I have a buncha shelf pin holes to drill, and decided to start with a little shop project: the vertical mirror guide. I'm sure you've seen the idea. But I'll bore you with a picture anyway because it's...expected. The key for me was finding a really cheap mirror. Now what I found (link below) is really a plastic reflective surface, and if you ever see your face in it, you'll be off to your dermatologist. Assuming they're open. Anyway the plastic is marginal as a mirror, but more than sufficient as a drill guide. And fun to see how many reflections of a drill bit you can create at different angles. I got the mirrors for about $2.50 each, right in my range. Mounted them (DS tape) on scrap plywood, used rubber cement and a piece of cloth for a hinge. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MYXQ7E8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My sister "commissioned" this for her husband. She said price was no object (as in free) because it probably be cheaper than a trip to the emergency room. I found a couple of designs from a Google search and he picked the one he liked. It's large enough to hold the "deli" versions. Made from scraps from the lumber rack. Maple, Walnut and a small piece of cherry. All glued joints. Finished with mineral oil and bee's wax. Time to get back to the lathe!

Band Saw Blade Guide System (looking for references)
John Morris posted a topic in Machinery, Tools, Research, Reviews and Safety
I am looking for a set of guides that would be an upgrade from what I have now, which is just the stock roller guides for my Grizz 14" Ultimate Bandsaw. I have folks say they love the freeze blocks, and then there are some nice bearing guides too. My saw is this one at http://www.grizzly.com/products/The-Ultimate-14-Bandsaw/G0555?utm_campaign=zPage A 14" with riser block. Does anyone have any recommendations for a new guide set? Thanks! -
While trying to take things easy,...yeah..riiight. Figured I could set up a place the right height to sharpen a few chisels up. Got a 1/4" scrap of plywood to set the oil stones on. Dug out the veritas MkI honing guide. Found a bottle of 3in1 air tool oil. A couple chisels needed a trip to the grinder, first. Most were at 25 degrees, but one was @ 30 degrees. Set the oil stones on the plywood, gave them a shot of oil. and went to town on it with a chisel. Even polished the backs flat. After the stones, then a few trips down some 2K paper. Set the group out of the way when done.. That long, skinny one is the 30 degree Firmer chisel. i was going to do the gouge...but, had other things to do... Tonight, got the last of the chisel work done, I hope. So, now I have another "batch to bring upstairs to refresh the edges Bevel chisels and a bunch of mortise chisels, even a few by Butcher. As soon as I figure the angles out for the mortise chisels, I can get busy on them.. Until then, I just kick back and rest the back....maybe.
