Well I decided to do a Newman but not as full. My carving and burning station needed something so cabinet and drawers were the thing. The stock for the cabinet was so rough looking on edges decided to edge band with cherry. Then used #3 plane to reduce it. Well then I have to sand that off, nice and smooth. Ok nothing of the assembly but this is what I have so far. Now a little on doors. This panel was not wide enough so I added a strip of Mahogany using a tounge and groove to secure it in place. Again no assembly pics . Totally assembled and then placed. No way to secure the back with the bottom panel in place so used a bracket to secure it . Well my choice for drawer front had some bad spots on back edges right were joints and bottom go so had to fill that. That was the progress for the last 3 days. Doors and drawer assembly scheduled for today and pushing forward.

I'm making cabinet doors for my son. I have 3/16" plywood. Do you think making 1/4" dado joints are to wide. Should I consider the 1/16" for expansion? Or is that too much? I'm doing a mortise & tension joint on the corners. It would make it so much easier doing the 1/4". I try to get 1/4" plywood when I do my doors but all these odd size plywoods anymore.

Hi all I am building a curio cabinet for my daughter and the design has a rabet that the class sits in then a keeper to keep it in place. But i am thinking I should use some felt or silicone or sealant to keep them rattle free and not get broken. What are your thoughts. For a picture think of a wood top with a glass insert. Then 2 glass shelves. Then 2 doors with glass panels. Then 2 side that have glass panels. If i use the felt it may get too thick. I need advise please.

Well, between GrandBRATS and Maxwell the Fat Pup beating up on my screen door I built a few years ago.....needs replaced. Boss also wants a Doggy door added. Maxwell can open the door to get out, just hasn't figured out how to get back in,, other than stand there and bark at the door. Old screen door was sitting in a metal jamb from another screen door....broke out the bottom edge of my screen door. Hinges are worthless. Going to rip all that out, and go with a few T hinges, like on the Pantry doors. Bought a new wooden screen door. Will adapt the bottom half for a doggy door she bought. Rest of the bottom half's opening will get filled in. Then a screen guard will be installed over the upper part, to keep certain felines from climbing through. Whole mess should take about...one day....we'll see how THAT goes...stay tuned

When I made other storage cabinets, I used inset doors and was never happy with the way they looked or operated. On this next project I have decided to use overlay doors but I don't know how to select the amount of overlay. I know I have to know this so I can purchase the correct hinges. Is there a rule of thumb depending on the width of the face frame and the door stiles and rails, or is it simply a matter of personal preference? Any help would be appreciated.
