February 27, 20251 yr Author Popular Post It does get better, though...as far as trimming the ends of the leg blanks.. Needed a helping hand...a clamp to hold the mess to the Miter Gauge...not taking any more than I have to, off of this end... After the cut, rotate around and clamp it back up, with the "cut line" at 30-7/8" away from the first cut... And run it through again....then set these aside for a day. Had to make a bit of room on the bench.. Some items just needed put away, for now...as I needed to room for a heavy box... I also needed to figure out which jack plane to keep on the bench... The Ohio N0. 0-5, or..the Millers Falls No. 14.... Inside that heavy box? "Some assembly required" so... Main Stock..and a pair of "Short Rods" and that #23 bead cutter....which needed a sharpening...before it could be installed.. Needs a few more parts, doesn't it? The Sliding Stock goes here...Direct support for the quirk cutting edge....even though that one will not be doing any cutting, today, I still need to support that edge of the cutter..Next.. The fence goes on, and covers that left side of the cutter... Rods go into the top holes, and things get locked down...Needed a test track.. That should do the trick...give it a try... Seems to finish up a tad low..adjust the depth stop a tad...should be ready to go... Stay tuned..
February 27, 20251 yr Popular Post That 45 plane has served you well on many a project, coming along nicely Steve.
February 28, 20251 yr Author Popular Post Hmmm..one leg appears to be missing? Supposed to be 4 blanks here... Needed to reset a jig...and before any bead work gets done did.. I wanted a nice, smooth surface to run the #45 on...Millers Falls No.8... Then the hold down can be locked in place...And the first half of the bead can be run....then rotate... And run the #45 again...stopping every now and then to clear out the shavings... That yellow handled screwdriver can do that.... Details? Then...repeat for the other 3 legs... Handsome, ain't they.....this end will be under the top of the table...out of sight. Needed to get these done first, before I start with the tapers... Come down 5", mark a "stop" line...go to the other end.. Mark a start line...connect the 2 points.. With a steel Yard Stick/Straightedge....Bandsaw to remove MOST of the waste.. Rotate to the right, mark the next cut line, using the cut-off...and make the second slice.. Hmm..only 3 more legs to go....Intend to plane the saw marks smooth when I can get to that point,,,, Stay tuned..
February 28, 20251 yr Author Popular Post Plan right now, is to get the legs ready for the mortises.....then...work on bread board the Table's top...THEN I can measure for the aprons, and mill them...then the Mortise & Tenon stuff can begin.....plus a way to connect the base to the top.... That IS the "Plan" at the moment....
February 28, 20251 yr Popular Post No pressure, but 11 hours (14 hour Pacific) 'til March 1. Better get another load of laundry going.
February 28, 20251 yr Author Popular Post Tapers are done..got to the last leg and had to stop, and make sure the last 2 tapers will go where they are suppose to.. Once that was figured out, and no Brain Pharts.... Decided to set these aside... Needed to do one more item... "T" is for both "Taper" and to show where the Tenon's mortises will go... I was going to start planing the bandsaw marks off...but the back became "Spasm City"..means move this around... Wasn't going to happen, today....Stanley No. 6c...WW2 era.. Stay tuned..

March 1, 20251 yr Author Popular Post Tapers, all 8 of them, needed planed smooth,,,so. . Leg Vise at one end..and.. A Keeper to hold things steady.. That old Stanley No.6c is lighter than the No. 8c...but not much...I used the Millers Falls No. 8 to work on smaller areas..still.. When I say "Plane Work"....that is exactly what this is...work. At the halfway point... Stopped for a Mountain Dew Zero Break...4 done, 4 to go Making a lot of Moxxon TP, too... Got all 8 tapers done planed....have just enough "Left in the tank" to move this to the bench... This will need planed flat, ends trimmed square..and to length needed to add the Bread Board Ends.. Right now, I am a tired, sore, sweaty mess...looking like a Tonic & Gin in a TALL glass this evening... Stay tuned..

March 2, 20251 yr Author Tonic & Gin has been poured...may add a dash of Mountain Dew Zero....maybe... At the moment, the 4 legs are sitting on the tablesaw.....need to move them out of the way, Sunday....Have work for the circular saw to do... Stay tuned..
March 2, 20251 yr Popular Post If you're seeing 4 legs propped up on the table saw, perhaps you should call it a night on the Tonic-n-gin...just saying.
March 2, 20251 yr Author Popular Post Oh, they are there, alright.. Sitting out of the way, for now.... As I need the tablesaw for a while... Squaring both ends of the top...along with measuring for the Bread Board ends' 1/2" tenons...to wind up with 26" length when done... Fancy little saw... Guide is the same that I use as the Tablesaw's Rip Fence....later, it with be guiding a router.... Stay tuned..

March 3, 20251 yr Author Popular Post Did not need a guide, when the router bit provides it's own.. Older Craftsman 2hp Router, with a 1/2" Harbor Freight rebate bit one pass per face of each tongue...mill, flip, mill, rotate, mill, flip, mill, done... Had to go back and edit this post...something I should NOT have needed to do.... Edited March 3, 20251 yr by steven newman site issues with loading photos
