Hi, I am a newbie to woodworking. Some of the stuff I’ve built is still actually together. I am learning. In my mind (more so than in the shop) I get how the stuff is supposed to go together. Finishing I know nothing about, and I suck at it. So far I mostly use foam brushes, and stain or paint. I’m liking General Finishes. The finish on my stuff kinda looks like it came from a 6’th grade shop class. Is this a progressive thing? Do I have to get good with brushes before I can think about a spray system? Is it easy (?) to learn how to use a spray system? Is there anything feasible for a small sh

As president of the local woodworking club, I am on the contact list. I got an e-mail from a guy last week who'd like to build a jewelry box for his girlfriend but didn't have the tools to do it (lives in an apartment). He came over this afternoon. Nice young man in his mid-20s, an industrial engineer that works for a big company in town. Anyway, he brought over two 2' pieces of 1/2" maple and some 1/8" plywood 12" squares. So gentleman my fist project in 20 yrs is officially complete! I have to figue out a dust collection when i can afford it. Just spent 30 mins washing the bike lol. So an amazing a gentleman donate a small shop enough to get started. I recieved a ton of old damnp weathered moss covered cypress fence wood from the farm thats proving unventional therapy for me that has made me to the point of being the face and had me speek at after a mental health documentary screening and i will again next weekend. There are a few folks around here that have probably figured out that I like to seek the rust! And, it seems that most of my time in the shop is spent cleaning and tuning that rusty gold. But, the reason that I started the rust hunting in the first place was to build up a good set of hand woodworking tools and ultimately learn some of the hand joinery techniques for myself.
