September 22, 2025Sep 22 Author Tends to make a mess of the shop floor, too Have dado for 3 drawers done... Had to add a few washers...not too worried about that blown out corner.. Called a Starter bevel..makes it easier to slide a full drawer into a case...pilot holes were drilled...counter sunk on the outside face... Have cut enough Pine to make 4 out of 5 drawer backs...test fitted one... To make sure it was the correct length... 2 more drawers need dados milled (4 dados) need one more drawer back..then cut panels for 5 drawer bottoms... Will see how the week goes along...

Ah wun... and ah two... 3 screws and a bead of glue to fix the panel in place..drawers do have a bit of toe-in towards the back...glue and screws to join the sides to the back..clamps at the front ... and ah three.. September 24, 2025Sep 24 Author Popular Post Well.....I thought about just going to the shop, today...just to take a couple pictures...since this is still sitting on my bench.. Still have 2 drawers to get assembled...so... Marking a panel for width... Square the mark across the panel..helps align the rip fence... Ran both panels through...save the cut-offs for another Project? Slid a panel into place.. Make sure it is fully into the groove in the front of the drawer...mark how much to rip off..again. set the fence, run both panels through...test fit one of them.. I think that will just have to do....Tomorrow, I can knock this apart, glue and screw it back together, and let both drawers sit a spell....will have to use a couple 24" clamps from the first 3 drawers...no biggie...I can start to clean those up, and fit them into the case... Then...we'll discuss knobs, as I will need those to open the drawers with.. 5 drawers, = 10 knobs....means I needed to buy 2 packs of these..and that dowel rod...you glue a short bit of dowel into the back of a knob...then drill a hole into the drawer front, and glue a knob in place... I do have a bag of glue brushes ready to go... harbor Freight's finest.... Stay tuned..🤠
September 24, 2025Sep 24 Author Popular Post Ok..start here.. Parts for drawer #4...I had to first drill the pilot holes into the sides, and cut the starter bevels...then...a little assembly.. then stash this away.. And repeat all the above for Drawer #5.... Moved the tablesaw out of the way...Grabbed Drawer #1 and hauled it to the vise.. Glue joints got leveled, filled and generally cleaned up...cut 2 dowel rods to fit 2 knobs..glued them together....drill 2 holes and installed the 2 knobs with glue and a c clamp.. Did not have enough Rosewood scraps tp plug the groove holes...used pine instead...can always come back with a black sharpie... Knob details Stash this drawer back in the case, repeated the above for drawer #2.. Right about here..me "Get up & go"...got up and went...let these sit a spell... Stay tuned....
September 25, 2025Sep 25 Author Popular Post Almost done... Corner glue joints are all nice and cleaned up.. all gaps closed up. Final sanding before stain will be tomorrow's tasks... Stay tuned..🤠
September 26, 2025Sep 26 Popular Post Looks like you're going to make it by month end. What cha' going to stash in it?
September 26, 2025Sep 26 Author Popular Post Pk...moved things around a bit... Dust bunnies were evicted...next... Back corner view... Front corner view... Open the drawers a bit.. Showing off the dovetails that some people like... Other front corner...close up the drawers, for now.. Just an old tool chest? This space will soon be covered in those tool cases I have sitting around....may add a shelf? Letting this sit and dry a day...then see IF it needs a second coat of stain, or the first coat of varnish...stay tuned...🤠
September 28, 2025Sep 28 Author Will try to seal up that sap wood drawer front...then see about maybe a coat of Warm Gloss Poly getting brushed on? Needed to go out and buy a few brushes, yesterday. Spent the entire day out and about..raid yard sales, going to Menard's....avoiding Darwin Award Winners.. Yo-yo was driving @ 65mph at this spot....IN TOWN, in a 35 mph zone... Got turned around on one road..because a semi truck driver had failed to yield at a stop sign, and got hit, and wrecked, idiots passing on double yellow lines, going uphill...yes, 2 such idiots at the same time, to pass one car also going up that 1/4" long hill... I almost thought I was in Boston...where a stop sign is merely a suggestion ( 8 times?) So..not much got done in the shop, yesterday... BTW, that jeep? this is where he weaved and dodged to get TO the light, missed my front bumper by about a foot...😱
September 28, 2025Sep 28 Author Popular Post A seal coat of Amber Shellac, 2# cut.. Will get rubbed down, tomorrow, and given a top coat of Warm Gloss Poly.... almost done...stay tuned...
September 29, 2025Sep 29 Popular Post Looks mighty fine Bandit. Take tomorrow off; EOM is not until Tuesday😉
September 30, 2025Sep 30 Author Popular Post Ok..last day of September... Label attached, has been moved to it's new home base...has been rubbed down with 0000 steel wool....stuff has already found a drawer to hide in.. Even have a start on hanging items on the back of the case.. which was the reason why the extra piece of 1/4" plywood was added...intend to add a bar of some sort to the area..might be a magnetic one? Ready-to-use-Rack? Milllers Falls No. 5 hand drill ( proper name is not Eggbeater) that I used to drill 4 holes into the metal label... For scale: drill bit is a 1/16" bit...pilot hole drill for the 4 brass screws that attached the label to the #2 Drawer front.. I think that will do for the Build-along part of this project... Thanks for looking in..
October 1, 2025Oct 1 Popular Post Great looking tool cabinet! What does the label say? My screen is too small and even enlarging it I can't read it. I've enjoyed this build. Great to see it completed.
