Red lines are how much room I'll have.  Need a chest of some sort to place all of this "stuff" in...and maybe dress up the area?

 

Wondering IF 22 bdft will be enough..

Thinking about taking the 4 longer planks (5' long) and gluing up 2 panels....to make a front and back , and 2 ends....then the rest for the frames...will have to work around a couple live edges, too.   Intend to build the "box" first, then build a lid to fit...may need a couple more planks?

 

A Hobbit sized Tool Chest?  At least enough to hold all that "stuff" on the floor...

Area I have to work with...Length can be around 32"....height is 17"...with lid.   front to back works out to be around 16"

 

Frame & Panel.....Flat faced panels, or...Raised Panels..hmmm...we'll see..

Each are 59"~ long...Bad when it makes a Stanley No. 8c look tiny..

Plane is 24" long.  Maple flavoured shavings, anyone?

Got 2 edges to match up, jointed them, spread some glue..

Yep, that one pipe clamp is sitting on the floor.   Cauls where needed..clamp the center, then work towards each end...

 

Let this sit a day, or two...

 

Might see how this lines up...and see about the other 2 long planks...might be able to use two of the shorter planks?  Might get both the front and back out of this first panel?   Might just cut one plank....to make the blank for the 2 ends?

Every night is Saturday night and  every day is Sunday.  The only way I can tell what day it is is by checking my week's pill container.  

Assuming Dungeon Creek stays in its banks and knowing there's a chance 2 more planks may be required, assuming normal laundry cycles,, plus factoring in the moon phases...late June 17 or wee morning hours June 18.

Hmmm...well, clamps came off, today...and I worked for about 1 hour...1530 hrs to 1630hrs....

Wanted one edge trued up, to make lay outs easier...so..

Ran the Cordless jointer a bit, until one strip was seen...the full length.  Then needed the ends squared up, too..

Then lay out for 4 panels.....59" divided  by 4 =?   14-3/4"?

Used a large square against that trued edge..

And turned the end of my bench into a "Saw Bench"

Made a few cuts...

Other saw has a bit less set, straightened out one cut that wanted to bind up ( always one, it seems)

Then set up the rip fence to 10-3/4" width...and buzz the live edges off...as the boards were all tapered..now they are all the same width...

Cleaning up glue squeeze outs..Made a bit of a mess, today...

Ya think?

 

Maybe tomorrow, I can figure out what sizes I need for the stile and rails for the sides...and see what size panels I'll need on the ends..

End panels are in the clamps, for now..

And...

This one is now sitting on the tablesaw, for now....Set up a jig...notched end..

To hold a rail steady, and on edge....locked down by others..

The one on the end pivots to tighten down the jig.   Long rails..need a jointed edge...

Stanley No. 8c...as there was a bit of rough sawn to this edge...

Not any more...then set up the Stanley No. 45...to plough a 1/4" by 1/4" groove, centered in the edge

And, set up a combo square..

To make sure it IS 1/4" deep.    Groove is to house the raised panels.

 

How many passes to get 1/4" deep?

Oh....about that many.   Maple Flavoured Noodles, anyone?

 

Plan is to run ALL the grooves needed....Mortise and tenon work in order to dry fit the frames....then fit and raised the 6 panels to fit into the frames...

 

Rails get one groove....the dividers will get 2.    Stiles?   Front and back stiles get 2 different kinds of grooves.....stiles for the ends will get one of these 1/4" grooves, AND a 3/16" x 1/4" tongue...

 

Should be a "FUN" week?

I think I may have overshot the pool date!

Total shoptime today ( too bleeding hot) was 45 minutes...

Long rails are now grooved...too many shavings..

Even more on the floor...

Then reset the jig to hold a Stile..

At 16" long, they are a bit too short for the #8c jointer..so..

We have ways.....then, mill a groove...

About here, I called it a day...always try again, tomorrow...

Spent one hour IN the sweat-box/shop...even with the fan set on high, and blowing right on me...

The 4 long rails were already done...stiles for the front and back are grooved...stiles for the ends are grooved...and the 2 dividers, with their 2 grooves...

Takes almost 30 passes to get a groove milled ( Cardio is done, for today) plus jointing the edges before the groove gets done...

Yes, I do size the plane to the size of the work...reset the jig a few times...

About every 10 passes, or so, I have to add a spot of candle wax in the groove....makes the plane slide better..

 

 

Next trip to the shop...need to clear off this mess..

As I still need to mill Rails for the 2 ends of the chest..

They are a little rough, right now...

 

Been making quite a mess, lately...

Almost as much ON the floor....softer to walk on than concrete?  With a bit of "CRUNCH" going on..

 

Once the last 4 rails are milled and grooved...I can change the Stanley 45 into both a Tongue and a Groove "Match Plane"   except it will use a 3/16" wide T&G  cutters....instead of the 1/4" cutter..

 

That will do for today....83 degrees outside the windows, almost that IN the basement shop...
