Stick486 Posted December 29, 2018 Author Report Posted December 29, 2018 (edited) BB = Big Box... (context sensitive)... WW = White Wood... (context sensitive)... White wood is the cheap, crappy wood available at BB's (home centers aka Big Boxes) and will vary by region... Here in Colorado it's some kind of pine or hybrid there of (generally leaning towards spruce but not always) which leads to your guess is as good as anybody's as to what it really is.... I am not sure I actually found it; what I found by searching the term "acronym" was a thread that Stick had started some time back... @Cal you conveyed it perfectly, I completely understood what you were asking. There is no public list. And the page does not exist. The acronyms are entered into our software database behind the scenes, so that they appear in your acronyms that you use. Once they are entered into the database the software then recognizes the acronym and puts a little dotted underline under the acronym, then when you hover your cursor over the letters, the definition appears. In your case perhaps you may not be seeing the dotted line. Here are a few examples. BB BF BLO PTSD OEF OIF Miter Saw">SCMS TPI You should see a little dotted line under those acronyms I entered above, and you'll hover your cursor over the letters, and the definition will appear. There are over 200 acronyms entered into our database, and to create a list with definitions would be pretty labor intensive. So hopefully if you do see an acronym, it will have a little dotted line under it. But, not all acronyms make the cut, some just seem to be made up or perhaps are non industry compliant, they could be local acronyms only. So we are trying to keep the list down to well known acronyms and a few that are used here mainly by our members such as SNORK. Granted, I have not entered all the well known ones in yet that were suggested by you all, it's a process. But I am still entering them in. Hope this helps reveal the mystery of the missing acronym page. There isn't one. HARO50 and Stick486 1 1 Quote

WW is not on our list, we try to stay with acronyms that are widely used by forum users, I don't see WW often if at all, this is the first topic I have seen it, doesn't mean it's the only topic with WW being used though, I just simply don't see all the topics here on this forum. On 12/29/2018 at 5:04 AM, Cal said: I thought the "acronym" page was official but it didn't have any links for it - should it be? There is no official list of acronyms, the feature happens in the background, the acronyms list request is just that, a list to request one to be entered into our database within the software. I am way behind in entering acronyms into our database, I have to filter through many to find out if they are indeed widely used, or just local terminology. The local terms do not get entered into our list, but the widely used ones do. Thanks! HARO50 and FlGatorwood 2 Quote
John Morris Posted December 31, 2018 Report Posted December 31, 2018 @Cal, the acronym discussion was moved here to keep Sticks deck topic clean. I'd like to ask you, you had stated that you are not seeing the definitions pop up, are you hovering your cursor over the underlined acronyms? If you are, and you are not seeing the definitions, perhaps there is a way to enable popups for our community at your browser. Thanks. FlGatorwood 1 Quote

Popular Post JimM Posted December 21, 2021 Popular Post Report Posted December 21, 2021 Does BORG fit in here? Big Orange Retail Giant. Lowes and Menards are probably under the same umbrella, but it just doesn't have the same ring. Gunny, HARO50, lew and 3 others 5 1 Quote
John Morris Posted December 21, 2021 Report Posted December 21, 2021 BORG is a good wun! I entered it, it may take awhile to populate, once it's underlined, it's active. Grandpadave52 and Cal 1 1 Quote
