May 18, 20242 yr Author Popular Post "Wir haben zu arbeiten" 9 frames are done.. Once the first dry fit was done.. Decided to go ahead and install these into Side #1... Keeping things squared across..drive the screw at the back first.. and work my way along.. Until I got here...then the real fun began....remove this from the assembly table..place side #2 on the table..then install all them frames into Side#2..glue and screws.. Then stand it up on it's own 4 feet.. Next trip to the shop? add the back to square the case up. There are 2 pieces to glue to the front, yet.. one across the bottom, and a smaller one up at the top.. Start time today? 0855hrs...quitting time? 1145hrs.. Been a very busy morning... Stay tuned..

May 18, 20242 yr Author Popular Post Sometimes known as Ve Haft verk to do....German. Almost 3 hours IN the shop, today....anything else can wait until tomorrow, I think...
May 19, 20242 yr Author Some Dummy decided he didn't have enough abuse for one day...and snuck off to the shop.. He was last seen carrying a 1 x 2 x 4' stick..too Seems I needed a few filler strips..cross cut the 4 footer down...top filler needed ripped as it was too tall... This serve 2 items...a place to attach the top of the plywood back (easier to find) and...diagonal corner braces connect this to the case's side...then a slot is drilled in the braces, and I used a screw through that slot to attach the Top to the case..I also added an Ash filler up front.. Will sand and level nice and smooth, to blend it in... There is a Pine strip for down at the bottom.. For when I can flip the case over....and, there is an Ash one.... That will need glue blocks behind it.. Today's "schedule"? Cut the back panel to size, glue and screws to install..LONG clamp to pull into square, IF needed ( always is..) Supposed to get up into the mid 80s, today...I might just hide out in the shop... Stay tuned..
May 20, 20242 yr Author Popular Post Ok..2 hours on a Sunday, in the shop....hauled this downstairs to the shop.. Will need trimmed for size, as soon as I figure out what that is to be... First off..I needed the pine filler installed, the one at the bottom of the back of the case... Glue and 4 counter bored screws..then marked the plywood for length and width... Cut a few corner braces.. Glue and a few more screws..and an assist from a clamp, to pull them in tight. These are to get a slot milled in them, to attach the Top of the case in place..slots allow the top to have a bit of wood movement as the weather changes.. Set this out of the way for a bit.. Cross cut the plywood for length...width? Needed about that much peeled off one edge.. About the width of 2 saw blades...then clear off the top of the tablesaw.. Plan here, was to install one edge into a bed of glue, and get it all screwed down,,,Had to make a mark at each Frame's center...as I can't see through plywood... That done, had to spin the case 180...place a 3/4" Pipe Clamp and pull the case into square-ness..was just under 1/4" out...then screw this side off as well..THEN that step stool got used.. I used a BIG square to reach across and line up with those marks I made..come out about 12-13" and install a screw..in each location..other than the top and bottom fillers.. Fun part was setting this thing back down on the floor..had a fancy Ash filler to install..so I just set the case down on it top..There was a problem, though.. As this sort of thing just will not do...tossed it out..cut a new one that DID fit Glue and screws, again.. 4 counter bored holes? the reason for the 5th? pilot hole drill bit snapped off just below the surface,, Replaced that...and added the corner blocks,,,and a couple extra screws...bad luck still going on... Arrow points to a split, being repaired...even though I pre-drilled the hole..so now I have to wait on that to cure.. So... Park every thing over there, out of the way..Quitting Time! heard an ICE COLD Guinness Extra Stout calling me name.. Stay tuned..
May 20, 20242 yr Popular Post Don't you just hate it when you drill and still get those splits. Great follow along and now to bed.
May 20, 20242 yr Author Popular Post "Fetch & Carry" is an old term from the English Army...what we would call a "Work Detail"....where you were to go Fetch items, and carry them for units NOT on Work Detail.... So..part of today's tasks, was to Fetch & Carry planks to the shop...fist batch was cut up into blanks for 8 drawer fronts.. And some (most) needed resawn down to 3/4" thick...saw doesn't quite reach all the way.. This will have to be removed...2nd trip? Was these 2 planks..which were then sawn up to make.. 4 blanks to make a panel for the Top of the case.. Needed to put away a lot of stuff, though.. To have room to run the Jointers.. At this point, I decided to call it.. Sweep up and Quitting time! Was getting too hot in the shop.. Stay tuned..

May 21, 20242 yr Author Popular Post 0855 start time, this morning....quitting time was 0955hrs... Still cooling down at the moment....while doing the Photo Edit stuff...busy day, this morning? yeah , you could say that... Started with these...until.. Dry fitted...then.. We have Glue Up! Next? Have 6 blanks to clean up and level..this is a "Before", and.. This is an After... The last of those 6 blanks was .."special" You can also see the first 5 that were done...why is #6 standing up? I was getting too tired, to plane all of that off....we have ways.. THEN I can lay it down, and finish it up.. Had a spot right about there..that needed planed down level... Drawer front #7 and #8? Didn't need much done to them... Waiting on glue to cure, so I can have the Tablesaw back...have 8 fronts to turn into Raised Panels...THEN see about drawer sides, and the drawer backs...oh, and...add Bread Board ends to the glued up top... Going to be a bit busy...will need to take a few "Breaks" along the way.. Stay tuned..

May 21, 20242 yr Author Popular Post Yep, shop screws up more things before 0900, than most do in a week... Plan right now....is to get that glued up panel OFF of my Tablesaw....and get the Tablesaw set up to raise panels...on those 8 drawer front "Fetch & Carry" tomorrow? I have 4 planks of Pine..3/4" x 4" x 8' to haul to the shop....and the shop's ceiling is...~7'? Could get rather interesting? Will see IF the shop has cooled down, later tonight.. Stay tuned..
May 22, 20242 yr Popular Post Thanks Bandit for the great build-a-long so far. Nice retreat to follow when I'm not mowing, weedeating and other not fun projects. As our sponsor says, "without wood, it's only work."
May 22, 20242 yr Author Popular Post Late night..shop had cooled down.. So..I made a mess on the floor.. Tilt the blade to 15 degrees...add the Zero Clearance Overlay...set the fence 3/8" away from the "bottom" of the saw blade... Turned this into Raised Panel Drawer Fronts...as for the drawer at the bottom of the case.. Opening was a bit smaller than the others...this was ripped to width BEFORE all the raised panel work... stay tuned..
May 22, 20242 yr Author Popular Post Late start this morning..back to Fetch & Carry, again.. Pine, 1 x 4 x 8'.....when my 5'10-1/2" frame has to duck to get down the shop's stairs...2 planks was about enough, for one trip.. Before I could use the saw to cross cut...I had to "Un-Bevel" the blade.. Back to 90 degrees..need 16 parts, about 18" long, or so..cutting around a few knots..and winding up with these shorties.. That I could use on a future Project..anyway.. This is what those 2 planks gave me...had to trudge back upstairs, and Fetch & Carry the other 2 planks..and see how it goes.. All 16 sides have been fitted...bottom drawer needed skinnier sides.. So..these 2 were then ripped for width..managed to get most of the knots off.. IF I do head to the shop this evening (too HOT right now) it will involve this thing..again.. I will still need a plank or 3 , to make backs for the drawers...right now, I will be doing half blind dovetails up front.. Stay tuned... Edited May 22, 20242 yr by steven newman

May 23, 20242 yr Author Popular Post Decided to use the tablesaw one more time... Unable to clamp the drawer fronts to the edge of the bench, in order to use the Stanley #45 to plough a groove for the drawer bottoms..due to the beveled edges...I set up the tablesaw to do the same grooves..in 2 passes.. Forgot to take the Phone/Camera along..was only to be a set-up trip....I guess I could go back to the shop, but the tablesaw is now put away...and the router table has been brought out..will set that up, tomorrow... We'll see.....
