4DThinker Posted April 2, 2023 Report Posted April 2, 2023 Looks great, although a bit like it might walk away when you're not looking. My Spidey sense tingled a bit when I first saw it. 4D Cal 1 Quote
StaticLV2 Posted April 3, 2023 Author Report Posted April 3, 2023 Hopefully when the wife loads the drawers with whatever she is planning on filling it up with it will stay put Cal 1 Quote
4DThinker Posted April 3, 2023 Report Posted April 3, 2023 I dunno. Strength to weight ratios of insects is much higher than that of lowly humans. However that may even out as the size of the beast increases. The stout stance of that design looks like no matter what fits in the drawers it could still advance with ill intent. 4D Cal 1 Quote
Popular Post StaticLV2 Posted April 5, 2023 Author Popular Post Report Posted April 5, 2023 Tops are done, sanding is done, and the wife is so excited about it she made me drag it in from the shop so she could see where it is going to be and how it fits in the space. Next up is a BUNCH of drawers. Like more drawers than you can shake a very large stick at I am not sure if the plants are going to stay there or not, we will have to see. PostalTom Posted April 5, 2023 Report Posted April 5, 2023 If your door opens toward the table, the plants might serve as a buffer to keep the door from banging into the table. Grandpadave52, Cal and lew 3 Quote

4DThinker Posted April 5, 2023 Report Posted April 5, 2023 Looks like a good place for it. A nice tall slender sculpture on the center top shelf is what it needs now. That or some art on the wall behind. Grandpadave52, Cal and lew 3 Quote
Popular Post StaticLV2 Posted April 5, 2023 Author Popular Post Report Posted April 5, 2023 There was an art on the wall behind it but the table is too tall and occluded said art. I tried explaining from the picture and measurements that this thing was fairly large but I guess it takes actually seeing it in the space.Anyway, the search has commenced for another, smaller art for the wall. It fits nicely in that space and the wife is very happy with the location and how it looks there (which is the important part) 4DThinker, lew, Cal and 2 others 5 Quote

Cal Posted April 6, 2023 Report Posted April 6, 2023 The proportions are super. Several rungs up the ladder for my skills. Looking forward to the drawers and finish on it... as I am sure the Mrs. is also Grandpadave52 and lew 2 Quote
StaticLV2 Posted April 8, 2023 Author Report Posted April 8, 2023 Drawer stock is all milled up and ready to start dovetailing. Re-sawed on the band saw and cleaned up to final thickness and flatness by hand. Was getting a little tear-out on the planer… going to need to sharpen some blades soon… so this was a job for the No. 62 jack and No. 4 smoother. So many pretty shavings Grandpadave52, 4DThinker, lew and 1 other 4 Quote

Popular Post StaticLV2 Posted May 7, 2023 Author Popular Post Report Posted May 7, 2023 Well, life has been interfering with shop time lately but 6 drawers are mostly done. Two more to go, then I am just waiting for a decision to be made on hardware or cutout for handles. It looks like the decision will be for ring pulls at this point (subject to change) Then I will be able to sand, glue up, and fit. I cant quite see the end of this project but it wont be too much longer 4DThinker, Fred W. Hargis Jr, DuckSoup and 5 others 8 Quote
Popular Post StaticLV2 Posted May 14, 2023 Author Popular Post Report Posted May 14, 2023 Many many dovetails later… the drawers are rough fit. I am gradually getting better at dovetails just in time for the project to be completed. The wife decided that she wants ring pulls rather than a cutout so after spending 20985409 hours scouring the internet for the perfect drawer hardware, those were delivered yesterday. Now I just need to drill the faces for the hardware and I can glue everything up, sand the drawers and get this thing finished. Hopefully tomorrow it will be all done. Fred W.
