John Morris Posted February 18, 2017 Report Posted February 18, 2017 Folks, I am looking for a tenon cutter along the lines of these, I could purchase one from Mr. Elia, and I just may, I could make one but reality is, I don't feel like it. Though I may. Do you know of any other retailers who sell tenon cutters. I would prefer a 5/8". Or, plans, I may make one too. But, I would prefer to purchase if the price was reasonable. Thanks folks. HARO50 1 Quote

I'll probably end up making my own, but was hoping something out there was available ready to buy. Thanks man, appreciate the effort! Quote
John Morris Posted February 18, 2017 Author Report Posted February 18, 2017 I found these earlier today, but still not what I am looking for, but it was the closest thing Veritas had. http://www.leevalley.com/us/wood/page.aspx?p=52401&cat=1,180,42288,52401 Quote

Thanks Stick, looking at images of wood tenon cutters they don't seem that complicated to make, I could do it without plans the more I think on it. See this fellows home made cutter at the top of the image with the "C" clamp, it's just a plane blade and a block of wood with the tenon hole proper size drilled into it. It is tapered but I like the look of tapered tenons in chair rungs, you don't have that pesky little shoulder that is traditionally exposed on the rung, it's accurate for the shoulder to be exposed, but just because they did it 200 years ago, don't make it right, I like the smooth transition of the chair rung to the hole when using tapered tenons. Stick486 Posted February 18, 2017 Report Posted February 18, 2017 I'd think a hand tapered reamer would be just the ticket for the tapered hole... John Morris 1 Quote
