Kicked Murphy out of the shop..had work to do...at about..2200 hrs..went to check on the glue-up....wound up taking the clamps off, and then fitting the lid to the box...

Close as I can get it...

Should do the trick?:ChinScratch:

Next, lay out for the hinges..

Hmm, what cut line?   Anyway, Sellers does this, to set out where the hinges will go..:OldManSmiley:

Marks across both pieces..just one line...:OldManSmiley:

Set the box aside, for now...first chops..

Drill the pilot holes, wax the threads ( you'll need it) and:ph34r:

1st hinge is installed..repeat for the other hinge..

43368857_Episode4A2ndhinge.JPG.80ba3474734a2538d3b977cd0b1d78c1.JPG

Then set the lid aside, for now...have something else to do.:SaluteandRun:

.1335642295_Episode4AOldCarver.JPG.03e04671331ad0ec86534ad0deec973e.JPG

Keep things level across the end of the bench...cheated, this time....instead of chopping the mortises, dovetail saw made the end cuts, then a chisel peeled off the waste...Close the lid to check the fit..:ChinScratch:

That will do, for today....:GoodNight:

Stay tuned..:cowboy:

Really nice Steven.  I'm wondering what sort of keepsakes will be in the box, for the spaces are pretty narrow with the partition in place.

When it comes to brass screws - if I have the same size steel screw available I will use it to make the threads for the brass.  An extra couple steps, but worth it.

Your little box ought to really shine with the amber shellac on it

Ok..after watching Episode #5 ( last of the series :()  and NOT liking the feet Paul made...we have ways..

1088162051_Episode5pegfeetdrill.JPG.4f3957d02a449474ce489a3539cb7daa.JPG

Grind some Shaker Mini Pegs to a rounded shape...cut them at that red line.   Like the cordless drill?  Bit is a #3, I think...Drill 4 holes, without going all the ways through...dab of glue..:ChinScratch:

1770850449_Episode5feetgluedup.JPG.adc6084ba9f49a6c8bd8237ea84a2e79.JPG

And we have 4 feet.   Had to go and locate that dang Church Key...was trying to hide with the varnish cans..:ArguingSmileys:

327926096_Episode5ChurchKey.JPG.1eaf2f8c8b01f5445fcd5946027c8d52.JPG

That is about the best way to open a can. :OldManSmiley:  Divider was out of the box, anyway, so..:MachineGun:

621770339_Episode5firstcoatdivider.JPG.19dd3f1b81a39c7680ce710f3e15f501.JPG

It was first.  Sitting on edge on the Spares Box...may research actually what the drill is...

Then the insides of the box got their first coat....then all of the outside..B)

How about a look at the end?

2057909858_Episode5firstcoatendview.JPG.8b7211f277a9fe95cad106bf09db7c5e.JPG

Letting the glue and this first coat dry a while...seems to be about 2-3 more coats?  Sanding between each.

Paul installed a Leather lining to the bottom of his box...I don't have any to use...we'll see.   Still need to add a chain between the box and the lid....

Almost done...May add a felt layer to the top edges of the box, to cushion the lid when it closes...?:WonderScratch:

Stay tuned,,:cowboy:

+1...maybe a couple. IIRC, many years ago, Sherwin-Williams used to give them away with gallon can purchase???

Maybe an alternate??? Wally-World sells sheets of felt (maybe 8x10???) in their Craft Departments. Some stores carry several different colors.

Edit add...BTW, very nicely done.:Praise:

Have another version of a Church Key....except it has a Blatz Logo on it...Milwaukee's Favorite Premium Beer...made by Vaughn, USA  #62  One end lifts the lid of off bottles, other end pokes a triangular hole into the top of a beer can...don't forget the smaller vent hole....

Those are handy for digging dried glue out of corners.

Dad & I would grind the vee end a bit and use them to widen cracks in plaster. Gave a small vee shaped trench to overfill with spackle compound. We used a spray bottle with water to dampen, damp sponge to wipe out dust then fill, sand,, paint. Worked great, easy to control, well as long as one didn't overuse the round end removing bottle caps.

Ok...coat #2 has dried, and been rubbed down with 0000 steel wool.   Used the Old Monarch Bench vise..

1122437820_Benchvise-vise.JPG.01571b212885ab58d30d8725f008c06d.JPG

To flatten the leaves on a pair of hinges...then clamped the box up, to switch out the gappy ones..

1498076092_SellersProjectchangingthehinges.JPG.145ac4dd004d68cf9873d6addd36bcae.JPG

Then check the back for gaps...

397549050_SellersProjectnogapback.JPG.95114f1345a182dcffc3dfd1d5a388a2.JPG

Much better.  Leveled the Mini-Bun feet, on a sheet of sand paper..

791457062_SellersProjectMini-bunfeet.JPG.0e9fcabdd06a0a69974d81dfe332e64b.JPG

Went back over them with a dab of shellac.  Added a black chain to keep the lid from tilting too far back..

293796138_SellersProjectChainedLid.JPG.dd4fc25663eec14df15c55ef5f4deea5.JPG

Brass screws to hold it.  May come back at a later date, and line the insides with felt?

Close the lid...

1252060137_SellersProjectclosethelid.JPG.03e66616ba80f764eb9575fdd5eaeeda.JPG

Wipe it down one more time...check the ends for gaps..

Then call this little box....Done!
