March 6, 20233 yr Popular Post What I get done this week will depend on the weather. Yards are still pretty soggy, rained again last night.
March 6, 20233 yr Popular Post I've got one of those L vises. The video post triggered a memory of using it in the previous house I lived in. Must be in a box in my garage that never got unpacked when I moved here. Looks like the silver Stanley he showed. Might be worth digging through the yet unpacked to see if it shows up. Thanks for posting it. 4D
March 6, 20233 yr Popular Post As usual, nothing got done... but I did touch a lot of stuff A couple weeks ago, maybe even further back I cut down these headboards to repurpose into cabinets for the garage. I envision a set of cabinets, lowers & uppers that will match style & colors of the cabinets in our kitchen. The headboards are 3/4" melomine with wood veneer on both sides. Fortunately I had cut them down to nearly the finished sizes. This past weekend I trimmed them and assembled three carcasses. They are each 66" long and will ultimately have drawers. I may get face frames built this week, but I do have a doc appt. tomorrow and a lot of yard work to get at while the weather is so nice. I took the time to paint those pieces made from the dark cherry stained headboard. Thinking it might make it easier to see what is inside I had been wondering what I might use for counter tops since the project began. A few weeks back I was passing through Forsyth so I stopped in at the hotel liquidation center and picked up three additional headboards, also 3/4" melomine in real nice shape. I think that wide edging is actually walnut! This project will be keeping me busy for quite awhile.
March 6, 20233 yr Popular Post I have two of those vises like he was holding in his hand. Not sure if they are pot metal or aluminum or the brand. They do come in handy. Had the blahs over the weekend and just goofed off in the shop with no real purpose.
March 6, 20233 yr Popular Post Getting one box done, start on the next one...out of 3... Monday? Meh...might hit the mid 60s, today...then back to March the rest of the week...
March 6, 20233 yr Author Popular Post Got a question for all you retired guys. Why do you hate Mondays! Does it really matter what day it is?

A persistent shadow memory of workdays while employed I'm guessing. The truth for me is that I loved going to work, and it was the weekends that proceeded too slowly. Of course teaching creative design students isn't the same as most jobs I'll guess. 4D

SWMBO here has decreed that my next wood related project will be a goat milking/grooming stand. Had to let her know that I'M the one who decides how my time should be spent. So, I'm breaking down pallets and searching the scrap wood piles for materials for a goat stand.

March 6, 20233 yr Popular Post @John Morris. Thanks for the recognition. Got by doing what absolutely had to be done over the weekend. I don't recall doing anything that might have aggravated my back, but I was in misery late Saturday through yesterday. Even muscle relaxers didn't help. Some better today. Insurance agent called today. If the tree that uprooted from last week's storm had fallen on the house, vehicles or across the drive, policy would cover removal. As it stands, well falls, no harm no foul. So will be contacting some removal services for quotes this week. Multiple meetings at church this week. Need to make a trip to Purdueville for errands at Menards and Rural King assuming back improves. Ground still way to soggy to begin stick, limb etc. clean-up plus back issues or at least that's my excuse De Jour.

It has gotten so I keep forgeting what day it is, so it doesn't matter if it is Monday or Friday. Been retired for over 20 years so my memory of Mondays is just that, a memory. i
March 6, 20233 yr Popular Post How have I spent my Monday so far? Looking for this L Vise. Turned out it was sitting in plain sight among clutter on my garage bench. I'd had it on my radial arm saw table and had to take it off the last time I used that saw because it was in the way. Cleaned the spider webs off it and some of the sawdust to take this photo. Turns out it's a Champion vise, and to me more of a clear clone of the Stanley aluminum model. 4D For a bit of history, this vise was among the tools handed down from my Uncle Homer Bolinder. He had taught woodworking and I think it was about 1981 when my Aunt Ruth offered the few tools he'd had to me. They included a few files, clamps, a handsaw, and a Craftsman 8" table saw. The table saw has now been handed down to my Niece Susannah and her hubby. Edited March 6, 20233 yr by 4DThinker
