April 2, 20206 yr Looks good so far. I just used that style of clamp closure on my storage boxes. Had found a deal few years ago and cleaned the guy out. Finally down to only 2 left.
April 3, 20206 yr Author Popular Post Plugs were trimmed flush, tonight...Tools needed? A chisel wide enough to span the plugs, used bevel down. A light hammer to tap the chisel, instead of my hand. And a block plane to finish things up A little handsanding, too. Mixed a batch of my Famous Witch's Brew....not sure what all is in that quart can...but.. Brush it on,then wipe it down after a bit. Door #2 will get it's turn...after I finish making 11 plugs... Was able to install 14 plugs, then the plug cutter started to fight...tore up two plugs...kepy trying to pull the wood and my hand towards the spinning cutter...let it sit a day, to cool off. Door was adjusted to close a bit better...ran a handsaw in the gap at the top..seemed there was a little extra to remove....took it off from both sides at once...and watch the doors close. IF I can make enough plugs tomorrow, I can get the doors done. Might even slip out of the house, and buy a decent latch ? stay tuned....

April 3, 20206 yr Author Trip to Lowes, today..was...interesting....took longer to get inside and back out, than to just pick these things up.. And walk to the check-out counter....was almost like standing in the chow line in Basic Training....
April 3, 20206 yr Author Popular Post Ok..in order to mill 11 more plugs...I needed to 1) sharpen the cutter, 2) plane a board to fit the vise on the drill press.. 1) Mostly a lot of carbon build-up... 2) Board with the holes was too wide...planed off a bit of excess Pine.. So the drill press vise could hold onto the board.... Mill a plug, move the board a bit, mill another. leave enough of a "wall" for the screwdriver to press against, when I pop the plugs out. Plugs are now installed, trimmed flush, sanded smooth.. then install the latches..needed a screw starter.. Irwin made a nice one. hardest part was getting the latches to pull things tight.. Hmm..guess I installed the latches first..oh well.... Door was sanded a bit, then the Witch's Brew was brushed on, and then wiped down.. And now, for the Five Cent Tour? Open the doors, first.. Visegrips are for a glue-up going on.. So these two planes do not go sliding off...I added a couple more keepers to the brace till... Took apart an old brass hinge to make 2 keepers.. chisel rack also got a bit of finish. . did not feel like doing the insides of the case...and having that smell linger in there for a few months...Brew is 50% BLO..and STINKS.... Be sure to close the doors when done.. Insides are still a Work-in-Progress....trying to arrange things so they will be easy to find... Getting a bit crowded in here.. wasn't too bad of a day...
April 4, 20206 yr Man that is purdy!!!! I feel ya on this inside. You do a layout, play with it, change it, play with it again, change it. Next day the thing is slap full.
April 4, 20206 yr Popular Post I love it. Now when are you going to make one for me? Can you do it in Ikea mode so I can assemble it when I get it?
April 4, 20206 yr Author Will continue to sit on that bench.....walls are too far away, and doubt IF they would hold the weight...things weighs more than I do...
April 4, 20206 yr Author Popular Post Soooo....how about the $0.05 Tour? You have already seen it with the doors closed up... so.. Schving the right hand door until that door prop engages.. keeps the door from closing up on me, while I am looking around inside...the Left door? so..Lets start here at the bottom left corner? A pair of Stanley No. 4s. The cases for the Stanley #45 and the Stanley #71-1/2..next ^ Then on up to the top.. Then turn to the right a bit.. As for that Rogue's Gallery below all those drills... Hmm, see anybody you know? Below the Gallery.. Just a few planes...more of them Block planes? They are just like Mice...on to the upper right corner.. Kind of crowded..as for that door.. More block planes? Some Hammers. and the rest of the Egg beater drills. Then just dis-engage the door prop..and close things up.... Hope you enjoyed the show.
