de2b4e3d82ab190f45c.jpg

Need to change the bandsaw blade to that 1/2" wide one,  then resaw these down to 3/8" thick parts.

Pencil well...got parts set out..

747121761_pencilholders.jpg.8a744861633d29a2758c207a52b90595.jpg

Router can run a couple grooves with a cove bit, center block will be left alone....Have a thin strip to go behind these..

1791658072_IMG_7342(640x480).jpg.3805a29eb85e8a46ec739b9e58178c0d.jpg

Needs a dado to house both ends.  Nails and glue to attach to the pencil well.

Other than getting the dados done, might be getting close to a glue up?

Stay tuned....1 hour at a time:OldManSmiley:

If I was closer, you bet I would; 8 hour round trip makes it a little tough; that is until you banned me for loping off a dovetail or something...

An aside note: if you are kept for observation rather than admitted, the hospital can bill you for all charges and insurance and medicare can refuse payment.  Just want everyone to be aware so you can ask the question if this comes up again.  Steven, I hope you recover quickly and completely.  Also, I hope you are not stuck with a large hospital bill.  You are on my prayer list.

Oh, I was admitted.   And a bunch of tests done, they were thinking a light stroke.....T.I.A. thingy....

Update on Mom:  Not good, not eating, needs O2 to breathe....they are just keeping her comfortable....
