Problem is I keep finding stuff that could be used but would require a change in the plan. That pair of 16x20" oak framed leaded glass cabinet doors just might work if I turn them 90°, and use them front, and back.
May 7, 20242 yr Author Popular Post Had a wee bit of time IN the shop, today..tried to get ready to mow the yard, weedeater to get it low enough that the Mower wouldn't bog down..when it started to rain. So..made the usual mess in the shop.. Not all that much...Had to fine tune the rebates on 8 raised panels..as soon were a bit FAT.. And would not let the rails slide on all the way, without binding...so.. Clamped the panel to the vise, and run the Craftsman No. 3720 along, until the rail slides on.. Decided(since my back was hurting) to try a dry fit, once all the panels were done...inside view? What those 8 drawers will see...and A view of the outside. IF I get any shoptime tomorrow.. Would be to chop another 9 mortises for Stile #3..and get this ready for Glue & Clamps... The raised part of the panels needed a bit of work, too.. Trying the smooth out the high spots and ridges... Stay tuned..
May 9, 20242 yr Author Popular Post Plan last night..was to haul a stack of supplies TO the shop, and bring up the load of clothes from the dryer..THAT part of the Plan was done..however.. I also sat down...and completed the Mortises for Stile #3..and a dry fit.. To see IF this thing is going to be square...I also marked those parts as to Inside or Outside... BTW..frame is 42-5/8" tall by 18-1/2" wide...then later, add the top... Bottom Rail where it meets the feet.. So..the "Plan" for today? Is to get all of these ready to be assemble into that frame...and MAYBE a glue-up MIGHT occur? Dry clothes in the the hamper...used the Hamper like a walker to get back upstairs..and then a Tonic & Gin before bedtime..last night..was a very BUSY day, yesterday Stay tuned Edited May 9, 20242 yr by steven newman
May 9, 20242 yr Author Popular Post Film @2300hrs...but. . I am sitting here, picking dried glue off'n me fingers...and getting ready for a ... B EE RR U N, in a wee bit...all those panels and rails have been planed and sanded smooth..on the Show Side...inside? Not so much... Have to report the death of one Black Widow Spider....it got into an argument with my sander...did not end well for the spider.. Stay tuned...have to run to WAll E World...
May 10, 20242 yr Author Popular Post The "Before" Cleaned up, burn marks and saw mark to be remove, ridges where the bevels meet the field.. And the after.. Same board...was also sanded to 180 grit...now...repeat for the other 7 panels... Stash those aside..have 9 rails to get ready, too.. Decide which "face" looked the best..and this wasn't one of them..we have ways.. And follow with a sander to 180 grit... Set up one stile in the jig...with the best face towards me...then add glue to each tenon, insert into a mortise...Raised panel is next, with a small dab of glue centered in the groove..repeat the above until.. The fun can begin ( and the cussing) add glue where needed, and start to install the other Stile down onto the tenons....with the usual "Hammer assist"..add a few clamps.."adjust a couple rails" until they drop into their mortises..add more clamps..rag to remove any glue runs.. Add a few more clamps to center up the rails with the stile.. And, call it a morning...Friday? Need to start work on these 2.. Mortises need chopped, feet sawn out..then the Panels and Rails need prepped..Sunday glue-up? Stay tuned..
May 10, 20242 yr Author Popular Post Had 2 more hours in the shop, today...film @2300hrs...right now, it is.. Beer-Thirty...trying to perfect that "Perfect pour"...might take more than one try? Side #1 is out of the clamps.. And I worked on Side #2.. Both stiles are done... 2 hours in the shop..this can wait until tomorrow.. Had 28 photos to edit down... Stay tuned
May 10, 20242 yr Author Popular Post Feet details.. Good thing these are the INSIDE of both Stiles.. And maybe the WebFrames will take care of these... First dry fit.. Wasn't too hateful? Some of the Mortises were down right.. But..the tenon don't care.. Bit of glue, and it will be fine... Tools used today...USED.. 10mm Mortise Chisel, 8mm "Pry Bar ( to clean out the chips) and a Hyper Tough Mallet.. Digging a hole.. 4 whacks, 4 spots...2 trips along the Mortise..then clean things out. Repeat 17 times.. Moving the stile along as needed...( working way too hard, for a Friday) Some were a might too tight.. . Stile does have slight bow...will pull in when the WebFrames are installed.. One stile done..one to go..Pee Break...Haul the Shop Cat upstairs...come back and chop stile #2...until.. The LAST rail is fitted...Tried a rail and panel dry fit.. Fat Panels, again....will save this for tomorrow.. Then...I also Mowed the yard, today....May need to empty one more Guinness? Stay tuned

May 11, 20242 yr Author Popular Post On another woodworking site...there was a Complaint. About how I am not doing Photo Studio quality Photos, and posting too many that show the shop in the background, and too "Cluttered".. The "Response"? "I run a woodworking shop, NOT a Photo Studio" "What you see is what you would see IF you were there, looking over my shoulder." Lumber run, this morning..need to stock up on some pine...drawer sides, drawer runners, drawer backs....and some 1/4" plywood panels...Boss says I have a "Budget" of $100 to spend on the lumber...will do that, while the back isn't sore...instead of after 90 minutes of hand plane use.. Stay tuned..
