Popular Post steven newman Posted May 11, 2024 Author Popular Post Report Posted May 11, 2024 Shop Start Time: 1300hrs Shop Quitting Time: 1520 hrs.. Results? The inside view of Side #2, and.. Tools used today (besides a BIG Mallet) And a couple sanders... had 8 raised Panels to clean up and fitted...and 9 rails needed cleaned up... Awaiting assembly..calm before the storm.. Some of those raised panels.... Needed quite a bit of work... Letting this sit overnight,,,start on Web Frame parts, tomorrow? Stay tuned.. Grandpadave52, Cal, Larry Buskirk and 4 others 6 1 Quote
Popular Post steven newman Posted May 12, 2024 Author Popular Post Report Posted May 12, 2024 Side #2 is out of the clamps! With Side #1 standing behind it...seemed to match each other fairly close.. These 2... Needed to be cross cut down to ~24" strong.. Got 4 blanks! and 2 like this.. Firewood? Those 4 blanks needed one straight edge. to run against the rip fence.. Set to 1-3/8" width...needed 9 blanks.. had to trash that curvy one...ripped a replacement form.. Saving these "leftovers" to use as "fillers" between the top rail and the top of the case, and below the bottom rail..both get glued in place, later. The 9 rails were way too thick...I needed 3/4", NOT 4/4....so.. Set up the peel the worst face off, and leave 3/4" behind.. All 9 are clamped up into a single block, right now..letting them get used to things after all that ripping going on.. Will need to get them all squared up, and cut to 23-7/8" long...the same as the 1/4" plywood's width. Plan? a 1/4" deep by 3/8" wide rebate down the back of the side's back stile...to house the plywood back...front rail will also have a 3/8" joint at each end..using a sliding dovetail.. Uses the same fence as the tablesaw, BTW. The pine runners (where the drawer slides on) will connect to the front and back rail, with Mortise & Tenons...tenons on the runners. A single screw, counter-bored a bit, will fix the back end in place, in a rail, NOT a panel.. Clear as Mudd? Stay tuned...could be a very busy week.. HARO50, lew, Larry Buskirk and 3 others 6 Quote

Popular Post steven newman Posted May 12, 2024 Author Popular Post Report Posted May 12, 2024 Laundry Detail, this evening.. Means I am down IN the shop...so... I made a mess on the floor...from.. A bunch of Ash Noodles... Had to move this away a bit..them cauls were a bit close to my arms... Tried to keep things square.. And to the right depth.. Until this sat flush...Finally.. 42"+ of rebate..one side done..I think side 2 can wait a day... HARO50, Harry Brink, Fred W. Hargis Jr and 4 others 7 Quote

Popular Post steven newman Posted May 13, 2024 Author Popular Post Report Posted May 13, 2024 had to return to the Laundry Room, last night..take the clothes out of the washer, and set them into the drawer...and, since I was already down there...side #2 was also rebated.. Popular Post steven newman Posted May 13, 2024 Author Popular Post Report Posted May 13, 2024 Working IN the Dungeon Woodshop on a Monday And paying the price...OW! Legs and back....needed the clothes hamper to get back up the steps, used it like a Walker... These 2... Each by themselves is heavy enough as is..let alone clamp them together, plus the weight of the clamps...then set it to clamp against the side of the bench...when the leg vise barely opens wide enough...ouch! Ok, goal for today's follies...was to clamp these 2 together with the rebates flush with each other....then Joint the front edges so that they also matched each other...about the time I got it all clamped up...remembered that the Stanley No. 8c was on the shelf BEHIND things....so, I just had to make do with.. The "Little Brother" ( hands were NOT the steadiest things) A better view of the Jointer? 22" long, about 8 pounds...Stanley No. 7c, Type 10 Planed until the square was happy.. Sighted down the edges with the Mk2 MOD 4 Eyeballs..looked straight.... Rotate this mess, with the plane out of the way..and level the tops until the matched, since this will be where the Top of the case will sit...without removing the clamps, BTW.. Rotate 180 degrees, still clamped together..to find.. Hmm, this will take a bit of work....round areas with a drum sander in a cordless drill...worked on lowering the flat areas with a beltsander, a palm sander, 2 kinds of Spokeshaves...until.. Until the Stanley No. 80 could smooth things flat.. Square was happy, happy...removed this mess from the vise, and stand it up on it own 4 feet, still clamped together, for now...swept the floor, again.. Called it a day... These will need trimmed.. Then the router table set up....tomorrow..right now? Have been working on that "Perfect Pour" of a Guinness Draught Stout... Stay tuned... Cal, HARO50, Harry Brink and 5 others 8 Quote
Popular Post steven newman Posted May 14, 2024 Author Popular Post Report Posted May 14, 2024 Should have waited, but.. That bundle that needed to be trimmed? got trimmed last night... Cut just enough that this end was even... rotate, change the clamps a bit.. And trim the other end.. Final length came out to be....23-1/2"....close enough, WAS working towards 23-7/8" length, but can adjust things.. Reason to go back into the shop, on a Monday night? Was to finish up with the tablesaw for a day..so I could move it aside.. And move what USED to be back in that corner... out to where I can make some use of it...have 2 operations planned for this..and the use of 2 different bits...then the Tablesaw can come back out...once this is put away.. Charlie horse along the right shin, down into the toes, this morning..had to "walk it off".. Stay tuned.. Harry Brink, Larry Buskirk, Fred W. Hargis Jr and 4 others 7 Quote
Popular Post steven newman Posted May 14, 2024 Author Popular Post Report Posted May 14, 2024 Router Table has just been put away...as the tasks for it are done Swept the messy floor...and waddle back upstairs...a nice, sweaty mess. Legs were acting up, had to stop for the morning....legs will determine whether I go back to the shop.. Film in a little bit... Stay tuned.. lew, Gerald, HARO50 and 4 others 1 6 Quote
Popular Post steven newman Posted May 14, 2024 Author Popular Post Report Posted May 14, 2024 (edited) Router table fence...I used a slider.. 4 4 passes per rail...until.. Those 18 tails were done. The tails have to match up with this 3/8" dovetail bit.. Which gets used in a hand held router, later...to mill sockets for the rails to get glued into.. That Mortise? Is where the Pine runner's tenon is to go...so.. I had to change out the 1/2" Dovetail bit, for this 1/4" straight bit...add a second fence.. And "Start & Stop" lines.. One per end..until.. Now done with the router table, for now...moved it back out of the way...have a LOT on Pine to cut up, with the Tablesaw...again.. As I need runners for the drawers to slide on...and a rail across the back of the case to house the other ends of the runners.. Boss Comes Home, TOMORROW! Ever lose track of what day it is? I woke up thinking today was Wednesday.....Senior Moment? Stay tuned... Edited May 15, 2024 by steven newman Larry Buskirk, Harry Brink, Cal and 5 others 8 Quote

Popular Post steven newman Posted May 16, 2024 Author Popular Post Report Posted May 16, 2024 (edited) Ok..runners for the drawers to slide on are...done Here's half of them..Test fit? Tenons made on the tablesaw.. Came back later.. Got the other 9 runners done... A Trip to Lowes AFTER getting the Boss back home, and settle in....bought five 1 x 2 x 4' Pine boards, ON SALE...picked through the rack to find the best 5...Total price out the door..just under $9.... Tablesaw to cross cut 4 of them to make the remaining 8 back rails..then reset the router table.. As each end needed a mortise to hold a tenon.. That the drawer runner can slip fit into... Later today? May lay out and mill sockets for the dovetailed front rails to slip into..we'll see... Edited May 16, 2024 by steven newman Cal, HARO50, Larry Buskirk and 2 others 5 Quote

Popular Post steven newman Posted May 16, 2024 Author Popular Post Report Posted May 16, 2024 Grumpy...trying to get the house back to where she is happy with it... well, got bored, again...figured I could at least get things set up... Lowered the blade..and we have a work table, that I can clamp things in place.. task for today...set up the hand held router...layout where 9 sockets will be..and save the other side of the case for tomorrow's Follies... Hex Key set, as a router lift? Block of wood is the Backer Block I used to mill the tails with... A few tools were laid out.. Lay out lines were drawn.. Used one of the front rails to lay out where to cut.. Next comes the "Math" from the line on the right..go down about 2-5/8", square a line..I also needed a "STOP" line drawn.. Then add the fence/guide to that 2-5/8" mark..run the router a bit..clean up the socket a bit, and try a test fit..( needed a hammer to help slide in) One done..only 8 more to do.. This was for the next to last socket....had one more to do..and nowhere to clamp the fence? We have ways.. Just turn the fence around, and guide from the other side of the router's base All nine are done, spin this 90 degrees.. Then tomorrow, I can try to transfer all the markings to the other front stile...and mill 9 more sockets... Drawer runners need a couple counter bored holes for screws...goal is for AFTER the tablesaw is done with the router table stuff..it will morph into an assembly table for the Web Frames...intend to glue and pin them all together..flush all connections...and MAYBE assembly the case this weekend? We'll see how tomorrow goes... Stay tuned HARO50, Grandpadave52, Harry Brink and 4 others 5 2 Quote
Popular Post steven newman Posted May 18, 2024 Author Popular Post Report Posted May 18, 2024 Friday was a battle day...everything wanted to pick a fight...managed, somehow, to get the other 9 sockets milled.. So..those are all done..cleaned the bench off.. had pilot holes to drill.. There's half of them... Drill a counter-bored hole.. Then reverse the driver.. And drive a 1-5/8" screw down the hole..as the drill bit is a might too short.. I think that should be enough..as it will be sitting in a bed of glue, later..wanted a smooth edge.. So...a couple passes with a #3 should do the trick..battery in that drill ran out, two holes to go, so..we have ways New drill with a fully charged up battery...for 2 holes.. Tried to pick the stack up..of course they all just balled up. kept 2 on the Assembly Table A 30" clamp, a "tack" hammer, and the front and back rails... Glue and nails.. Back corners are pine, glue and two nails...same with up front.. This will be the "underside" of the frame...only 8 more to go.. Stay tuned.. Fred W. Hargis Jr, Gerald, Cal and 5 others 8 Quote
