    Jigsaw

Some years ago, I decided to upgrade my cheap Black&Decker jig saw for a better unit. I had heard that Bosch was top of the class, but since I use one infrequently, opted for the Grizzly. It's work OK. Recently, I bought a Bosch from the widow of a late friend who's been clearing out his shop. I played around with it a bit today and took a good look at it. Then I pulled out my Grizzly to get a new blade in the Bosch. I was shocked, shocked, to see how much the Grizzly was a blatant knock-off of the Bosch. Almost all the options and external parts look the same. Seems like the new Grizzlys are now cordless, so I'm not sure they're even making my old model any more.
  2. I have the above sander and have owned it for several years. Love the sander for the work it does and because it was so smooth and balanced. Well it hit the concrete last year and it now has a bit of a wobble to it. It drives me nuts as it's not the same tool anymore. I've taken it a apart to some degree to see if I could see anything that didn't look right but I came up empty. Does anyone have experience with something like this that might help me fix this tool? One option is to take it in for repair and if they could fix it, the cost would probably warrant a new tool I'm guessing. I may do that though to see what they say but thought I would check here first. Wishing it would be something simple but more than likely not.. Thanks for your time.

  4. Hey guys…I know I have been kinda MIA but work has been stupid crazy. It has been fun seeing what everyone is doing. I will be upgrading my miter saw. I currently have a 10 inch. Is there a distinct advantage to move to a 12 inch? I have narrowed to the Bosch or Ridgid with articulating arms to save space. Have a great weekend

3M Extract Cubitron 2 sanding discs

After watching the video that someone (Gene?) posted demonstrating these discs, I was itching to try some out. Thsi week Taylor Tools not only has a complete stock, but a 10% off sale so I ordered some 120, 150, and 180 grit 5" discs. This is after just a brief test, and I intend to keep trying them out. But, I took a roughly 10" x 10" scrap piece of cherry that was in desperate need of cleaning and started sanding with some 120 grit Cubitron. I was using a Bosch 5" sander, hooked to a VS vac that I always slow down to the lowest speed with the sander (higher speeds suck the sander into the wood, mimicking a lot of applied pressure on the sander). To be honest, the results were disappointing. I had a good amount of dust on the non slip sanding pad I was using to hold the work piece, and the pad on the sander was actually pretty full of dust. When I picked the sander up off the wood, there was quite a pile centered where the disc was. This was also a fair amount of visible dust in the air, using cherry made it a lot more visible. Now, this is hardly conclusive and I intend to speed the vac up and try some more. With the Cubitron, I may not have the problem with higher speeds since it vents very differently than the 8 hole discs I normally use. So much for dust collection, for the sanding function these clearly cut faster than the Klingspor alum. oxide I usually use. In less than 2 minutes per side, I had the piece presentable. Anyway, if anyone want to take advantage of the Taylor sale, use the code "black10"...supposed to be good until 12/3 (and I believe it is for anything they sell). Edit, I added a pic. You can see the dust on the sander's pad, some on the mat I used, and a pile on the wood. Like I said, this was hardly a concusive test adn i'll try a few more pieces of wood along with turning my vac up and we'll see how they do.
  6. Just saw on Y**Tube that HD is (may be) dropping the Bosch brand. Does anyone else have info on this? If so, should we be looking for discounted specials??
  7. I guess I'm a table saw guy, as I could never justify the cost of a track saw when it can't do many things (like joinery, non flat and wide shapes) that a table saw can do with ease and repeat ability. And I only use my circular saw a few times a year to rough cut out plywood sheets. But I see there's a new kid on the block. Not enough to make me spring for one, though.

  9. I have been looking for my jigsaw, it was a Bosch that I got from a pawn shop on eBay a few years ago and it looks like it has been stolen. I really liked it and it had the original owners name carved into it and came with many blades. It was a top handle one but can't find any information what model it was. I've been looking on line to have Santa to replace it. I see a JS260 for a good price, but wonder if is a good one for a hobby woodworker? I hadn't used my old one for a long time so I don't know when it disappeared. But when you need one, you have to have one. I can't find any information on if it is at the bottom of their line of jigsaws. Anyone out there have a JS260?
  10. Just ordered a Bosch 10” scms. Will be delivered Monday but, we’ll be at the Grand Canyon. DIL will be house sitting, though. Now, I gotta remove the old saw from it’s bench. The Bosch is made in China. Was disappointed about that. The old saw was a Triton. Made in Australia. Lasted through two huge deck builds, a few kitchen cabinet jobs and tons of trim. And, it was $400 cheaper than the Bosch. Hope the Bosch is worth it.
  11. According to WW Journal, the presidential overturn time for the FTC ruling. has expired and Bosch can no longer sell the their table saws in the USA. We can thank Mr. Greed (Gass) for this. The American woodworker is being deprived of the Bosch technology that would provide a safe table saw in their shop that, unlike the Saw Stop, would prevent injury without expensively damaging to their table saws and blades Bosch does plan to appeal the FTC ruling. I'm sure Mr. Gass's greed will ultimately result in more shop injuries than his Saw Stop technology will prevent.

  13. Good morning all. Was working on some fluted columns for my daughters house yesterday with a Bosch 1617EVS router. I turned the router over (plate up) and swapped out the bit. Now when I plug in the router and go to switch it on, it does nothing. I know there is power getting to the tool and can state with 100% certainty there is no way this machine should be worn out. So two things; I'm now in the market for a new router so any thoughts on a good replacement? I've been happy with Bosch in the past, but based on this router not sure I would buy another one of their products. Second, anyone have experience sending in one of these to be fixed? Is it expensive? I really don't want to spend $100 plus to get this one fixed when a new tool can be purchased for a bit more. Thanks.
