Cal Posted November 29, 2022 Report Posted November 29, 2022 I am very happy with TPW, but may be too close to the trees to see the forrest. I've suggested the website several times to folks I think would be interested, but so far none have shown up. The only one that has given me any feedback has been my son who told me the site was just too cumbersome and not easy to navigate or find what he wanted to find. That was on a phone call and I've never thought to follow up with him in person. If I think about it, I will ask for more info when he visits over the holiday. I guess the broader question might be - is this site more for information or for fellowship? For me personally, it's the fellowship as I have my morning coffee with a great bunch of friends, most of whom I haven't met. My son may have come looking for info and didn't want to glean through 300 messages on 70 different threads to find it, but I will try to remember to ask. As further evidence that I may be too close, I very seldom have any issues or suggestions. But when about who has, @Woodman comes to mind. Jim is relatively new, and he has had a good many suggestions. Most of which I have no idea what the heck he's talking about, but he still brings a lot of suggestions to improve the site for us. And, related to your question - I spent a fair amount of time on a bunch of different websites this past week doing the Black Friday/Cyber Monday thing. Some of those sites, IMHO, were just plain awful for me as a user/customer. I know the company spent good money for it, doubtless the folks running and designing the online store thinks it's great, but I came away shaking my head hoping I would never have to go back! Woodman Posted November 29, 2022 Report Posted November 29, 2022 (edited) I'd not be here if I didn't want to be here. Found the place entirely by accident. Punched in a few search terms and TPW was No. 1 on the hit parade. In all fairness, the previous forum was helpful in my writing; often articles were 'tested' in part, for the blog, and as a BONUS, THERE WAS UNLIMITED EDITING. But hey, I'm good with it. In fact, I find I can make a few bucks here with the editing function. Edited November 29, 2022 by Woodman BUY TEXAS PETE'S HOT SAUCE TODAY !!! HARO50, Cal and Grandpadave52 1 1 1 Quote
Popular Post Grandpadave52 Posted November 29, 2022 Popular Post Report Posted November 29, 2022 Couldn't be happier being accepted as a member here. Love the family friendly atmosphere, the enormous amount of knowledge and experience always freely exchanged. I've met so many great people here; some in person, others over the phone, through email or PM's. Without TPW, this would never have happened. All of this is just a bonus however to the main mission here. Thanks John, Ron and our forum hosts for all the time you invest to make The Patriot Woodworker a great place to call home! Popular Post BillyJack Posted November 29, 2022 Popular Post Report Posted November 29, 2022 It’s still a simple forum..This is good. I’ve watched Woodnet, Sawmillcreek and woodworkingtalk and Lumberjacks become pretty rude forums. Woodtalk and Patriot seem to keep it simple. Gunny, Grandpadave52, HARO50 and 2 others 5 Quote

Cal Posted December 6, 2022 Report Posted December 6, 2022 John, one feature that we lost a couple few "improvements" back that I really miss: When I first come onto the site I hit the Forum button to get the latest posts, they are shown on the right of my screen. I most always start there and look at each topic and the last replies since my previous visit. All well and good until the thread goes into multiple pages. It used to be that when you clicked on the topic it took you to the last post - that was really good (in my book). Now when we click on it, it takes us to the beginning of the topic and from there I can go to the last page, and then sometimes back up to the previous page. If I happen to see that there are 40-50+ responses I sometimes just skip over it and then catch it when I go to unread posts. In unread posts I can click on the last reply. It is just extra steps that didn't use to be... lew and Grandpadave52 2 Quote

To the right of the topic is the number of replies so far and the avatar of the last poster and the date of the last post. I click on the date and it takes me to that last post.
