Many years ago my Grandfather taught me an important life lesson. Help people if you can and expect nothing in return. It may not come back right away but it comes back and will surprise you. When I visited we were always out and about doing small jobs or moving stuff. Making horse trade deals for work or something he wanted. I often save something that I don't need thinking I can trade it for something else. Sometimes I get lucky, and sometimes it goes to the scrap pile ya never know.

Since I came here in August of 2018 several people have sent me items and I wish to take a moment to thank those and others who do the same.

@Gene Howe sent me these Infiniti Router bits. Have practiced with them but not had a call for them to be used in a project... yet.

@Jim from Easy Wood Tools tools hooked me up when I called to order some chisels.

This Wood River Block plane in the Christmas Campaign drawing.  Yes that is a HF special next to it on the left.  I work with what I have.  :D

@John Morris sends me a large package and it was like Christmas. Lots of goodies including a jig I am still working a design for.

This week @Gerald sent me a Stanley #78 Rabbit plane, beautiful condition.

And this week @p_toad  honored me with a Wood River #4 Handplane.  Big upgrade from my HF special.

Truly I am blessed and thankful for those that have sent me some very nice gifts. I endeavor to pass the same along to others when the opportunity arises.

Thank you all.

Gunny

  • I can't imagine that kinda move,..However;  I'm waaaaay into simple lifestyles. There are those out there that actually believe coffee in the mornings while overlooking bird feeders is not serious bus

Because most everything is packed away in preparation for a move...that is looking less and less likely... I dont have pictures. But, @lew kindly gifted me with a French rolling pin with a beautiful Celtic knot design and a neat wall mounted holder,  and, two very nice turned mallets.

And, @John Morris was very generous in his gifts of a Fordom with numerous hand pieces and, bits as well as a couple Merle clamps.

Woodworkers, especially those here, are truly exceptional folks. I'm gratefully honored to call you all friends.

Me too, I am not much for social media but this site I enjoy.

If I had to make a list of all the things I learned here and thank those people it would take a few weeks.  :D

The folks here provide a lot of motivation for this old buck.

About 12 years ago, it was AlB who lent me a book of Lois Keener Ventura.  I made copies of the patterns and returned the book.  Then I was able to get a used one.  After joining here, Cal sent me a pen turning kit.  I asked my grandson the other day if he is ready to turn some pens.  He said, "Yes!"  So, folks here are a real blessing to all on this site, mostly by sharing information of experience and encouraging each other.  Thank you, PTW and all who frequent these forums.

Lets not overlook Gunny gifted me 2 awesome mobile bases when I was disgruntled about not finding any that were USA made anymore for a tool  had just ordered. Handydan sent a pen stand for the attendees of my shop-warming gathering a few years back, and Jim at EZ wood donated a royuhing tool that Irishwoodcarver won (his wife drew the winning tickee...I still think it was a setup ). At that same gathering, Dan donated a Windriver bevel up plane he had won in that tool ID contest (?) to be handed out. There was a ton of other stuff, including 2,317 Woodcraft backpacks that Ron Dude tried to hand out.

I have been the donator as well as the recipient and really like the generosity of the members here.  Feels great to be a member.

I have also been a recipient of site generosity over and above all the good info I receive on a daily basis here.

A few years back on a cross county haul I had the good fortune to be able to meet up and break bread with Jess, aka Smallpatch and his lovely bride.

I don't recall who paid for supper, but it was great Texas style brisket barbeque.

This is a pic of Jess and Bernadette flanked by my SIL and myself.

Jess also gave me a plaque that he makes.  It hangs in my sun room where I see it everyday.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy, either!

My neighbor looked over the site when we had the fundraiser going on.  He tells me I don't need another bandsaw in the shop.

Kicked him out of the shop.  I don't need that kind of negativity in my life.  :throbbinghead:

According to my Daughter I have every tool known to man.  No little one, soon you will see, soon enough.  :throbbinghead:

That I have handled, everything comes with me except power tools.  Those are 110 Ukraine is 220.  Minor problem I will resolve once in country.  Now the real problem, UNPACKING all this stuff.  Then making new places to put it.  By that time though I will be semi retired and have more time at home.  In theory.  :ChinScratch:

IMHO, there are two distinctly different kinds of retirement - one where you sit in your recliner and wait..., the other where you find a new path for your life.  Of course, there are other factors and considerations.

I have an 80 yo friend who has been hit with pretty much every health obstacle out there (some due to his own decisions), but he is happiest when in his shop turning at his Powermatic lathe.

True but I have the power tool thingy handled on the other side of the pond so to speak.  Been planning for 8 years.  Hand tools and such I can easily get there to the Odessa port and then from the port to where we live Uncle Yura will get a tractor trailer transport set up.
