Maybe I'm dead and just haven't laid down. Loud noises or someone suddenly appearing behind me, definitely gets my attention, but has never caused me to flinch while I'm doing something. I've been told that I don't have a nerve in my body. That said, my wife and daughter will jump at the drop of a pin, and I've learned not to appear where I'm not expected without first letting my presence be known. Hey, Your wife does the laundry doesn't she. Your problem is her problem. Since I’ve been downstairs, working on my project for the last couple of weeks, I’ve done all the laundry since Veterans Day.

My wife would have a stroke. Heck if I go down to the kitchen to get say a beer from the fridge she shoos me away like I might be interrupting her making meth.
December 6, 20205 yr Author Popular Post There’s an old saying “There’s a lid for every pot” We’re each other’s lid. Plus if I’m doing the laundry, she’s not coming downstairs and bothering me.
December 6, 20205 yr Popular Post I am the very jumpy one in our family. The wife knows that if I am running equipment, she don't come through the door until I've either stopped or seen her, at which point I stop. Winter is about the only time it's an issue as I am normally facing the open door while working. Similar to Gunny, I was at the local lumber yard one day talking to the lady at the counter when one of the other countermen came up behind me and tapped me on the shoulder. I am not sure who was more surprised - me, Dustin when my reaction was to spin around and darn near decked him in self defense or the rest of the workers there who just sort of stopped and stared. But it was all good; Dustin was really just wanting to say hello, I didn't actually deck him although he did jump back about 2' too! And now everyone at the store knows to speak before coming up behind me

Since we previously had a basement but now a garage, the agreed upon signal was/is to flash the overhead lights. Since my lights are on several independent circuits there is no danger of a total blackout. The lights used are in my peripheral vision. Also her being a woodworker just adds to the understanding of the danger.

December 6, 20205 yr Before enlisting in the Air Force I had enlisted in the National Guard. I was among many WW11 veterans. I remember in a Parade, we had stopped in front of a Statue of the Dough boy to salute. At one instant, a canon was fired for the salute and 3 of the veterans in the parade hit the ground. Really woke me up to the reality of what they had gone thru.

Really woke me up to the reality of what they had gone thru. While bringing back to the work area 8 new employees at our base we had an explosion on other side of berm. You could tell the vets in the group. We hit the deck and covered up. 5 had never served, they stood up and looked at where it came from. Got peppered with shrapnel. So 1st day on the job so to speak and already in the medics office, injured. 3 quit next day.

I was startled (since this is a family forum, I will not describe what I did in me drawers LOL). So afterwards we had a discussion on her coming down stairs when I’m working there. Wondering if anyone else here has similar issues, and how you deal with it? For that reason, I have my table saw positioned in my shop so that I see the door and not have my back to it. Also, my wife will knock first before entering my shop. She knows it can be a danger zone. Danl
December 20, 20205 yr Back on track for the Kissmas kissmas tree.pdf tree, Artie, did you build yours with 30 tiers as recommended in the plan? It suggests rotating each branch 45 degrees, but wouldn't 137.5 be better, or more (ir)rational? Edited December 20, 20205 yr by kmealy

December 22, 20205 yr Author I did use the 30 pieces. When I set them up, I start at the bottom, and just swing the next one up over just enough so I can get all the holes exposed, then on to the next, and so on.
December 22, 20205 yr Popular Post looks great. Looking for something to do, I got pieces cut for 4 of them this afternoon. I laid them out so they were set up with minimal waste. Sort of like this. Got the 1/4" holes drilled and need to run out tomorrow for some hardware. What did you use for your finials, @artie ? _________ |/_\_/_\ _/| Edited December 22, 20205 yr by kmealy
