That WIP: Drawer building

Featured Replies

Steve, now I realize it was for the shop.  Thanks for the update.  I thought you were going to paint it and put it up stairs.  My bad.

That said great work and explanations.  Many Kudos.

Well missed a few days here...looks like you've done really well without me so maybe I'll leave you alone for a couple more days...:D

You get more out of your hand tools in a couple of weeks than I do out of power tools in a couple of months especially this time of year.

I hope you've got another project in mind to start after this one? I've gotta have something to follow along everyday to keep my skills sharp...:P

Well done, and for the record BLO kinda stinks in the PM as well! saying-yes-nodding-smiley-emoticon.gif

well, after a full day,the BLO is now down to a tolerable level...seems to be dry.   Will need a second coat, though.

Wasn't too happy with the way the cordless cicular saw was doing the crosscuts,...kind of wavy, again  ( operator, maybe )

So, I got down a couple handsaws, to see IF I remembered how to use one( and a Cardio).   First saw was a D-23 crosscut....wanted to bind in the cut...needs more set.   Next up..D-8 and a square.JPG

Was a Disston D-8, Crosscut saw.   I also brought  that stanley square down to the shop, as the combo was feeling a bit too loose.

well almost square, have a "rookie" running the saw tonight....There is that Stanley #358 Mitre Box back there, and I used that to fine tune a few cuts..

square and jointer.JPG

All of the boards from that 1 x 6 had to be resawn down, to fit into a 4-1/2" high space.  Once the ends were square, then that plane could joint the sawn edges.   Check the two pieces for the drawers sides...

Should work.  Then the "Usual Suspects were rounded up..

As I had a few more of these to get done...BTW, Lew, you Mallet has been taking a beating, lately..

Dovetails.JPG

Hitting on all those chisel to make these things...Then some more work with the Stanley 45....size the back of the drawer,  cut a plywood bottom, and glue it up..

glued up.JPG

The back WAS clamped up, just long enough to add a few screws.  Tomorrow I can get rid of the other clamps, and add these two items..

knobs.JPG

As it turned out, I have just enough knobs that matched each other.   May post a completed picture, tomorrow.   I have to finish fitting the drawer to the case, and add the Brew....stay tuned...

Waiting intensely!
