On This Day in Woodworking History...

...the Midwest (Indiana & Ohio) Chapter of TPW gathered for its summer conference gab-fest graciously hosted by @Fred W. Hargis Jrand his wife Marie in the peaceful suburbs of Wapakoneta, OH.

Events of the day were captured by our own resident woodworker, site admin and quite skilled photographer, @Ron Dudelston. Yes there were donuts and coffee consumed followed by pastries furnished by @DuckSoup & wife Patti then complemented with fried chicken and choice of salads.

If the food wasn't enough to drool over, take a look at Fred's almost newly completed (at the time) spacious, well equipped, and lighted shop. While he didn't actually complete an entire project build that day:lol:, we all enjoyed seeing @steven newman aka Bandit, demonstrate the versatility of his fully cordless, classic #45 Stanley plane.

Did I mention there were plenty of donuts?:P We also received attendance door prizes from not only our site sponsors but also from our own skilled woodturner @HandyDan. Although Dan was unable to attend, his presence and skills were there in spirit.

Anyways, you can read all about it from the link below. Sadly, we've lost one member who was in attendance with us that day.

In memory of @IrishWoodCarver...Bob was quite an accomplished and talented woodworker and woodcarver but he was a far greater man to know. Continued prayers to LouAnn and family.

It was a real delight to see those shillelaghs that Bob carved (hence his handle Irishwoodcarver), truly a work of art. RIP Bob. It was a fun day (for me) and wonderful to meet so many folks.

It is rare in life to meet, for the first time, a group of people from different parts of the country and you feel like you have known them for a long time. Don't know where the time went but the numbers don't lie.

Even better when you meet those folks and one of them has a car full of homemade cookies (and some coffee)!

Bump...6 years ago on 8/25/24. Slipped past me again, then I seemed to become "selfishly" preoccupied of recent.:P

Lots has happened for me since then including now 2 unexpected surgeries. The donuts, Patti's treats, the lunch and coffee were still good.;)

The day making new lifelong friendships was even better. Plus, I crossed off my "bucket list" a trip to Wapakoneta, OH.

Thanks again, Fred and Marie!!

RIP Bob, aka @IrishWoodCarver

It was a great day, thoroughly enjoyed it. Meeting Bob and Louann was a real treat, even if he did win the EZ wood tool I wanted. Gawd, has it been 6 years??????
