What a great find Larry. Cant imagine anyone just tossing that out but good on you to rescue it. Looking forward to seeing this one through. I'll drag mine out and get some pictures. It belonged to my grandparents...circa 1930. I haven't refurbished it yet.

Yep, just driving down to grocery store and :BugEyeSmiley: what have we here?

:ChinScratch: Don't think I'll do a full "restore" I kind of like the patina.

It may have sat on the floor in a basement that had a slight flood. Found that the switch had been submerged at some point. The bottom plate is rather rusted out but I found a slightly different replacement from a similar model that will fit. Will of course have to do a rewire so I'm waiting on replacement original style cloth covered wire. :Tapping:

Don't feel bad Gramps, I'm also finally getting back to that old Emerson fan I started doing a few years back.

played lumberjack this morning.

chopped down a tree

had some lunch

but no shopping or pressing wild flowers.

had a nasty Russian olive in back, that was overhanging the greenhouse.  time to die tree.  wanted to fall to the east, but the lean ended up having it fall to the west, just missing the greenhouse.  chopped it up, set aside the bigger chunks for firewood (neighbor gets that), the brush is just pile up nearby, and that's fine.  on 15 acres, i'm not messing with it any more for now.

i'm pooped.

maybe time to press some wild flowers (but they aren't in season yet)

1 Peter 1:24-25 -

24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

I've probably had mine that long or longer. Mom gave it to me a good while before she became ill, then passed. Actually I think mine is an Emerson vs GE. It doesn't have the brass blades like your recent find. Those are more rare. Like you, I won't do a full restore; will just clean and wax original finish, try to polish the guard wires and clean the blade is about all.

i refuse to join any organization that would accept me as a member.....  it's quite clear that their membership standards are too lenient.

SWMBO has me cutting a stand of Sumac. It's next to her garden and blocking the afternoon sunlight. Of course it's next to, and overhanging her Haskap Berries bushes and she will fail to see the humor if I drop a Sumac on one.

There are about a hundred Sumacs in this stand and it's the last 20 that are over hanging. It will be a slow go tomorrow trying to pull them away with a rope before cutting them.

Looks like I'll end up with a lot of fast burning fire wood, but no splitting.

Four plant boxes completed. First one took Phyl and, I four hours to build. But, we soon got our rhythm and, the next three took only an hour and a half each. Used up the rest of our pallet wood and lots of scrap tubafores. That became the floors and, inner framing. The only purchase was the cedar for the cladding and legs. We have approximatly $15 in each box. That was for the cedar and screws. They each measure 20"X20"X20". With a good sized pot of dirt and flowers, each one should serve it's purpose of providing an attachment point for the roll up patio shades that we installed last Wednesday. We'll have two coats of sealer on and, dry by next Wednesday. Then, we'll have some pictures to post.

Took a picture for @steven newman and all after reading he bought 1/4" plywood for drawer bottoms. This is what I harvest from liqueur stores. The real thin pieces are masonite within veneer, and the others are mostly solid 5/32" (metric, likely, as the wine was Italian). Sometime crate bottoms are thinner solid T&G as well. The months leading up to holidays may yield the most wood. I stop into one particular location once a month and the wine manager hands me a pile. Whole crates sometimes, lids, etc.

I am back up and posting!  A couple weeks ago one of my keyboard keys stopped working.  While I was man handling said keyboard and blowing a can of air around it to "clean" it I must have hit the magic combination, about 1/3 of the keys wouldn't respond   This was a wireless Apple keyboard.  I fiddled and fooled around with it for a few days before giving in and ordering a new refurbished keyboard.  It came, I hooked it up, and the same key strokes did not register/or responded with different commands... A search of the intertubes quickly showed me that lots of people had/have this same problem with the same group of keys not responding.  The Apple fix for some was a simple enough process to try, but of course, I fell into the group where that suggested fix didn't work.  Yesterday I visited a couple of thrift shops and picked up a used Windows keyboard (wired) that is working just fine for now.  I have lost the functionality of a couple Mac specific keys, and I will try to find a work around when I need them.  For now, I can post up something besides an emoji :D

Cal, you can get new Mac keyboard clones over at Amazon for as little as $25, pretty good price when compared to OEM ones. I've had problem with the Mac wireless keyboards as well, and switched over to the wired models.

they are nasty.  produce fruit the birds like, but the branches are full of very sharp spikes.  ouch.  and the trunks produce lots of suckers, so they are ugly too if not trimmed.  this one, based on counting rings, was about 17 years old, and was about 35 feet tall, about a foot in diameter at the base.  it's kind of a dark wood.

Just had another zoom call with MIL.  Alive and well, still screaming about Putin and his minions.  Yup, she's good.  :throbbinghead:

On the plus side the berries have medicinal properties.
