Wednesday's Wisdom For Woodturners

Featured Replies

Sorry guys, not too much this week. Between subbing, doctor appointments, vet appointments and puppy training- shop time has been very limited.

@PostalTom showed us a sweet little bowl he made for his woodturning club exchange challenge-

Check out how Tom made sure the paper clips don't get away!

@Gene Howe Sent me this link. It has some nice turning accessories, from Ron Brown, including several types of chucks. Check out Mr. Brown's website at-

@Gerald asked a question about the finish we like to use on bottle stoppers. My personal favorite is oil based poly. It seems to stand up to handling and moisture. Why not checkout Geralds post and give him your favorite-

Easy Wood Tools ( @Jim from Easy Wood Tools ) is presenting free tool demonstrations this coming weekend. If you are near

Buffalo Grove, IL or Orland Park, IL, why not stop in and try out these fantastic tools!

Mike Peace put up a short video with some turning tips. A couple of great ideas-

Holding lathe work can often be challenging. Turner devise all sorts of jigs/chucks to be able to turn their projects. Captain Eddy put up a video a little while back demonstrating some ideas for holding work-

Safe turning

I switched to using lacquer on my B stoppers. about 10 coats then sand and steel wool them finishing with a coat or two of paste wax.

Great post Lew.  Glad to see Captain Eddie back in the swing of things.

Appreciate the effort Lew, always look forward to this feature!

Steve

yep I think Lacquer is the answer to ease of use and good finish.

The only issue we have with lacquer is the fumes. thus I'm left to spraying it outside on dry warm days.

Build a booth and vent it to outside.IMG_1194.JPG.494b621d868ced6d9f8e81bdef062f03.JPG

I do have an exhaust blower I saved off our old water heater just for this purpose. hopefully by mid summer I'll have a downdraft spray booth set up and be using it.

Thank you Lew
