Great to hear from you John. Sorry to hear you lost the "secret wood cave" Did the guard donkeys get sold too?

Yes the donkeys are going also. Sad to see but it was great while it lasted.

So, what happens when I saw on the wrong side of a line?

585157154_FridaysJournalwrongside.JPG.cd80dedc04a430114c05a7994fd248b7.JPG

Why this happens, of course...

I do have a spare to use along that long side...will use this one for something else...

Had to resaw the spare, tonight...then flatten it....so it will be ready for tomorrow...have corners #1 and #4 done..

Cut up the last of the pecan logs in the wood pile.  Enough to make two good sized blanks.  Used the sawbuck I make a couple of weeks ago. Worked really well.  Made the work effortless.

Rough turned one of the blanks.  There were some bark inclusions and knots but I think it will make a good looking project inspite of the warts.

Some purtee grain both inside and out. The "warts" give it even more character. Gonna really pop with a finish.

Maybe you can get @Ron Dudelstonto roll down there and help. I hear he works cheap and since you don't have to feed the donkeys anymore wouldn't cost much to feed him while he's there.

Well it is official, I am over the Covid!!! Negative test today and my energy level is back up to normal or what passes for normal these days.  This weekend starts the build of a white oak patio sofa for the wife so we can enjoy the fall weather.

The design is pretty much done and will mimic the patio chair I made a couple of months back.

Should be a fun project and I am looking forward to this one.  I got all the rough parts / pieces laid out this evening and I am ready to start milling everything tomorrow and probably hopefully start the joinery on Sunday.

That’s a great idea I spoke with him today. Maybe he’ll come down and help out. I might even share some lumber with him.

Glad you're doing much better. Know exactly where you're coming from. It's taken me two weeks to regain anything close to normal.

Wondering since I read your posts, is it possible maybe you gave me COVID?:WonderScratch:Hmmmm:ChinScratch: Apparently TPS virus blocker isn't working.

:ChinScratch: Not quite done, but the JRV makes it's first official run later today. Spent yesterday finishing up some work on the roof rack, and ladder that will get you up there. BION there was a little woodworking involved! ;)

First up was figuring out what to do with the damaged rear doors.

1895296626_JRVRear1.PNG.7113132931cd5740df25275a250f134c.PNG

While we ponder that :BangingHead: we'll show a bit of what's been done.

First a frontal view of the replaced bumper, hood, and grill along with the front mounted hitch.

292513263_JRVFront.PNG.f32a51c0d5fe25ff245e0cbcf80e9204.PNG

Now a view from the top of the roof rack. The perferated steel plates are roughly 3/16" thick. It took three of us to get the rack minus the wood onto the van. This should prevent the caved in/leaking roof syndrome of Bruce's other roof racks.

That suckers 14' 2" long X 58" wide.

747150756_JRVRoofRack1.PNG.975754fac80ff2c44fcc8d3f9108f95d.PNG

And another first with Bruce's roof racks. A tailgate!

Side view with the hitch shelf in the stored position. Still have a bit of bodywork to do.

1023884322_JRVRightSide.PNG.b21134dc41e0bee357a0b3a6483c534d.PNG

Those rear doors?

:ChinScratch:How's this grab you?

1260023132_JRVRear2.PNG.e059758dcecac44f37c07562f1d7c5f4.PNG

A bit of aluminum diamond plate covering the lower damage. (Doors work fine after a bit of :BangingHead:)

The ladder was made from a bunk bed ladder, two carraige bolts, and parts from a cyclone fence gate.

The original ladder rack, ladder, gate, diamond plate, and the tailgate were all found "Curb Shopping" :P

Bruce about fell over at the price of those 1"x12" standard grade pine boards for the front, and sides. <_<

:ChinScratch: Not to shabby for a couple of mid 60's nut cases.

:throbbinghead:

We may be :OldManSmiley:, but dang straight we're bold! ;)

Buick was transferred from local GM hospital to an independent rehab facility yesterday. GM dealer wanted to replace the engine at $8500. New GM crate engine can be had for $3500 delivered. Must be new math. Independent facility boasts they can fix it but can't start on it until 10/5.

Dave I thought this fix was on GM's dime, no?  Will be interesting to find out what is going on when it is fixed.

gotta do some minor tree trimming, i've tried to find someone to trim our big palo verde all summer but to no avail, so have chopped away at it a bit at a time, today will be last, amazing a joint full of landscapers and none wanted to trim trees, i have a lot on the lot and the desert trees, well some of them grow like weeds,

anyhowz, once done will run to land fill and dump the load.

ole gal and i are gonna try and finish up my dust collection, decided to sell the jet cabt. saw with sliding table, just can't get it to fit in the layout of shop along with the big delta. kinda hate to, but progress.

going to check out a new venue for craft shows tomorrow am, may give it a go, at least they don't require u to show up every weekend, just when you want to, like i told the gal at discussion, ''not looking for a job'', just finished 60 years of one.

finished up making the trivets from the scrap from original run, a large 2x2 BB , monster board for a commercial kitchen a friend asked for.

at lunch yesterday friends asked if i could make them a sort of parchesi board (spelling, lol) simple deal, will get it all ripped today and start gluing up panel.

he is gonna supply a template for the marble locations.

have extreme liberal family members coming for a visit, ugh, i'll get  a whole lot of shop time in, as we struggle at times.

the big sell off is still going on, trucks, trailers and misc. tools up for sale, dealing with the idgits from craigslist, offer up and facebook, boy howdy, thats a struggle to be polite to folks that are late, go dark on com;s, and just plain rude, ole gal says i'm becoming an old crudmudgeon, ''what i say, not me''

happy saturday good to be here, may the dust fall in the appropriate places and if not, perhaps a breeze will assist in relocation

Now I'm thinking of Johnny Cash ... Time to spin my 2-disc set.

• Friday, 2.5 hrs ∆ porch cutting.

• Today, as this rain is about to blow over,  bonanza vending w/ 2nd table coming up.

• Yesterday and today I dressed three hand planes and one chisel. Gave up on the 'outside chisel' for now; I'll either pay a friendly hardware store owner's daughter to get her dad to fix it, or buy a fine wheel for my bench grinder.

The new stuff of this week ... I'll be slowing down the vending thing. Want to concentrate on a few more complicated items.

Apparently Buick pushed back based on age/miles??? After spending time with the GM dealer asst. Service Manager, suspect he didn't put any extra energy pursuing his fix with GM. I told him it was first GM vehicle I had owned in 30+ years and probably should have remained with that strategy...guessing that didn't win me any points.

I did stumble onto a GM TSB describing this very problem as a result of wire harness chaffing on the back side of the engine in a difficult to access location. Also found a You-tube video describing a near identical problem due to a mis-located ground harness. Seems that can happen after intake has been removed to access plugs/coil packs as part of a tune up. Only other guesses I have is porosity or crack in intake manifold or perhaps worn camshaft lobes on #6 cylinder. Guess we'll see...maybe...someday???

Messy bench, happy wench?    Oops, don't take me to literally, just funning! :OldManSmiley:  On the other hand, some wives WANT their guy away from underfoot, doing something other than shouting at the TV with a beer in their hands :ChinScratch:

No current bench pics, but wow, it can get pretty much covered with stock, multiple pieces in various stages of completion, LOTS of wood shavings .... And I dare not stop until the 6 - 7 - 8 projects are all 100% done. THEN completely return all tools to their resting places, stow materials, and take out the bench covering for a good shake.

Niece has viral bronchitis.  I delivered ice cream + goodies Friday at noon.  Guess I'm socked into another 'lunch' delivery Monday or Tuesday :SaluteandRun:  She really plays up the 'favorite uncle' routine :D

Dang, hit the vending right as the rain stopped. COLD and damp for an hour, then warmed up. The improvised scarf / ascot helped. And I was in ratty oversized 'porch cutting and painting' duds, 3-day beard.  Too tired to spruce up.

It may have helped.  The 'look' with which this clientele identify.  Sold over half.  :WonderScratch: Now for a nose ring and tattoos :o

nice looking goods there.

well day went as planned, forgot to charge battery in dump trailer to full charge, while it did raise the bed, i was sweating it for a few minutes, the thought of having to hand unload, like i did before the dump purchase was choking me.

we got that all done, made a trip to rockler, picked up a dozen board ft of curly maple, and they had a 6 pack of bessey clamps on sale, so well who doesn't need mo clamps

made it home worn out, so gonna make some spaghetti, and meat balls, a glass or two of the grapes and call it rest time,

going tomorrow to check out a new sale venue, see how they set up and how the flow works, may try them out as i mentioned in another thread, have a couple pals who make pens and sell'm we all have a hoot of a time at the shows,

happy saturday, may the sun set on a blessful day
